hello, I have a question about managing the entire system. you, as the driver, put the truck in neutral and activate the handbrake, and the whole system starts automatically (you activate it before collection, so it turns on automatically every time you activate the neutral and handbrake?) or it is started by the employees if necessary after you activate the handbrake and put it in neutral? thank you very much for your reply, the videos are really impressive and I have been looking for such content on KZbin for a long time.
@wheelerd027 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. The neutral handbrake thing is me over complicating things and being over cautious with colleague safety. The compactor can run off the PTO, even with the transmission in Drive. I often out the handbrake on to avoid roll backs to ensure safety for those standing near the vehicle. I also put it into neutral because I felt (strong emphasis) that it would rev up better snd be more mechanically sympathic to the equipment. There were times that compacting would take too long so you'd weld the throttle in, the vehicle would labour giving partial acceleration making slow progress foen the street until the compacting cycle was complete then you would get full power.
@lukasavic88377 ай бұрын
@@wheelerd02 thank you for your reply! in the company where I attended practical classes in high school, the driver had two switches. one that could be turned on while driving, and with the other, it turned on the upgrade, but the prerequisite was the gearbox in neutral. as far as I can see in yours the upgrade is turned on with the key next to the reversing camera and is active all the time?
@wheelerd027 ай бұрын
@@lukasavic8837 yes the whole bin lift/compactor system was on a key and automated. The body lift and hopper/vehicle emptying when at the tipping site was reached using the touch buttons beneath the screen. The lift wouldn't operate to take waste bins off the ground or lift up both legs when reverse was engaged unless the key was turned. The rear camera was active full time of course.

Hey mate, just thougt I might leave a comment. Recently found your channel and I really like all the videos since they give the viewer a insight view on how the job actually is and there aren’t many videos of that kind here on KZbin, especially not from the UK. Very interesting how you guys do the recycling collection, so there is one truck like the one in the video which collects paper and plastic and I get there‘s a second truck for the glass. Is it sorted by colour in this council, where I live it still is to ensure a better recycling quality. Also curious what type of truck does the food waste since I‘ve noticed food caddies in your videos, I assume you collect it seperate from the green waste. Hope there are more videos to come in the future. Greeting from Germany
@wheelerd022 жыл бұрын
Hello to our German viewers and friends 👋 The glass and cans lorries are side loaders. Loaders walk about with 1 or 2 bins (they get very heavy) and seperate the metal and glass. Then the bins get taken to the lorry and hooked onto teeth on the Nearside/Kerbside/Passenger and it raises vertically, before tipping into the open roof of the vehicle. The food recycling trucks are 7.5T Izusu NPR vehicles, also we have 2 or 3 Daf LF 10/12T (unsure ???) trucks also
@laurin43392 жыл бұрын
@@wheelerd02 Thanks for the fast reply. The glass collection job must be very demanding then just having to carry the filled bins around. Only for the real strong boys :P Wow so you actually have quite a lot of trucks running around for all the different materials. I‘ve just looked up the council website and noticed the council still has seperate sacks for cardboard and normal paper too, is it just a single compartment truck that collects the cardboard sacks on waste week? (Sorry for all the questions). Rarely that you still see cardboard and paper being seperated, usually it‘s just mixed together for convenience.

@@laurin4339 I haven't done glass recycling yet but I have been told how heavy it is. Due to short staffing recently all garden waste came off the road and some of our black bin loaders helped on recycling. Cue lots of moaning and refusal to work a 2nd day on glass waste Cardboard and Paper are done on opposite weeks. Despite having different weeks and colour sacks, I am seeing cross contamination all day long.
