In my experience, don't use the clipy belt (the name escapes me) with Ro, as if it pulls on the open weave of ro it can make holes, sometimes you can massage it out but not always.
@BillyMatsunaga5 жыл бұрын
Avery George oh, really? I don’t have any of those problems. My ro juban is in perfect condition. I usually don’t recommend any items that could hurt silk. I wonder what happened to your juban?
@averygeorge41925 жыл бұрын
@@BillyMatsunaga It was the first time I wore a full ro set and I just dressed how I normally did (I just use the clipy belt and not a date-jime for the naga-juban) and after a full day of walking around Kyoto, I get back to my hotel and start taking everything off, I get to the juban and I discover small holes from the plastic teeth of the belt. To be honest, I did freak out at first becuse it was brand new (to me, got it at a second hand shop) but I was able to massage most of it out. This is only my experience though and never heard of it happening to anyone else.

OMG! Your technique is so clean and perfect. My way to put the nagajuban on it so messy. Also I have problems with the wide of my hips, every juban is far too small. I added a piece of fabric to widen it, but when I wear it, it make it more complicated and messier. Do have some tips to manage different body types? And, if you are interested in, I want to know your teacher's and your opinion in collar shapes for formality and age. I only follow my aesthetics, skills and mood... I love your videos, not only I learn a lot, but also are very pleasant to watch.

Kimono Fashion that’s because I’m a licensed kimono teacher. Have to show it to my students, eh? 😂 I’ve never had troubles with the nagajuban and wider hips, because you close it on your waist. A big bust can be a big problem. I recommend wearing a corset without any other padding. The collar should be even more V-neck the older you get. Formal kimono shows 3cm of the haneri. Casual kimono only 1cm. Formal kimono should show more back collar. But I prefer wearing all kimono like formal kimono so I do the same for all 🙈 and thank you so much for your kind words ❤️

Of course for the video you have to cover up, but is anything else worn normally underneath the nagajuban? Is it just on top of bare skin? What about for colder weather? Any additional undergarments then? Thank you so much! I just recently discovered your videos and listening to you speak is just so wonderful!
@swagmasternim28073 жыл бұрын
there's one/two piece of clothes called Juban (usually made of sweat-soaking material such as cotton to prevent frequent washing of the nagajuban and kimono which usually made of silk/polyester blend). The last time I went to Japan in winter and tried kimono on, it's already warm enough (at least for 3 degree Celsius) due to how many layer is in a kimono. I did put an extra layer of low-back thermal underwear before the Juban in case I couldn't hold it. The rental place added a fur shawl to cover my neck and gave me a heating pad for my hand. I traveled for 9 hours in a kimono, zori, & tabi (without extra socks) and it's durable.

Hi! Your video is very helpful! But I have a question, I noticed your nagajuban is very colourful, and I would have definitely mistaken it for a yukata. Can I know how to tell the difference between a yukata and a really colourful juban, especially when thrifting? If I were to mistakenly wear a really colourful juban as a yukata, would others be able to tell? Thank you so much 💖
@Maalork Жыл бұрын
I'm not an author of this channel, so I'm sorry for answering here, but I just wanted to help somehow... There is the main difference between yukata and nagajuban: with the same width of the sleeves yukata will be MUCH longer, it's hem will be surely laying on the floor when you put it on. Nagajuban will end above your ankles. A second difference will be fabric: yukata's fabric will be a cotton, and it'll be thicker, than fabric of a nagajuban. A third difference will be with flaps: yukata have additional long pieces of cloth (rectangles with a pointed top, like a boxcutter in shape) attached to the flaps on the both sides to make them wider than back side. On the nagajuban, there will be no such things or they will be very thin, not more than 5 cm.

Hope this isn't a silly question, but I was wondering what did Japanese people throughout history wear underneath the Nagajuban? Japanese women didn't have something like a bra or a corset, did they?
@BillyMatsunaga5 жыл бұрын
Karen Beilharz hey! This is not a silly question at all. In history “juban” was the undergarment that was worn under all the layers. But it didn’t show up like today. (There are written sources from 719 that juban existed.) at that time juban looked like what we today call a “Han juban” which means it’s just covering the upper body. the long juban (nagajuban) came up during the Edo period and was worn by women for “haregi” (formal kimono). That is what I know so far. But I’ve noticed I need to do more research on what kind of fabric it was actually made of and how far juban was worn throughout the different social classes. But still, I hope this was a little enlightening 😊 when speaking about corsets it bras: when you have worn a kimono before I’m sure you noticed that the obi already is pretty supportive 😉 in history obi were worn lower and they weren’t supportive in any way. That’s for sure.

I know this is a year later lol, but if you’re still interested, since silk is the most common fabric (aside from polyester) you can just steam it with a steamer! But polyester is easier to take care of.
@sweeper4422 жыл бұрын
She does say in another video that getting the silk wet (should there be droplets) is an issue on kimono, but for something that won’t be seen for the most part and has a light color (so no bleeding) it should be fine. Hope this helps!

@BillyMatsunaga4 жыл бұрын
Carina Hack hihi!

But when I searched for Nagajubans online, they seem to be ridiculously expensive considering some of them are made out of “costume fabric” as they state on the websites. I wanted to sow one myself but I can’t find any suitable patterns for it. Do you sow it the same way as a yukata or is the pattern different? Or if anyone would be able to direct me to an available sewing pattern online, I’d be really grateful ❤
