This is a minor thing to gripe about, but Starscourge Radahn is absolutely not nerfed compared to launch. In an early patch they fixed his hitboxes and reduced his HP, but swiftly reverted the HP change (within a couple days, I believe). Literally the only difference between current Radahn and launch Radahn is that his hitboxes are better. Crazy how many people claim with confidence that Radahn is so much easier now or they pride themselves on beat "pre-nerf Radahn". That's the power of the placebo effect for ya.
@jakebush888615 күн бұрын
Radahn was nerfed significantly. There are some drastic changes that I have never seen anyone mention before. First there is the arrow he shoots at you when you enter his arena (before the nerf it was nearly a hit scan attack that one shot you, meaning you had to dodge it or the fight was already over. Furthermore that arrow attack prevented you from using Torrent since you could not dodge the arrow while riding Torrent due to the hitscan nature of the attack. This made getting to the top of the hill to actually start the fight a lengthy process in which you could easily die. The second thing I noticed was the meteor attack where the meteors float above his head (I think) had their hitboxes fixed and they used to one shot you so the best way to dodge it was to have the meteors collide with the sand dunes.

I would defend Radabeast. This is THE end game fight (story-wise). I believe it is intended to have an epic, stately and somewhat subdued tone and feel to it. Beast is this powerful, otherworldly creature and fighting it is partly a dance where it plays with you as you invade its den. You are at a disadvantage and should be. The fight should not be a manic sprint and button mashing affair. It should have gravitas and force you to move at *its* preferred tempo, not yours. The magic attacks can seem very strong, until you realize they are all holy based and can be easily countered with a variety of easily-obtained holy defense buffs and armor. The "running about" can be a bit annoying. But these days you have your horse for that. And if you watch many fights objectively, beast will total withdraw ~ 3 times on average.. which isn't really much if you're doing some decent damage. Stop whining and enjoy the last dance, the beautiful design, the lovely music.

Malenia is the best boss From ever made. I do 100% agree Waterfowl is not made for fair learning and mastering. But WF also can't stop you if you master everything else. She has devastating moves and abilities, sure, but these are balanced by profound vulnerabilities and weaknesses: slow, passive phase 1 where you can stop, heal, buff, have a nap.. almost any time. Try that vs Maliketh or Hoarah. Every move in P1 is massively telegraphed, including the grab. Most of them have massive windows to punish. She is vulnerable to frost, fire, and bleed. She has low poise and can be parried. Many strength builds can stunlock her into oblivion. In phase 2, she gifts you Scarlet Aeonia, perhaps the easiest boss aoe to dodge in the entire game that once again gives you ample time to heal, buff, snooze... or hit her at range with whatever you like as she slowly gets up. Again, half her moves are super duper telegraphed with huge punish windows. Again, low poise and can be poise-broken and staggered easily. We should also keep her difficulty in context: She's an optional hidden boss. Nobody has to fight her, ever. Consort Radahn is mandatory to complete the DLC. Malenia literally only exists for those who actively seek the highest of challenges, and anyone esle can leave the fight and lose nothing by doing so... other than the most amazing sense of satisfaction bestowed by an boss From Soft ever created.

