Air force based militaries like the US is outdated militaries. The war in Ukraine made this obvious. Modern militaries use air force as support like artillery as. They cant use them offensively because they are easy to shoot down with modern anti air missiles. Those missiles are much cheaper of those planes.

If the US is seriously worried about numbers they can keep producing the F15EX , block 70 F16 and block 3 super hornet.These are fine for most missions after the stealth and drone forces have whittled down the small top tier forces most potential opponents possess or for the majority of recent situations where the US was fighting opposition with no serious aerospace capability.

Worth noting that between F16s and F35s alone, the US produces ~250 per year. Lot's of these are for export, but they maintain F16 production because it's simple to manufacture, they can ramp it up approximately 400% for the F16 without needing additional floor space, just more manpower from an extensive pool of trained aerospace technicians/engineers. Always consider the defence industrial base, as it is key to the overall strategic plan for the united states in having the ability to not only supply itself, but almost any of its allies should the need arise.
@@哈哈哈-d8b You cannot compare military expenditure directly as a percentage of GDP, since nations do not count the same thing as military expenditure. Just to point out something else: The Chinese aircraft engines are built with materials that just don't meet the US level of Metallurgy. What that translates into is more downtime for maintenance and engine replacement. Their engines wear out a lot faster and for every hour of flight they require about 2-3 times the maintenance time that US Aircraft require. Even if they had 2x the number of aircraft, they would have a seriously difficult time keeping them in the air to meet the US Aircraft coming.
@dominuslogik4843 ай бұрын
some chinese engines have improved that ratio significantly but China and Russia both struggle to provide time and money to fleets of older equipment to bring them up to standards with the newest production. so if china made 200 of something with bad engines then started making them with good engines those 200 will most often continue to have the bad engines for years or even decades.

One factor not mentioned is the difference between pilot training in the US vs China. China's pilots are less trained with fewer hours of flight time. In a conflict scenario, US superior training combined with superior airframes and numbers would quickly shrink China's numbers through attrition. China's inexperience with military matters in general is a serious hurdle for them. They effectively don't even have any aircraft carriers, the first one they bought was unfinished and serving as a casino when they bought it, and the 2nd carrier is a clone of that one. Their 3rd carrier isn't operational and is really just a test platform, not a functional threat.

And this is why I laugh when people talk of Russia as the 2nd best army in the world. China has passed them many years ago, and it's growing way faster. Other than nukes, there's no field in which China cannot overmatch Russia. The real question is, what is their power ratio compared to the American coalition. Especially in this next 6 or so years before all the new 6th gen stuff comes online. I think it will take all the might of the opposition to win a decisive victory in case of conflict, it's not going to be a trivial matter if those superpowers come to blows. On the other hand, if a war doesn't happen, the armies of China and the US will be ridiculously advanced and powerful by 2040, it will be Desert Storm all over again if either of those behemoths decide to flex on some medium sized third world country.

I still hold the same view that military technology capabilities are proportional to economic capabilities. When a country has no money, it is difficult to research and deploy modern weapons in large quantities. It is a basic fact that China's economic growth and high-tech development are developing. Seven years ago, Binkov made a video comparing the power of China and Russia (the J20 was not yet in service at that time). At that time, Binkov said that China's conventional military power surpassed Russia, and many people were not convinced at the time. Even in this video today, many people compare Russia's predicament in Ukraine in order to belittle China. The US debt levels and the resulting constraints on any US defence development not deemed imperatively necessary for US homeland defence could be China's best friend. Even if most of US debt is owed to Americans themselves, this is still then not the US governments property, and if money is being wasted so some US elites can assert their personal will around the world (that is not necessary for America's own defence) unlikely regular Americans would take too kindly to this.

