Ive been following Alex Stubb for a while. I think after his run as Finland's president, he should come and teach some of our U.S. politicians how to think, act, observe and lead properly.

Maybe before that, he should think for himself a bit. Think, think, think. Poor man is sadly so blinded by so many things. I don't even know where to begin. He starts out OK, then gradually the mask falls.

@@tuttirulla You are right, I am lost, probably because some things that mr President says are so wrong that even the opposite is not true. There are some things that he is shockingly blind about. It is rather striking considering his crafted outer mask. I could start though, although comments in YT is not the best place probably.

@Nebur9180 The objectivity of the speech of President Alexander Stubb: No surprise for us here in Finland. Prior to joining NATO very recently, Finland and Sweden had been neutral ever since WW2 or longer. We tend to look at both sides, take our time and arrive at a balanced solution to any thorny problem.

There is a difference between objectivity and evasiveness. He talks about NATO as if it were a state within the states. It is a military alliance with a huge money machine gone biserck. There never was "market freedom", not even in 1990-s, there was freedom for some. Market vs state has never been a pair or contradiction. His speech is actually full of propaganda: the only difference is that it is subtle and some of it he believes himself. Finland has sold itself to NATO bullying, braking a 60 year old achievement of being objective. Actually it is Finland's business class selling itself to NATO.

@@ottrovgeisha2150Specially because it was the west, Finland did help with it, that disjunctioned the multilateral institutions trying to punishing Russia and now as we see all that don't agree with it. What he calls the global east and global south, global south all together, is the one fortifying multilateralism, their multilateral institutions are growing fine, they create platforms for real mediation instead of tricky legalisms. A country like Finland is stuck now, cuted from the beginning at as it broke all bilateral ties and obligations with Russia. No other country was so blind in cuting all ties. Which means at the moment Finland is a danger for all international system. This is a reason why for now western countries will be out of the new international system being constructed. He said Finland needs way to access the eastern markets. We wants to built roads and rails to Norway , he believes Russian border will stay closed for ever, how does he want to access the northern route then? Yes NATO talks about it, that Russia has no right to control the northern route, to explore the resources in their own artic shore, or charge fares to ships although the route goes through russian territorial water, the ports are in Russian main land and the icebreakers are russians. What he wants is a neo colonial system, where Africa and even Russia has to supply them with priority at extraction costs. Repulsive and sad.

Even Alexander Stubb has become more realistic in his stance. Has he finally sobered up? Good! // The real problem with international relations is that the US, through its arrogant actions in the international arena, has upended international law and replaced it with the "US-led order based on principles", where the US claims the right to set those principles. In this way, the US wants to assert its hegemony. But it is clear that the majority of other countries, especially other great powers, do not accept such an arrangement. This reaction is completely natural and logical. It also puts the world in a dangerous swing. Russia, China and other countries from outside the Western sphere rightly want respect for international law to be restored.

I agree with Mr. President of Finance however I think that it should be our mission "in the west" to interact and play with the countries of the south - Brazil, South Africa, Nigeria ( many other African nations ), Turkey - carefully and even not the autocratic governments such as Iran, but those capable companies and people within those countries beyond the borders of the western societies. Why? Because the notion ( that Russia is fervently pushing thorough ) that the West is "selfish", self absorbed and elitist takes - in the case when we don't interact with the poorer countries and "take them on board" - this notion then grows stronger and can have detrimental effects creating divisions, misunderstanding and conflict. So I thinks that we must do more to create relationships and interact on a business-partnership level with the "less mainstream" countries. For when we take them on board, then slowly, their societies can transform from within and say "Hey! The West is actually a good friend and we want to do business and life with them". Thank You, I'll appreciate any insights and debate

@eivindkvamse1336 Hej, eivind! Today, yes, audiences and participants at conferences speak lots of different languages, so it's necessary to have a common language. English has taken over the title of being today's lingua franca, as latin was in the middle ages.

The World should follow the Nordic model or at least what it was back in the year 2000 because that would benefit the majority of the people in the world, even Americans would love free basic things and a subsidies minimal living standard. Capitalism has its good sides but look how much we have done about climate change even if we could observe the changes back when we reduced the particles in the air(new filters on "chimneys" around the world), plus that humanity has known about this for more than 100 years but Capitalism forces profit until its too late. Just as an example electronics had up to 15 years guarantees and we used "wood" for one time use things like mugs, plates and cutlery(like we didn't use plastic that much). We had metal and wooden toys that still after 40 years are used instead of the "made in China" plastic stuff... You could fix machines and they had metal, not plastic parts that are ment to brake after X years so that you have to buy a new one. Like everything went up side down just so that some got more wealth than every generation after them will ever need, insanity. Like we even put "plastic" in ourselves to "lie" about who we are, no honesty left and everything is a bubble of lies. I myself believe that we will first hit something similar to plutocracy and then anarchy(we can already see the seeds of anarchy in USA).

