It’s pretty impressive that John Lark was able to fight like he did after having half his face freshly sizzled and crashed down the side of the mountain and fell out of a barrelling helicopter. I love the realism of how the fight scene is so slow and sloppy like they are both broken and in pain.
@christiantarnoski12312 жыл бұрын
Is it really that impressive? John Lark was sold throught the movie as a physical monster that fairly surprassed Ethan Hunt in combat prowess. Only after John senses were dulled (the pain of the burning, an ear and eye damaged) Ethan had a fair chance of wresting against him, and even so they both fell from the cliff at the end (a draw). Thats the reason why, when both of them were climbing, Ethan realizes that he wont reach the trigger before John reaches him (his senses may be affected but his strength is still intact): he needs to get rid of him first. Thats the reason why this movie is so good and this scene in particular is amazing: at the end, the hero realizes that he cant beat the villian fair and square in a 1vs1 but, as the world is at stake here, the means dont matter 'cause winning is a must.

What I like about this scene is the preceding chase. Both Hunt and Walker were in helicopters and attacking each other and finally crashed and sustained injuries, and not to mention where they're at is very cold and getting hard to breathe. Hence the cold coupled with the depleted strength they had, their punches take a lot out of them, which is why Hunt's and Walker's punches have them losing balance and keeling over. It's a great touch, against the backdrop of movies where the protagonist and antagonist just stand up and fight like nothing's happened, especially after the protagonist has fought over 20-30 people.

Cavil was underrated as hell in this movie. There's some constants in these movies. Like, you go in knowing with full faith Tom Cruise and co are going to kill it, that the stunts and set pieces are going to be suitably unbelievable, that Ethan Hunt will continue to be the living manifestation of destiny, all that good stuff. But it was nice seeing how they executed Cavil's antagonist role. While it wasn't at all hard to spot he'd no doubt be the antagonist, I thought he really did great as a sociopathic, string pulling terrorist. Like how Chris Evans is equally if not, to me, often more incredible and captivating as villains, especially when given scenery to chew on, I feel like playing more antagonists or morally ambiguous characters might help Henry to really showcase the best of his ability as an actor. He's so damn underrated and so many of the projects are on turn out to deviate so heavily from anything that would give him room to work with fully. Like, as much Man of Steel holds it's own special place in my heart and Snyder very often has elements of true genius, that (and even less and less in the sequel DCEU movies) movie didn't exactly allow for Henry to stretch himself as Clark, with characters like Russell Crowe's Jor-El being almost like spokespeople for Clark Kent as opposed to Clark having his own say on the events of the movie and voicing his perspective, which only hurts Henry's chances to convey his understanding of the character. And even worse was The Witcher, with the nonstop changes and diverting away from his Geralt in favour of so many unnecessary changes.
