So happy to see you're advertising the bioinformatics field. I had pretty close experience with bioinformatics as you did, I was also terrified in the beginning and not interested in coding as well, but once I started it turned into my passion and not just a job but also a hobby. Also, I think for those who have biological knowledge and want to get a bit of an idea about bioinformatics, Galaxy is a really nice platform where you can run so many different tools depending on the goal of your analysis. The best part is it does not require any programming skills and it is really user-friendly.

After watching a bunch of videos (including yours) decided to take the leap to work on becoming a data analyst and learnt SQL, R and Python. I would say if anyone is going to Bioinformatics I would suggest do a CS degree or CE/EE degree with a some electives in bioinformatics/ biology. You’ll come out your degree with the advance programming skills , embedded software, computer architecture, understanding web and app development, Deep of understanding of Linux, CLI, computer networking, mathematics/ probability stats than a biologist, which for the most part is the core for most jobs. it also opens more doors to other fields such as aerospace/ semiconductors and big tech, fintech and career paths. biotech is very niche and have a high tendency of layoff .There are a lump sum of biotech companies. You do not want to get pigeon hole. It also hard to transition into other industries if have a background in biology. If you are CS or CE/EE you can literally work everywhere since you have a good foundations. There are similar roles like bioinformatics like econometrics, which is essentially a bioinformátican , but it’s strictly for economic data but they tend to hire CS/Math/ / CE/EE/ economy. I was once told by a director that its easier to teach biology and chemistry to an engineer or CS( EE/CE/ Chem e , CS ) than it is too teach programming / advance stats mathematics/ electronics/ controls to biologist. That’s because usually engineers and cs planning on going to bio tech have already a general knowledge of bio.

Should retrieve datasets from clinvar and uniprot for at least 3 cancers, process them, annotate them with the help of ensembl vep and annovar. I am doing it with Google colab. I did the data retrieval so far but since there are a lot of names for cancers like for breast cancer there's breast neoplasm, carcinomas. So what i should is to type in breast cancer in the input and it should tell me these are also the other terms of breast cancer, would you like to select these as well. I am stuck here about this part. Can someone help?
@beautyproducts67693 ай бұрын
I don’t think you should select all types of breast cancer. If it says at least 3 types. Then you can select the number you want under breast cancer. But if you are working with other types of cancer, you can select one type of each type of cancer that you are working with. In my opinion, I would think you would be checking the genetic variation among the different types of breast cancer since it’s supposed to be closely related OR the different type of a particular cancer type (say carcinoma) in different parts of the body. Ask your supervisor for guidance

also i got a super important question ! i think all your viewers will be curious to know : why you did not replaced by an india coder ? - as i see you works 100% remotely so what's the reason for your employee to spend 2000% of his money on you rather than 100% on some guy from Mumbai ?