hi! so ER is my first fromsoft game, and it was quite an experience. Malenia, goddess of Cheating, is my personal favorite boss PRECISELY because of her being a huge cheater. I sat there for hours, just... learning her fight, cursing, slapping my knee on every death, gaming leaning forwards... and I relished in this struggle. it was so much fun, and I view her as a dear sparring partner nowadays. I learned when she cheats and hyperarmors, when I can smack her out of her attack, when I can get a charged heavy in, I parried her on one of my runs as well, because it's just so adrenaline inducing. I always feel a bit empty whenever I defeat Malenia, because the struggle of her fight is unforgettable. Maliketh is a strange case. I feel like a lot of fights against him end very quickly - either with his death or yours. I am still not confident in understanding his attacks at all, because I'm so used to bursting him down. his Beast Clergyman phase is especially strange, I absolutely do not understand it. I will absolutely have to on my rl1 run though. Mohg is incredible. on my first playthrough, I was panicking and running around his palace like a little bitch, pushing random buttons and eventually winning somehow, but I gave him another shot on an underleveled character, and his fight *clicked* with me. his heavy hits are incredibly satisfying to dodge, and staying close to him all the time in the second phase allowed me to actually dodge his attacks properly. it felt really damn good. much love for the Lord of Blood. on an unrelated note, I learned Morgott the same way as well, and I was left in awe of his moveset. he's so incredibly complex, I feel like he still has ways to suprise me on my future playthroughs. he's also the most difficult boss to parry IMO. Morgott is also my favorite character in the game, I adore him with my whole heart, and killing him just made me feel... empty. thank you for the great vid! I hope I can participate in a community ranking if you're planning another one in the future! be sure that I cab yap for a LOOONG while.
@satekeeper16 күн бұрын
Why do you think hyperarmor is "cheating"? This is something literally every later-game boss in ER and its DLC do. Go ahead and try staggering Radahn, Maliketh, or Hoarah out of their major attacks, let me know how that goes. This is just part of basic FS boss design and has been forever.
@АнастасияВасева-в6ч13 күн бұрын
Hello! You're totally right. It's my bad, I haven't made in clear in my comment what I meant. What I was referring to are some strange cases I had with Malenia when she was acting unpredictable. Like, sometimes I was 100% sure she should get stance broken and open for a riposte from a charged heavy, but she is in the middle of an attack animation and she isn't getting staggered. Pretty sure that is a confirmed bug, but it could be a feature as well. Also, I played a spellblade once and used carian piercer on Malenia, and fully charging this spell knocks her on her ass. Except when it doesn't? I think she gets immunity from knockdown for a short time when you knock her down often. And she wasn't in an attack animation, too, she was in her neutral state. These things make her behavior hard to read sometimes, but I don't think it's bad; again, I love this boss fight.
@satekeeper13 күн бұрын
@ I see what you mean. And there are hidden meters and mechanisms.. some of those we know about like the invisiv bleed build-up, or how after getting a status effect like poison, rot, bleed etc the boss has higher resist. I still think Malenia isn't really different in this way to other bosses- you're just assuming you can smack her around with abandon.. which you couldn't even think of doing against most bosses. If anything, this makes her an easier boss.. very easy to stagger, you can parry her, and break her poise relatively easily. My advice is to never assume she will stagger or be poise broken, ever. In both phases, she leaves wide open windows of attack that are 100% safe every single time. Like her forward lunging stab, or the combo where she jets up high, then slams down.. she's totally vulnerable after both 100% of the time. From Soft boss fighting 101: "Don't get greedy". =D

After just having beat Bloodborne for the first time and doing the secret boss encounter for Moon Presence, I wonder why they didn’t do the same with Elden Beast. Have Radagon be the final fight, but if you get all the pieces from the Shardbearers, you get to fight the optional God that finds you a threat for gathering all of them. There isn’t even any in game reward or incentive from what I gather for getting all the shards since only 2 are really required

I've got a few things to say on what my biggest trials in Elden Ring were. My first time going through the game, I was not especially troubled by too many of the bosses, but my three hardest ended up being Placidusax, Godfrey, and Radagon/Elden Beast, in escalating order... I ended up fighting them back to back... Placidusax got me 10 times, Godfrey got me 18 times, and I died to the final encounter a whopping FIFTY-SEVEN times (23 to Radagon and 34 to Beast) The former two ended up being my favorite fights in the base game (and Godfrey is currently one of only three bosses I've put above Slave Knight Gael in my full-series ranking so far [granted I've only fully gone through DS1, DS3, and ER so the huge volume of ER bosses is doing some heavy lifting]) When I replayed the game in fall of last year after the DLC dropped, the hardest boss there was actually Malenia, because the first time I fought her it was before Blood Loss got nerfed so she took me 30 tries then. Still beat her with Bleed but it took longer, first time was on the 6th attempt. Late last year (like, second half of December, I finished the last boss at 11:20 PM New Year's Eve) I went through the game and fought every boss with no summons to really get more in-depth with their movesets, and the hardest opponents there ended up being Mohg, Lord of Blood with 28 deaths, Valiant Gargoyles with 15 deaths, and Malenia with 13 deaths. Though they were competing with DLC opponents, so Mohg ended up being 4th place overall to Messmer, Bayle, and Consort Radahn. (In other remarks, Starscourge Radahn ended up being my first big wall there, 11 deaths to him put him just below Malenia)

