Debbie just turned 50 (August 31) and has been writing, playing piano and producing since she was 5 years old. She wrote this when she was 14. When she was 17 almost 18, she became the youngest singer/songwriter/producer to acheive a #1 Billboard hit..(June 25 1988).she graduatef high school.the next day 32 years later she still holds that record..she still performs to this day.

She was actually 16 when she wrote and produced this, the album came out when she was almost 17. That was her grandfather handing out the flowers and her cousin on the skateboard. When she was 18/19 Electric Youth came out. I was in high school when this came out and I loved her. I wrote songs just like she did. Memories.

Debbie released this song 6/25/1988 at age 17. She was the youngest female artist to write, produce and perform a #1 hit song. She still holds the record for 31 years now. She writes her own music. Check out Lost in your eyes is a #1.

You asked who we think about when we hear the song drowning by Chris Young. I think of my father. My Dad had Oral cancer and a tumor on his carotid. It took his life on February 26, 2019. For the 2 1/2 years prior to that he didn’t have a voice and couldn’t eat on his own so I don’t have his voice to listen to. I heard this song for the first time a week after he pasted. The words perfectly expresses what grieving somebody is like. I miss you Dad with my whole heart.

Drowning reminds me of my Grandfather. He passed away my senior year of high school. He was my best friend. April 8th will be 10 years since he passed. Not a moment goes by that I don’t wish I wouldn’t have gone home that night to try to get some sleep. He was gone before I could make it back to the hospital.

Drowning reminds me of two ppl, first was my friend I lost to gang violence when we were both 14 ( he was exactly one week older than is, and oddly I still bear a scar under my left shoulder blade of where he was shot), he's been gone 25 yrs now. The 2nd person is my stepdad, he took his life 10yrs ago this coming October. In the Japanese culture him taking his own life was the honorable thing to do, he felt with his PTSD ( he was a former Marine, who fought and was a POW in Nam, he had a tattoo I loved " This Marine should go to heaven, he's spent his time in hell"), as well as AIDS Dementia that he was becomeing a burden on the family. Of all he men my married he was the only one I called Dad.

When my cousin passed, my family and I decided to keep her phone number. We keep it locked at my aunt and uncle's house... but when we really need to hear her voice, we can. She will have been on 3 years this December, and honestly... somedays I miss her so bad it physically hurts. I can't even tell you the number of times I've gone to my favorites on my iPhone to call her and tell her something and then I remember she's not going to answer. I've always been terrible at journalling. But over the years I've discovered that if I write a letter to whoever is weighing on my heart, it's therapeutic. So I bought a nice journal that is just filled with things I wanted to tell her.

Drowing by Chris Young is so right on for what my sister is going thru now!😥 August 16,2019 my brother-in-law past at the young age of 52, unexpectedly!😥 I know he is in a better place.🙌 My sister how much she misses him, they were best friends.💑 I introduced them over 35 yrs ago, married 34.🤵👰 He was a avid hunter and fisherman, not trophy we eat our kills. He wrote for a state hunting magazine. He video in the woods constantly. So she has videos to hear him and watch him. They have a son and daughter both married, he had 3 grands(1 grandson 11 & 2 granddaughters 6 & 8) so it has been really sad, emotional and quite he was a jokester!😂 I hurt so bad for her!😥😢 Please say a prayer🙏 for her their Anniversary is October 19, I know it will be a hard one!😢 🌹🌺❣🙏❣🌺🌹

Saw Debbie in May during the Mixtape Tour with NKOTB, Salt n Pepper, Naughty by Nature and Tiffiany. Great show! Drowning is about Chris Young's best friend. He wasn't going to release it yet but the version of him singing it at the Opry was released/someone shared it from the night... and him breaking down/that performance, led to another performance of him talking about it (then singing).. then he released it. This version is much more produced/instrument driven then the other versions, and I like them more - but still love it in general.
