I took her in and when I made that decision, I became her parent. You don't take your biological child into your home and expect them to stay at arm's length. You're a parent now, lady. You didn't owe her parenthood, but when you took her in, you became one. My daughter is 21 now, and I'll be paying her way through college (which isn't easy). To treat it as a "loan" is unthinkable.

I disagree that it’s mostly. I think it’s more common that the biological mother can’t take care of a child especially if she is a teenager with no support system. Also not all adoptions are to strangers. Many children are adopted by relatives or it could be non-relatives in an open adoption. Either way there is still contact between the mother and child after the adoption.

As an adoptee myself, who did try to find my mother, I learnt she had committed suicide some years previously. From what I know of her, I am glad I never met her. I had a loving adoptive family, (and while we did have our ups and downs), what more can any child ask for. You are absolutely correct to state the experience of trying to get to know your natural parent, could be more traumatic, (as this poor young lady found out here) than that of having been relinquished.
