Do you have to calibrate the IMU after the flight? And do you have to calibrate the drone everytime before you start the flight? And when you are calibrating, does it have to be ON, or should it be OFF (the drone)?

Billy, I've literally never actually removed the propellers and leaned the aircraft sideways...oops....Would this method work the same on the Mavic? It's kinda oddly shaped. I'm SO glad I actually saw that you need to lean the aircraft. I just thought the aircraft was leaning equipment internally from the diagram. I need to get my butt home and IMU !!!!!!!!!! Thanks man !!!

Great info. I have done this, but the gimbal makes a fair amount of noise at times doing this, and when doing 2nd part of compass calibration (drone on its side). I also get a notice that the gimbal has exceeded it range too. Is that normal? Or are her issues that may require service?

No, shouldn't hurt the gimbal at all unless you have it sitting there over night on its side, but thats just not taking good care of it. its only in that position for a couple of seconds so there is no need to worry.

Can an IMU calibration issue case intermittent GPS Loss and auto switch to atti mode? If not any idea what can cause this issue? My P3S has never lost GPS in over 2 years of use.

I am going to do all the calibrations manually tonight when I get home from work. The issue that seems to go way back from the beginning is incorrect reporting of Altitudes. I can start off at the home point hovering at the four foot starting point but GO shows 16 feet. Fly up to 50 feet do a circle come back to the home point and still the same 16 feet when it at 4 feet. This is my first drone and I have only had it for a week. Did not know to do a IMU calibration out of the box. Anything else the manual does not indicate that should be done? Thanks to all responders.

Hi there, when you got to step 5 of the IMU, the DJI graphic seems to indicate that the drone should have been turned 180 deg and THEN tilted onto the battery. At least that is what I am understanding. However in your video you are just tilting it backwards. I wish DJI would make their instructions more clear since I find this CHANGE in their graphics a little confusing specially when I come across your video which should the LOGICAL next sequence. What are your thoughts? Also, I am unable to calibrate the compass unless I get an error.

I was wondering the same thing.... Seems like a few of the Videos are doing the same thing.... The screen shows the opposite of what that step is being shown on the how to videos....

Okay so on my P4P at the top bar mine says Backward facing obstacle avoidance may not work it needs to be calibrated. It then tells me to draw a square in front of my body to calibrate it. Would this fix that or how do I go about fixing it? Can't seem to find anything. Love your videos and will defiantly be hitting that subscribe button!

I didn't know the P4Pro had so much more complicate IMU calibration. I just did a video on IMU calibration for the P4.

When try to calibrate my IMU on my Phantom 4 it takes forever and usually stops at 2/6 for ages and never seems to go any further than that it has now been on for 15 minutes and still at 2/6

I just bought the new Phantom 4 Advanced. Could you do an out of the box start up??? from the box to the sky? I can't figure it out and it's pissing me off. I want to fly this damn thing already!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!

I got a Phantom 4 Advanced + in Oct of 17 was not able to mess with it till Feb 2018 and I fond out the RC would not link with the drone till I downloaded software and firmware, one was for the controller and the the other for the drone. I had to do the download after midnight and before 5am because of slow internet connection. RC and drone linked together and I was able to fly pictures were awesome. I think it was very disgusting that the drone would not work out of the box I don't expect to buy other things and have to start downloading software before I can use it.

You do NOT need to do an IMU calibration after unboxing for first time. Distance and travel has nothing to do with the IMU. The only thing that is affected by distance and travel is the compass. You only do IMU calibration if the app/drone tells you to do it.

wow it did matter on the early firmwares but it would not complete the cal. nice to know that its mot importamt, same as the compass call always had to be anti clockwise but now it can be clockwase also