100% agree with that comment on Godskin Duo. The game gives you resources like pots, weapon buffs, spells, spirit ashes, status effects etc for a reason. They are tools to be used. Things like 'no spirit ash' are just self imposed challenges like 'rune level 1' runs or no hit runs. something you can do ifyou feel like it but you shouldn't feel ashamed of utilizing the tools and mechanics of the game. They are there TO BE USED. Makes me think back to Miyazaki talking about how he expected people to use poison arrows to take down the infamous Anor Londo archers rather than charging into melee. The world is out to kill you so feel free to use every trick you can find.

@@xian1978 Yeah. I feel like some people zero in on the difficulty as if that's the only thing that makes the game what it is, rather than one piece of the puzzle. I used to have the same mind set. I don't want to push my opinions on anyone, of course, you know, but for me there are just so many better and more well designed bosses, both in the base game and in the DLC, that Godfrey doesn't even come to mind when I talk about the Elden Ring. It didn't impress me, Hoarah Loux is just a downright annoying phase that can really pinch a few nerves...he's challenging yea. Anyway, Godfrey for me is just the last, slightly unnecessary, although lore significant obstacle, before the grand finale, and every time I go through the game I think to myself: "oh right, there's still Godfrey to beat...*sigh*". I've got a few bosses I wanna comment on I'll start with the number 2 on this list, but I want to add some background first. I'm autistic, video games have been my thing since I was 6 years old so for 22 years now I've been beating video games. I have logged roughly 1400 hours into souls like games a big majority of that was ds3. I've also watched somewhere around 3000+ hours of challenge runners while in twitch streams or on KZbin videos and in doing so I implement some of their strats and understand how they "break the game" in order to do things flawlessly or faster in some cases, ok now with that out of the way I'll get to my comments on elden rings bosses. Maliketh after 2 playthroughs has only killed me about 6 times, I'm positive that I'm using fairly overtuned builds and weapons, one build was the giant smasher at +23 and my most recent was the star fists at +24 both times his first phase the beast clergyman killed me twice, his phase 2 has only actually killed me a combined 2 times. I will admit that I'm a dirty mimic tear user and I'm sure that has something to do with it, however the damage I'm doing to maliketh feels otherworldly in both playthroughs so that being said for me he's not very difficult at all but I don't find alot of bosses difficult at this point in my souls experiences. Maliketh is definitely a fun boss however and I enjoy fighting him and I'm sure one of these playthroughs I'm gonna walk in and get stomped out for about an hour because I didn't level enough health or something but until then he's just a fun flippy boy that I don't struggle taking down. Godfrey/Horah Loux is a fight I found to be extremely interesting, his first phase his attacks are telegraphed and hard hitting with some aoe after effects, but in phase 2 he turns into a coked up hulk hogan, insanely large range grabs that do titanic amount of damage, fast and rhythmic punches and swipes and massive AOE's that border on the edge of being too large making the boss a real challenge even for extremely experienced players, i will say I think he's my personal favorite boss in the base game. Finally we get to this games version of Sister Friede or Lady Maria. Malenia, Blade of Miquella is absolutely the hardest boss in the base game, I have to admit my first playthrough of elden ring I genuinely couldn't beat her I struggled for 4 hours before I finally decided I just needed more time playing elden ring and understanding the newer mechanics and the way jumping adds to the game etc. On my second playthrough I beat her in about 30 minutes and in my attempts I was able to dodge the waterfowl well enough that it didn't kill me, I've looked up a strat and implemented it fairly well but it's only my first time beating her so I'm sure I'll improve and she'll become a boss I can enjoy fighting but until then, she is the single worst "hard boss" I've ever fought, her life steal mechanic alongside the waterfowl is nearly the only reason she's hard, even without one or the other she'd be completely fine but with both I just feel it borders on unfair challenge to someone who wouldn't understand the game mechanically like I do, I can only imagine someone stumbling into Malenia sub RL120 on their first playthrough. Understanding her the way I do she's not the worst boss in the game but she just feels like a chore to fight more than anything of a fair challenge compared to a boss like Rellana, or Margott even.

