Bilstein 6112 coilover setup and install prep

Hey, today we are putting our Bilsteins together so we can have a quick and easy install with as little downtime as necessary and the ability to switch back to stock if I sell or trade in the truck.
We ordered a new dust cover, bump stop, top hat and even the nut...lol
Was little leary of the coil spring at home job but it was a cakewalk and with care and no hurries it was seamless and VERY EASY.

Thanks for this. Going to try to do strut assemblies, upper control arms, and get it in for an alignment same day. I was planning on using factory mounts, but after seeing this I am going to order the parts you did and just swap them out. Oh and I’m not sure of your age, but lookin good man. That’s coming from a guy who understands health and fitness and respects the discipline it takes.

Thank you age 57.........lol don't feel it though, make sure both sides are off the ground and supported safely. Disconnect sway bar completely, carefully disconnect all brake line and sensors as the lines will not be long enough to drop the assembly far enough without damaging them. allen wrench in bottom of ball joint I was not aware of and nut kept spinning forever. don;t be afraid of lowering the disc all the way down gently or you will not have enough room to get the new ones in there. Tighten TOP nut down as far as possible while holding center of top nut post or it will "clunk" while driving, no torque spec for that nut. Any other questions please ask and make SURE you get a real alignment shop not a retail chain etc they will screw up the job most likely. Are you getting a big lift or just replacing control arms for the heck of it? Please like and subscribe. Cheers

I checked with the local 4x4 shop and they quoted me $650 to install these plus 5160's in the rear and wheel alignment. I think I'll put them together and install myself and just pay for an alignment.

Look at your struts that you take off. The top nut will be run down alot more than your new ones. Make sure to tighten that top nut or you will have noise because the shock shaft is not tight

Can the height be adjusted once it's already installed? I found the garage didn't quite level my Ram at the front - can I just jack it up and adjust the ring? Seems not.

No, they will have to be removed OR add some lift blocks which suck. You can take em off fairly and easily quickly once you have done it and follow a tutorial I can give you. I’m fixing to do the 5100s all around. Did you have to pop the ball joint on the front struts or did they come out?

Drop upper ball joint and sway bar, both front wheels off the ground or the stress on sway bar will not allow the joint to drop enough. Buy a good and safe spring compressor, and use jack stands along with jack. if you have any further questions please ask. Be careful and remove ALL the sensors and brake line brackets, so you have plenty of slack in them, the drivers side brake pad sensor is the easiest one to mess up so be very careful with it.

Having trouble tightening the top lock nut. I can only get it so far before the shaft and nut both just start to spin. I saw you ran into this - how did you get around it?

If you hold the squared part of the shaft with a visegrip and turn the nut with a wrench you can crank it down pretty well

Yes you can but you can between 2.5 to 3" of lift off of these alone, if you lift higher you will need beefier control arms the factory ones will break.