There's also the fact that every military has competing individuals and parties within it that cause seemingly irrational decisions. So there might be a lot of solid strategy behind the way militaries compete with asymmetric threats, but there is also a chance that someone important just likes having a big radar or a fancy plane, regardless of their utility. Like the US acts like it has the money to buy the best everything, for example. In a way this is brute forcing problem of what to procure. Secretly, procurers cut corners where they have to. You know who else had a huge air force but it was garbage because it was old, not well maintained and the pilots were crap? China and Russia at some point...
@你看个锤子你看3 ай бұрын
It’s because of a simple reason: if the aircraft are too old, the fleet serviceability rate will not be very high, and the maintenance time and cost will increase exponentially.
@你看个锤子你看3 ай бұрын
The Russian Air Force lacks funds, and the number of modern fighter jets purchased is very low. The Chinese Air Force is completely the opposite. The average age of its fleet aircraft is low, the sortie rate is higher, and the completion rate is higher. Moreover, the annual production capacity of the J20 has now surpassed that of the F35. The new version of the J20B equipped with the WS15 GaN radar has already started flight testing the year before last. As for the 4.5 generation aircraft, the production capacity of the J16 is much higher than that of the F15EX. The gap between the Chinese Air Force and the U.S. Air Force is that the first is the insufficient inventory, the second is that the pilots are not as experienced as the United States, and the third is the lack of strategic strike and delivery capabilities. For example, the H20 has been delayed, and the United States has the C5 transport aircraft, but China does not. However, in terms of the early warning aircraft fleet, China has surpassed the United States...

J-20 is NOT even as stealthy as F-35. And this can already be proven. 1ST. Their is a 3rd party radar scattering CAD simulation done on Aircraft 101. Without RAM coatings, they compared all 3 F-35, J-20, and Su-57 low observable LO characteristics through their shapes/geometry alone. In a 20x20deg frontal aspect, "J-20 RCS is higher than F-35A RCS through the frequency range (approximately 3.5 times in X-band, 1.5 times in VHF band), it still has much better RCS characteristic when compared to Su-57.” So in geometry alone without the RAM coatings, a 3.5 times difference would translate to 37% difference in detection range in the X-band which is pretty significant. Even with RAM coatings of the same level used on F-35 or F-22, J-20 is still less stealthy. But obviously their will still be a substantial difference in RAM coatings. So F-35 definitely has the “first look, first shoot, first kill” maybe even a 2nd shot in beyond visual range BVR. 2ND. Both Pacific Air Force (PACAF) head Gen. Wilsbach and US Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Brown assessment of J-20 as “It’s not anything to lose a lot of sleep over” when F-35s were able to close in on J-20s and observe them near Japan. 3RD. J-20’s canards and the whole vertical stabilizers are moving. Plus their are more than 1000+ F-35s. That is 5 times more than J-20 with more than half of that in US arsenal. So US has both quality and quantity.
@chrisdoulou81493 ай бұрын
It was actually the other way around, the J-20’s were the ones who approached and observed the F-35’s. I’ll try to find the video when I get the chance, and this doesn’t mean the J-20 is objectively the better aircraft, but in that situation the J-20’s did gain tactical advantage.

China would likely be in the realm of 1.6-1.7 billion today without it. Its the inevitable crisis that had to happen basically. Likely Chinese society will need a massive reorganization so that older people's skills in non-manual labour job are utilized much better (such as in leadership/mentor roles) so that the limited pool of younger people can be focused solely on manual labour. Most likely the aging population dilemma that is being faced by most developed nations also will be temporary until the generation when the birth rate was higher dies out, then the age pyramid will even out again. China likely needs to half its population if it wants it to be sustainable.

Everyone loves to compare fighter numbers, but they forget about the most critical factor: RANGE. None of the USAF planes as the range to operate over Taiwan without being based there. That means they'd based on runways getting bombed by Chinese missiles. They could maybe fly in from Okinawa or the philippines, but that's hardly safe either and would give them just a few minutes of loiter time. That's why the air force is pushing the B21 and NGAD so hard, both with an emphasis on range: most of its existing planes are useless for a serious fight over Taiwan.

It's kind of wild to think that one country has an air force larger, more sophisticated, and more powerful than its next two near-peer competitors COMBINED, and it's not even the totality of the air assets it has.

