If you use a medium or heavy binding that is not possible. But if you use a soft binding you can sometimes create a 90 degree turn by bunching up the binding (because it is so pliable). If you make an internal 90 degree turn you can sometimes pull the fabric so it becomes almost straight then sew the binding on (but if it is a medium or heavy binding the fabric will not every lay down flat again doing that). I hope this helps.

I have a 1" Swing-Away binder and had hoped to use it with homemade bias tape from rip-stop nylon, 100% cotton, or gros grain ribbon - all of which are thinner than the standard binding tape I purchased from Sailrite. The Sailrite binding is the only product that has worked for me thus far, but it is thicker than I prefer for my applications. When using the Non-Sailrite products (described above) the tape creeps from left to right off the topside to the underside and eventually creeps from under the needle on the top! I have experimented with double layers of fabric, but without success. I have placed the long white magnet along the right side hoping it would be a barrier to the creeping tape - no luck. Is there some concept I'm missing that is preventing success with the bindings that are not from Sailrite? I got the impression that I could make my own and use them.

I should add that today, I tried your polyester grosgrain binding product on my Ultrafeed LSZ-1 and it slipped from left to right within the first 3-4 inches of stitching. You hinted that you have a solution 6 years ago to someone named Jen. I have an account with you.

How *DO* you feed those multiple layers into the binder attachment? I have *HUGE* trouble getting multiple layers of fabric into the binder attachment *consistently* - as in it’s pure luck to get it all the way in, regardless of how hard I try!
@SailriteDIY Жыл бұрын
You may be trying to feed the fabric assembly in at the entry point of the binder rather than the exiting point of the binder. Always pay attention to the exiting end of the binder when pushing your fabric assembly into the fold of the binding. If you simply watch the entry point, which is curved inwards to the left, (designed to help work out kinks in the binding as it feeds, but pushes the fabric assembly away from the fold of the binding) you will miss the edge of your fabric assembly every time. So only pay attention to the exiting point when pushing your fabric assembly up into the binder and you will have much better luck.
@dennisyoung4631 Жыл бұрын
@@SailriteDIY I *was* paying attention to the exit point! I watched the vid multiple times - will watch it again later. I feel like a total Klutz (not just in this matter - in general, with almost everything.) Note that I have a *much* easier time with smaller (and thinner) pieces of fabric, e.g. two thicknesses of 1000 d. Cordura, with both pieces being scraps about the size of a hand. Then, I more or less duplicate the results in the video. The things I have trouble with are fairly sizable, e.g. messenger bags, soft luggage, and yesterday, a backpack - and I struggle to control the mass of fabric - in all senses, and not just with edge-binding.

I have tested the binder with webbing that is up to 1 mm but 2 mm would probably be too thick and not fold over correctly. I would recommend it for webbing up to 1 mm.

In most cases, yes, they will work on other brand sewing machines. If your sewing machine has two threaded holes to the right of the presser foot (about 1 1/4" away from the foot), then chances are high that they will work great with those sewing machine brands.
