Great series of videos! 1) It ended up being easily the best video on rebuilding shocks that I've seen in a while. 2) This also turned out to be some wonderfully unintentional ASMR! And, yes ma'am, the previous comments are right: your voice is very soothing!

Also, I would contact your closest machine shop, and ask them to machine you a delrin sleeve to fit between the shock body and the threaded collar. End of the day, it probably makes no real difference. The whole assembly is under lateral load, and any minor deflection at the spring seat would have zero effect on suspension geometry. But... I feel ya. That thing being loose would drive me crazy too!

I am trying to consider what the nitrogen does. I assume the oil will not compress, so as long as there is sufficient oil, the separator, will not come up, and the pressure of the nitrogen improves the performance of the shock, presumably by reducing the oil’s tendency to form air bubbles, as the pressure of the nitrogen forces to air out?

you can calculate the distance for the floating piston. If you put it at the same distance as the piston are located when fully compressed you will get the least progressive. It will not come in contact with the piston at that location since the rod will take up oil volume and the floating piston will move that distance when the shock gets compressed. its important that the floating piston have enough movement when the shock gets compressed, If the floating piston bottoms out it will get damaged
