Matthew Broderick stars as a naïve army recruit looking for action - though not the battle kind - in Neil Simon's hilarious comedy about boot camp during WWII. The year is 1945 and Eugene Morris Jerome (Broderick) finds himself far from the comforts of his Brooklyn home after being sent to basic training in Biloxi, Mississippi. Expecting the army to be dolls, doughnuts and USO dances, he instead encounters a tough drill sergeant (Christopher Walken) and a platoon of often hostile recruits. In real life, the more soft spoken your Drill, the more pain you are likely to experience. If a Sergeant ever introduced himself as an aw shucks Gomer Pyle, I’d be terrified..

@@peggyleroyandrew7914 just hadn’t ever noticed his vocal range before and normally I pay attention to those little details in performances and their performers that I’ve grown to love and/or follow. I’ve always loved Walken AND Broderick for that matter. Glory is one of my all time favourite period pieces as well as most of Walkens body of work.

Walken was so great in this; comedic lines buried in the authoritarian menace of a drill sergeant,his ability to just stand there quietly while Eugene just digs himself deeper and deeper, no yelling or screaming necessary.

He was forthcoming to LE about that night. After the quarrel with Wagner, he retired. Something else happened between Wagner and Wood that resulted in her death. It would appear only Robert Wagner now knows what happened.