@@mikaseppanen1632 Probably still works because it was produced to last not brake so that they can sell more... Its just sad to watch what we have become knowing people will never give up their comforts or sacrifice their wealth for a better future for our grandchild's children. We just maximize profits and push the problems into the future... Like our debt, it would not exist if the greedy would have paid taxes as us mortals instead of trying to find loopholes to hoard more and more... Draining more and more from the state into their private pockets thus increasing the debt until it hits a point of no return... How many billions haven't gone just to the rent increases since they freed the rents, more an more people had to apply for subsidies even if they worked 40 hours per week, wages had to increase to get people to even move into cities and prices just kept rising so now something that was worth 50k marks is valued at 50k euros and I know the wages has not gone up 6 times but investors started to make profits from investing in apartments... now they don't wanna build more because that would bring down the rents and thus take from their own pockets when their own house looses value... Everyone I knew in school could predict this spiral but still they just let em loose and now... Same thing with the health care... like everything down the drain just so a few can make more profits... Some times I question if I would even defend this land, because it has become something I do not want. Like soon probably you have to pay the forest owner when you forage in their forest, like hunters already have to give a share of what they get and it was not like that before. When our veterans died the country they fought for died, like they are probably turning in their graves when looking at what we have become... Positive thing that I should be over half way done with the life so maybe its not completely ruined before I get to rest :D

Although Stubb's assessment is good, the major limitation of his lecture is his optimism regarding multilateralism. In his analysis of the current global political landscape, he makes a compelling case for the need to restore a multilateral world order. He correctly identifies the transition from a unipolar system led by the United States to a multipolar one, where competing powers are increasingly shaping international dynamics. Stubb’s historical analogies and reflections on globalisation provide a useful framework for understanding this shift. However, his unwavering faith in the possibility of revitalising multilateral institutions emerges as the most significant limitation of his assessment. Stubb’s optimism about the future of multilateralism overlooks the structural challenges that hinder its resurgence. Major powers like the United States, China, and Russia have little incentive to engage in meaningful institutional reforms that would dilute their influence. Specifically, states like China and Russia prefer bilateral or regional frameworks that allow them to bypass multilateral rules, as these offer more direct benefits. This fragmentation of global governance makes it difficult to return to a robust, rule-based international order. Stubb’s calls for a more inclusive United Nations Security Council and a reformed World Trade Organisation, while desirable, fail to account for the entrenched resistance to such changes. These institutions, mired in structural inertia, face significant barriers to becoming more equitable and functional. Furthermore, Stubb's analysis underestimates the extent to which domestic political forces, particularly the rise of populism in Western democracies, hinder multilateral cooperation. Populist movements often prioritise national sovereignty over international commitments, and leaders facing these pressures are reluctant to engage deeply with multilateral frameworks. This trend has weakened the ability of international institutions to manage global challenges, from security threats to climate change. While Stubb’s lecture offers a thoughtful analysis of the geopolitical shifts that define today’s world, his belief in the revival of multilateralism is an optimistic limitation. The reality of competing national interests, structural resistance to reform, and rising populism suggests that a return to a robust multilateral order is far more challenging than Stubb anticipates. His idealism, while commendable, may overlook the complexities of the current global order.

