My second attempt to film a binaural walking video. This was shot about 15 minutes after the last video, and about two blocks away. The main difference is the stock camera app vs Open Camera, and the digital stabilizer was turned off for this one.
Camera: Moto X4 phone
App: Stock Android camera app
Video Format: H.264
Focus: Auto focus
Bitrate: 20Mbps
Microphone: Roland CS-10EM
Recording device: Zoom H1 (old version)
Gimbal: Aochuan Smart XR
Video editor: Shotcut (I just synced the audio and video, and added fades. No other processing)
Sound Impression: The binaural microphones got a really good workout on this one. There was a lot more sound in the foreground, and I was very pleased to hear how it sounded. The one issue I heard was the wind noise. I'm going to build some additional windscreens to go on top of the foam windscreens that came with the Rolands.
Video Impression: Again, the bitrate wasn't high enough. The difference is that I can't change the bitrate in the stock camera app, so that's a dealbreaker. Additionally, there's no way to turn off the autofocus, and the phone kept trying to focus on different things, which really doesn't work with me. So I'm going to go back to Open Camera or some other third-party app.
The gimbal didn't work as well with the camera stabilizer turned off. I could stabilize it digitally post-production, but the in-camera digital stabilization seems to work pretty well.
I'm going to go back and study these videos to see which movements do and don't work, and where I can improve my technique. I learned a lot from these tests.
