I used to play many of Billie's songs on the piano. But, no matter how many hours I practiced, I could never play the intro to this tune note for note. There's good, as I was....then there's virtuosity, as was Billie. Phenomenal talent.

I don’t think so. I remember an tv interview with the Austrian broadcast while BJ was in Vienna to take lessons with some classical Piano players, maybe 10-15 years ago (B. Joel’s father lived in Austria). He said at least something like that highly trained classical players are another class (not: better) of players. And i think that he’s uniqueness lies not in the piano playing but rather in the genius combination of playing, writing/compose melodies which are like a brand sign plus highly poetic lyrics. You can find maybe a little more people in the world who are really good in one of those „things“, but people who are so far up in all of those things like Mr. Joel...? I don’t think so. Just my little opinion.

Liberty De Vito on drums - a FAR KEN legend. Saw Billy Joel at Dallas Brooks Hall in Melbourne back in the 2nd half of the 70's when he only had Piano Man and Turnstiles out. De Vito was given an ear splitting standing ovation. Best concert I have seen and I've seen a few - even when I wasn't an Angry Young Man.

There is no “best ever,” just a pantheon of the best. Within that, it’s a matter of personal preference. Billy Joel is definitely in it. So are Paul Simon, Stephen Sondheim, Bob Dylan, and probably a few others. If you include duos, King & Goffin and Rodgers & Hammerstein would be there as well.

When I saw this performance for the first time on "Laser Disc' that my uncle owned, I was a 4-year-old Japanese girl and profoundly astonished by his play. It was as shocking as watching Michael Jackson's "Thriller". That lead me to start learning piano at the age of 5 and got me interested in another side of the world, the United States, and its language. After 40 years of that, now I'm a wife of American citizen and loves listening to wide variety of music, of course including Billy Joel, to this day.