I had the misfortune of driving a Chinese car. Those who have had the experience, know first hand what I'm talking about. At first glance, it's great looking, it's luxurious, it has "accessories" that other cars in its price range do not have. But after a few months of driving the damn thing, you realize just how far behind the Chinese industry really is. The quality of the leather and plastics used is atrocious. The steering wheel started peeling before 15K. The ride was not great, and even though the damn thing was an SUV, it couldn't drive even on dirt roads, let alone off road. Its gearbox was a third of the size of any SUV I've seen, and the engine was $hit. Thank god I didn't have a crash in it, otherwise I'd assume the damn thing would've disintegrated. That's China for you right there, the facade of modernity and impressive progress. On paper, the Chinese airforce sounds impressive. In reality, I doubt it can go toe to toe even with South Korea and Japan's airforces, let alone the USAF and USN.

The US Navy is the second largest air force in the world as well. Quantity is not a quality all it's own when we're talking about cheap knockoffs.
You said quality? Come on, let's see what Pakistan thinks? I don't want to compare J20 and F22, J35 and F35, J16 and F15EX, but you can take a look at the evaluation of third parties. Is this more reasonable? The so-called better quality? Let me tell you, Pakistan evaluates F16C/D block52 (the US Air Force is now equipped with block 52) and JF17 block3. [PAF pilot: "The F-16 block 52 is ancient compared to the avionics on the JF-17 now. We know because we fly them both" Source: Airforce Monthly, 01-2024 "JF-17C makes public debut" 】JF17 block3, the Chinese Air Force does not want to equip, its avionics equipment and radar are far inferior to J10C, not to mention that China also has PL15 with a range stronger than AIM120D. The so-called American fighter jets are far better than Chinese fighter jets, which is just wishful thinking of some people. As for maintenance, didn't these people watch the video? The US Air Force's F35 grounding rate is as high as 49%. What is the so-called capability and maintenance? What world do people who say this live in? If this is the case with new aircraft, what is the deployment rate of F15F16 F22? You can imagine. The people in the comment area are even more optimistic than the Pentagon itself~😅😅😅

Btw, 10 crashes is less than a 1% crash rate. Its better than any other fighter jet out there.

Chinese planes are based on Russian designs which are not easy to maintain or built to last, while USAF planes designs are required to be maintainable and long-lived, so a 15 year old USAF plane is half way through its' service life, while a 9 year old Chinese plane is one year away from the junkyard. That is the difference.
@你看个锤子你看3 ай бұрын
Hahahaha, you are kidding again. Among Chinese fighter jets, only J11 is directly from su27, and other fighter jets have little to do with Russia. You said that the service life of Chinese fighter jets will not exceed 9 years? Wow, why is J11A still in service? This thing has been in service for more than 20 years. Obviously, the facts do not match what you said. As for easier maintenance? Goodbye, the F35's deployment rate last year was only 51%, and 49% was grounded. What do you mean by easier maintenance? Better quality?😅😅😅😂😂😂
@你看个锤子你看3 ай бұрын
Chinese fighters are all new composite materials, stronger than Russian materials. China's only J11 is directly transferred from Russia's Su-27. As for the J16, it continues to use the technical appearance of the flanker. As for the J10A, it is more like a bunch of European fighters and has nothing to do with Russia. You need to update your knowledge.
@你看个锤子你看3 ай бұрын
In fact, China's fighter jets had too many old aircraft in service before, which affected their combat effectiveness. For example, the J6 fighter jet was discontinued in 1980, but the People's Liberation Army used it until 2012. After Xi Jinping came to power, he was willing to spend money to throw all the old aircraft into the garbage dump and replace them with modern fighter jets. Therefore, in ten years, a large number of new aircraft have been put into service. This has little to do with "design" and "maintenance".

I was under the impression that they were designed under stolen American plans. The problem That was debated was that Chinese manufacturing standards were not up to par to make something fully equivalent to the United States. But if you look at the shape of the latest Chinese fighter is it does appear that they were stolen American plans.

One factor to consider in a US vs China future conflict is that the US is a global power. As such, China would never face more than 2/3 of US naval or air forces. The rest will be deployed in the Middle East, the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, etc. Given that, US forces need to be 50% more numerous just to cover the gap.
