For the artichokes, they weren’t prepped properly. You have to scoop out the inedible inside and pull apart the leaves a bit so the bread crumb mixture gets in all inside.

The way to prepare artichokes is to scoop out the inedible inside, cut the tips off the leaves, then throw all that away. Then pick off the leaves one by one and throw them away. Once you have the stem left, throw that away. Simple and done!

the entire concept of the "Feast of the Seven Fishes" is always amusing to me. it's not really a traditional Italian thing, yeah there is often a big meal of fish in some regions of italy (due to some catholics abstaining from meat on the day before a feast day), but "Seven Fishes" is almost 100% an Italian American creation, specifically Philadelphia Italian American (the term was actually coined by the Philadelphia Inquirer, probably as part of a deal with a fish market to drive sales of seafood). That said, it is absolutely delicious and I would love to make it some day. though I probably wouldn't do oysters. Calamari at least one way, Clams (casino as well as pasta alle vongole), cod, branzino, some steamed crab (maryland blue if possible), and pan seared scallops. with plenty of wine, and plenty of friends alongside.

Never saw or even heard of that TV show, much less this episode, I'm drooling over much of this feast of the Seven Fishes. Dad at some point learned of the feast, and though not Italian (nor Japanese), made a form of the feast for many Christmas Eves in the future. He didn't generally make all the dishes Italian style. I'd skip the pasta and meatballs, although a white pasta perhaps with clams one could add to the side (for my neices who hate seafood), a platter of raw veggies and dips (the neices preferred their veggies raw). I'd skip any breading for any artichokes, and Mom never clipped off the prickly tips, figuring that we, when children, would learn how to eat them (we did) safely. There would be a tangy dipping sauce. As for the fish - as we weren't eating this outside in December , no whole lobster. Dad would usually simplify prep (as I do), by adding a couple types of sashimi fish. There'd also likely be mussels, clams, shrimp, squid. I've made my own versions of the feast with eel, salmon, and so forth. My favorite year was making the Salad of the Seven Fishes - everything combined into one salad complete with greens, olives, capers, cukes, colorful bell pepper, and a vinaigrette. (Made this for myself one year when I was Home Alone).

This is definitely a chef-y take on The 7 Fishes. And cod would be more common than branzino in the Italian families I know. I grew up with this meal, and I will say that while it looks delicious and some of it is congruent, but none of this is all that Italian nor is it “traditional” based on where my family is from in the Western part of Italy. I’ve also never once seen octopus salad with potatoes, so I dunno what he’s talking about that it’s “almost as much potato as it is octopus”. In my experience, it’s almost as much HERB as it is octopus but it is literally octopus, oil, herbs, salt pepper garlic, and that’s it.

Bluey’s ice cream mentioned in Bluey minisode, “Butlers”. Big bowl of citrus lime ice cream, but then poke big holes in it with your fingers to make lots of tunnels. And then pour freezing chocolate into those tunnels. And then spell her name with hundreds and thousands on top. But it has to be her whole name. Including her middle name, “Christine”, as well. In joinedy-up writing and put sparklers on it.
