I love how rather anticlimactic this movie is, no dramatic shootout or monologue before the villain just dies or he dies in slow motion, just bang bang he's dead, nothing to it. It kind of fits with the gritty noir aspect of the film and adds a level of realism. Plus Robert Forrester was great in this movie, for a bail bondsman he's surprisingly soft-spoken and shy and rather polite, but he's hardly a pushover.

Max knew Jackie was a great thing that would be his undoing if he went with her, & he turned her down for his own good. I always really liked Max Cherry, but I'll admit, when I was a younger man, I too thought he was crazy for saying no.
