Why is this hilarious? Well, while her being 13 may seem to make it legal in multiple countries if you look at age of consent maps, age of consent is only as low as it is in most of those because it is flexible. You already mentioned 1 of the 2 flexibilities, countries or states which simply make it legal so long as the 2 participants are minors, very common amongst US states. However the favourite for europe (and most of the world) is to have an "age gap" of sorts. That is, if the 2 participans are of similar ages (say, 13 and 16), its not pedofilia. This is introduced to avoid the awkwardness of having to deal with 17-18 year old couples that may find themselves suddently being illegal for a few months. Point is, this gap is even amongst the more generous countries a 5 year gap. So by making the MC just a few months over that 5 year limit, he is in fact considered a pedo in most of planet earth even counting for the gap, and as you pointed out since he waits until he's 18, he can't even be saved by being a minor himself. Meaning that the only countries where his situation wouldn't end with cops breaking down his door and chris hansen having a field day are the few islamic fundamentalist exceptions. (Notably, age of consent is a hard 12 in Iran, Yemen, Morocco and some minor islamic countries because Mohammed married a 12 year old when he was in his 40s so they think that makes it OK. Its 9 in another country whose name I forgot, its the only country on earth with an age lower than 12 too so I guess they just wanted to be extra creepy. And Saudy Arabia and Oman both just up the ante by having no consent laws at all and simply assuming consent was given so long as the couple is married and it was rape of they werent, plus having no age limit for marriages and allowing for forced marriages as indeed their arranged marriage tradition means consent isn't needed from either party, just their legal guardians (read closest male relatives.) well the author of isekai smartphone writes multiple light novel's volumes per year, it has 27 volumes published to date. it had enough volumes for 2 more seasons when season 1 aired. meanwhile, NGNL had only 6 volumes when season 1 aired in 2014 and it has 12 volumes till date. so we might get season 2 in this decade as it finally has material to adapt into anime.

The Vshojo girls also apologized but Zen was the only one to do so publicly under Nux's tweet, however Melody did not apologize at all. Basically Melody threw Nux under the bus and didn't apologize.

As someone who kinda liked the anime (except the MC, i hate him, especially on season 2) i must admit this one was very good, the MC being a calma asshole, the girls being either crazy or too focused, "sushi" being an actually old loli wife, the guy who bought the clothes being a pervert and the god being just...well, a stupid that murdered the MC for the memes, all was way better than the usual. For the first time the psycho racist (Asuna) isn't the one burning houses and in this time instead of an innocent one it's a dictator misogynistic monarch, well, played. Velma is at least interestingly. There are things to talk about. The bad character arcs, the awful personalities, the bastardizing of beloved characters. When talking about Velma, there are things to talk about. It’s awful in every way but it’s not boring. Smartphone however is just bland. It has no identity and any discussion about it and it’s Elmer’s always turns into a discussion about Isekai as a whole, because it has so little going on that people start talking about associated things. I have a hard time watching people bully this show, because it’s actually one of my favorites. The anime itself is not very good, but I remember watching it over and over again after I first found it when it originally aired. I fell in love with the characters and the situations they found themselves in. When I realized it wouldn’t get another season, I tried to find the manga, but there was even less content there. I would eventually stumble upon Bookwalker and end up buying every volume of the source light novel, falling even more in love with it as I would realize how much was cut out in adaptation to the anime, and I can’t in good conscience consider the anime good anymore. I love the series, but I hate what the anime did to it.

Honestly i have seen this anime a few times, in both subbed and dubbed and i watched it with a very close friend of mine as an introduction to anime, we watch a lot of different anime together but smart phone was the first. And frankly i enjoy the anime for the simple fact of i find it funny, i like the cast of characters, and its very simple to put on and enjoy while grinding in a game, or while working. Even watched this with him, and we love it too, non stop laughing.
