Oh yeah haha, brings back memories of my first phone my Pa gave me when I was 10 back in 2007 or so 😂 They’re used to really great effect in the story though with Sullivan tipping Costello and the gang off during the deal and then the iconic tense call between Sullivan and Costigan, not sure how you’d do such scenes now with smartphones but I’m sure you could find a way (except Apple doesn’t allow villains to use their products in films haha).

Not sad. Absolutely terrified by the fact that Queenan was the only person who could identify Costigan as an informant, protecting him from prosecution as part of Costello's gang. Maybe Dignam could/would protect him, but he's a prick and the two of them can't stand each other. Costigan was just praying that by some miracle Queenan might be alive even though he was thrown from the building. He believes at this point that within the next few days he will end up arrested, wanted by the FBI, or dead. He catches a break when Costello's entire gang is killed in the shootout, giving the opportunity to bring himself in, but ultimately the fact that he was never able to identify Costello's mole came back to get him killed.

Dingham knew Sullivan was dirty, but he couldn't move on him right then and there. He knew Queenan was clean and knew Sullivan was trying a little too hard to uncover the UC. In a lot of ways, the worst thing that could've happened to Sullivan was Queenan dying. Costello trusted Leo more than him, which really had to burn his soup. Having a proverbial Dead Man's Switch triggered upon his death, which sent the files to him, was a really nice touch.

I really don't understand why so many people say they hate Leonardo DiCaprio in this, I thought he was f-ing brilliant. He did an outstanding job portraying an undercover cop suffering from crippling anxiety and paranoia. Being a detective working deep undercover in Boston's premiere Irish mob, having to partake in horrible acts when you're actually a good person who doesn't enjoy doing bad things, but you have to do them to get the job done. All of that would certainly take its toll on a person's psyche, even more so when the mob boss KNOWS he has a rat in his crew and is working tirelessly to find out who it is, and I thought Leo just nailed his performance.