In my opinion, Maliketh was super tough until I went full offensive. Idk, it felt more like a bloodborne type fight when going full agro. During both phases, going full offense worked so well for me that it’s a standard practice for all of my other playthroughs. This has not worked for me on any other boss. I have no justification for why this works other than “it works man”

Godfrey Radagon elden beast and Malenia are the only ones you can't overlevel and destroy with no effort. Course you could overpower them with builds, but for a casual person that is much less likely to happen than to over leveling. I found Radagon the hardest boss in the game, to the point it is the only one i had to summon for. not even Malenia did i summon. Because of this i have no proper idea how hard elden beast is, seems obnoxious as hell so. I'd say im casual with this game, perhaps semi-casual because i did 100% everything beforehand other than a couple of missed quests. I'd probably say Radagon/Elden Beast > Malenia> Godfrey/hoarah loux > Margit> Mohg, Lord of Blood( no shackle, using cursebreak potion) Everything else i can't judge because simply by playing the game i was overleveled and didn't get to properly fight the others. The reason i had no issue with valiant gargoyls was being overleveled, however if they both spawned at the same time it'd be a different story. The way it worked for me was that I killed the first one before the 2nd one properly got close to me, so basically it was back to back solo's rather than a duo for me.

I've recently beaten the base game of elden ring, and while yes I'd consider Malenia to be somewhere in the top 10 of Elden ring's base game, I personally don't find her to even be top 10 in the series of the bosses I've beaten so far

It's an opinion on a videogame, my experience differed from other players, objectively wrong isn't something I can be in this situation As for quality, she's my second favorite fight in the game so far, second only to mr blood lord (as for the series, she's #5 while Mohg is #4)

the way I see it, when something is like very obviously easier than something else, let's say a boss with a single attack vs isshin the sword saint, then yeah I think it's fair to say one is objectively harder than the other but when it comes to bosses that are more similar in complexity and difficulty and such, like for example, Maliketh and Messmer, I don't think it's a fact that one is more difficult, because they're designed to be similar-ish in difficulty to the point that some players can have a harder time with one while others can have a harder time with the other I personally had a harder time fighting Maliketh than every other boss in base Elden Ring

Malenia took me more attempts than Consort, but I can kill her consistently with much more easy purely because she staggers and the only real thing that makes her hard is Waterfowl. Radahn has much more BS attacks on Waterfowl level and his base moveset is much more challenging. But she's still head and shoulders above anyone in the base game and most of the dlc (Minus Radahn, Messmer and Rellana)

Malenia (Around 20 Deaths) 6 Margit (Around 20 Deaths) 7 Bayle (Around 20 Deaths) 8 Placidusax (Around 20 Deaths) 9 Morgot (Around 10 Deaths) 10 Fire Giant (Around 10 Deaths) Almost every other boss in the game is around 5 - 10 deaths. Also, fuck hoarah loux, That boss is so annoying, Godfrey is fun though. Def either Messmer/Maliketh were my favorite bosses to learn.

I dont get how Soldier of Godrick is hard. Never had an issue with him, even on v1.0 Also on v1, the godskin duo didn't always have the bernahl summon sign. I know, because I got stuck on them, went and beat Malenia, came back and still couldn't beat them. Got the 1.16 update, and surprised to see summon sign, and the fight was sorta disappointingly easy for the trouble before. Additionally, I think consort Radahn is a tie with Malenia.

On 4 playthroughs, ive never actually died to Malekith but also dont even know how to fight phase 2. Idk I kill him too fast and his phase 2 activates pretty late. Anyways, I do find Malenia more difficult than Consort Radahn. Honestly Radahn isnt even THAT hard of a moveset, its just all his golden BS in phase 2 clips you and chunks your life bar. I haven't went back and fought him post nerf, but he was the only time I switched builds to a Heavy Shield because it was so unpleasant. Phase 1 is on par with Melania and Godrey as my favorite fights, but phase 2 is also on par with Valiant Gargoyles as my least favorite fights...truly the yin/yang of ER bosses. Melania waterfowl gets a pass because I like a waifu boss that can kick ass.