@jormungandr-tyr926 Thank you for your interesting comment. 🇫🇮🏞️🌲 It's evident, of course, that any speech or ideas on topics encompassing the entire global state of affairs has to be simplified quite a lot. The same is true for any individual wishing to make some sense out of a world of too many fragments of a physical and nonphysical nature, that is, geographical, commercial, historical, social and psychological components. He or she has to simplify, compartmentalize and prioritize, has to make whatever the topic is seem logical or mentally acceptable, in order to retain it in his or her mind. Yes, President Alexander Stubb is simplifying things, as he himself admits, and to simplify is sometimes not a good idea; it may even be dangerous. However, in this instance, and in similar ones, simplifying is necessary to get one's message across. The alternative would mean that the speaker had no understanding of the circumstances. Yes, President Stubb is an optimist. He's a promoter of ideas, of positive thinking, one who wishes to make people enthusiastic about things. He is actually really a man of action, of getting things done and changed for the better. I think that it's better to be an optimist - if one considers the alternative. When has the world ever really needed a pessimist... In my eyes, he's a young man of fifty, since I'm thirty years older than he is. He has matured a lot during these last twenty years, but he still has more to learn, as we all do. I hope that the hype surrounding him will die down fairly soon. Finland has had a few political leaders lately who have caught some attention worldwide, like our former Prime Minister Sanna Marin. There are exceptional people in Finland, but we could do without the hype. Besides, there are exceptional people everywhere. In Finland's case, we have our educational system to thank for our status as a modern, liberal Nordic welfare state.

@@Gittas-tube I agree, there is a ton of nuances in this topic that can be so easily lost by those not as knowledgeable about macro & micro economics, and global politics. Some things must be simplified to get a message across to the masses. I also agree that I would much rather have a optimistic leader than pessimistic, I just believe that it's also good to be grounded on the realities of the challenges that comes with solving complex issues. Despite pointing out his limitations, Stubb's envision is in the right path, in my opinion. As a Finn, I especially agree that there is bit too much hype. Especially when Governor Tim Walz gave a shoutout to us in one of his speeches. I am a strong believer in the Nordic model, though I feel like much of the outside observers, like the ones from the States, misunderstand how Nordic model works (much them just jump to the conclusion that we're communists, which is not true). I would not call it democracy what USA is today, more like a state where the corporations rule. Like the money the leaders get has a bigger weight on the leaders actions than the votes of the people so is it really the voice of the people or more the voice of the greedy? A democracy would make the needs of the many more important than the needs of one, currently in USA they sacrifice the many for the few. They are allowed to use money to twist the reality of people and not obligated to tell the whole story or even the truth. So the western world is currently heading towards something similar to a plutocracy. Our dear arrogant president still has problems with understanding that he represents us all, like he is not uneducated in any way just a bit lost still but it took Sauli like 3 years to find his place also(seems the ones coming from Kokoomus"wannabe USA party, down with the welfare state" has this issue). So he sees nothing wrong in the American system even if its destroying ours because he himself wants it but he should represent us all and I think the 60% earning less than 30k would rather keep the welfare state at the cost of our wealthy not being able to amass insane wealth as in USA. What I know that if we start to have homeless people and people having to sell their homes because they couldn't afford a insurance, then I will not defend this country. Loyalty is also based on the country taking care of its weak, not only feeding the greed of the greedy(its a black hole, they will never have enough). He is arrogant, he at least was a bully, he comes from wealth... so lets see if he will turn into a normal human one day, at least his education should be enough to see things with open eyes...

@@MrSpritzmeister If you are not from here you probably see a different side only of him. Its not about liking him or not, its him not yet understanding his position but as I said "It also took Sauli 3 years and he was a good president. As a president you do not represent yourself or one part of the country, but you represent us all, Stubb still seems to be a bit stuck in his former life writing books and holding lectures... So this is not about opinions or your feelings, its about a person doing the job they were "hired" for. He does a great job in some sectors but that doesn't make him even close to what he should be. He is probably one of the best foreign ministers because he is arrogant enough to fit in with the other Europeans and greedy enough to do well with USA. Just because he has bad sides and a need to improve you don't have to start crying like a little teenage girl that just found out she had red color in her panties...

@@amadeuz819 se on muuten “if you are not from here, you only see a different side of him”. Should I be from hicktown, Central Finland to see the “real” side of the man? The man is clearly qualified for his job and from the choices we were given, the best to formulate the basis of allied Finnish policy especially as he is well versed in the anglo-spheric policy making approach. I personally find his persona annoying, but that’s totally irrelevant. What you were spewing is total hogwash.

@amadeuz819 22 күн бұрын
@@stevenpace892 I would say they more often don't go together, dunno about other countries but in Finland the wealthy doesn't have better judgement and they just inherited the wealth(usually degrading their judgement). Like Stubb was a bully in school so for the judgement part, he lacked compassion for others(many other negative things also, like he was attacked by people that is a very rare thing over here). Nobody is perfect but you just assume that good judgement goes together with wealth because that is what you see, you don't see the other side because those with bad judgement usually don't make it except Trump seems to be the exception(so many failed companies but still he somehow stays up there by twisting the rules of the game).