Im gonna be a bit of a contrarian but Melania didnt seem that difficult to me beyond water fowl. Once i fogured out how to counter that she became less like "hardest boss in the game" and more like "slightly above average difficultly boss" She is carried by water fowl. Her clones threw me off the first time i saw them but every subsequent time the attack never hit me again. Though my opinion is entirely based on the fact that i am good at recognizing patterns.

re: gargoyle poison. Who.. cares? I agree about the visibility.. really bad design, visually. But the poison is also weak in a fight that should not last the long. Hell, if you're decent, you can kill one before the other even reaches you. Tip: use the arena size to your advantage and bring the first one away from their start point. It'll take forever for the second to get to you.

Shadowrealm enemies and bosses are to varying degrees empowered by the blessing so it's no wonder every single main dlc boss make every single main game boss look like chumps to me. Malenia not excluded since the only reason she is hard after playing the dlc for me is scarlet rot, and maybe waterfowl dance. When a late-game superboss is only harder than a "introductory" dlc boss because of gimmicks, you know the shadowrealm does not mess around. So much so, ranking the base-game bosses in terms of difficulty from current experience feels almost redundant. Evident of the sheer difficulty curve of Elden Ring, and the fall from grace especially the Lands Between has felt since the Shattering. Cool way of telling a story.

My hot take : Malenia is easy never struggled with her, i think i beat her in 3 attempt or smth like that on my first playthrough, remove her only bullshit move (waterfall) and she'd be way lower on this list if you ask me, at first i was always taking about half to full dmg from waterfall, then i learned how to dodge it somewhat reliably and nowadays i almost always fully dodge it, and even if i get hit then that's why you have an estus flask you silly ! also depending of what weapon you'r using you can stagger her reliably so she never actually do waterfall in the first place and if she does you can interupt her from doing it as she is rly easy to stagger... so yea ofc consort radahn is harder than malenia, idk what my list would look like tbh but i think malenia would be outside my top 10.

I agree with your take on Godfrey wholeheartedly. Good boss with a climactic and fun (if a bit easy) first phase, but then second phase ruins it for me. The cutscene is one of the worst and most corny they’ve made imo, the fight itself is very awkward and janky with super unintuitive hitboxes, and it was one of those moments where I was fighting it wondering if fromsoft truly has maxed out this combat form and needs to switch it. We’re getting too good for fair fights so now we’ve gone to just trial and error random delayed attacks. Messmer and the DLC at least fixed that for me and made me feel better about fromsoft’s combat philosophy though.
@TheeldenLord92418 күн бұрын
Can't really talk about the moveset being "unintuitive" because that's subjective but I don't understand how it's janky or how the hitboxes are an issue , once you learn the moveset he is one of the easiest bosses in the entire game to hitless , which is quite literally the opposite of janky

Maliketh has to be the most overrated boss in Souls History. He is fast, jumps around the arena not letting you even hit him. Deals insane damage for how fast he is and has awful gimmicks. Attempt after attempt, I found myself learning her. She wouldn’t put up with any bs, some of my cheap tricks for other bosses on Melania would end with me getting destroyed instantly. In my Opinion Malenia was harder even before they nerfed consort. Malenia genuinely felt unbeatable to me for a long while meanwhile with Consort I knew from the first attempt that I had what it took. The difficulty isn't that different but Malenia condenses the difficulty into a few absolute runkillers meanwhile Radahn's difficulty is more stable with nowhere as big standouts when it comes to the attacks being insanely punishing.

malenia is definitely harder than promised consort radhan. people simply have had a few years to learn her tricks so they underate her difficulty a bit. promised consort radhan is much easier fight to learn his patterns. and the difficulty is inflated depending if you decided to grab all the scadutree fragments or not to remove the shadow realm debuff on you.
