I get that too, like my jaw used to lock and id need to physically crack it back into place so i could move it again. Anything jaw related is a big nope from me, i remember my shock at that death scene. Clickers pulling out neck muscles i had zero issue with, but bloaters are something else

When I saw the death scene I was horrified. Like the amount of detail when they rip the jaw from your skull and the skin just rip and stretch to the point of rupturing as t the players eye pops out. Show how much effort they put into the last of us

@@Goku_blackfan1553 the rat king is called the rat king because multiple infected were fused together which is completely Irrelevant because it's not a stage, the bloater is called the last stage because it's easier. And anything bigger would become a bigger bloater. The shambler has an acception because it's just a water logged bloater. But the stage of infection wouldn't stay alive forever, correcting you because you said "Technically there is no final stage of this fungal infection, as long as this host remains uninterrupted they will continue to become more stronger, and more infested and bigger" when It has a death in the cycle to produce more spores. So that is it's last stage.

unfortunately, the person would still be unrecognisable. cordyceps would’ve grown through the skull, essentially giving the bone a cleft lip. those hardened plates can’t just be gnawed off. it’s permanently attached & altered the person ‘underneath.’

That hospital in Seattle is ground zero for seattle, most of the first infections in the city where put in the lower parts of the hospital to die, be infected, and quarantine away from most of the other “healthy” civilians. By the time Abby in down there looking for supplies for lev, it’s already been 25 years of the infected being developed. With that being said Ratking isn’t another stage of the infection, it is a mutation. It’s a bloater aka stage 4, mixed with a stage 2 aka stalker and ive also heard there is a clicker mixed in there. It isn’t a stage because one entity on its own cannot turn into ratking hence the information behind the word “ratking”. If you check the nest out for the ratking you can see that thing has been sitting for while with many corpses, fungi, and spores are mixed in for almost 25 years. The fungi mushed and plated those entities all together, it’s why when you damage the ratking enough, the stalker will rip itself off of the original mass that is “ratking”. That stalker is also mutated as it’s the only known stalker ever to be able to throw spores like bloaters or shamblers. This isn’t a stage of mutation for a single entity, but what this does mean in the right conditions(enough years for development& and enough infected for mutation) there are more infected just like ratking out there. TLOU3 explores this I hope, just a little lore for those interested in this amazing series I’ve fell inlove with since younger

The reinforcement of muscles by the fungus is something I haven’t heard yet, that would perfectly explain why the bloaters, and even clickers, seem to be so much stronger than uninfected people. I always just thought that they could exert themselves more due to elevated pain tolerance or something like that

Most likely. I feel like most runners and stalkers would have several broken bones. We are capable of huge feats of strength but our brain stop us in order to prevent injury. It seems like the fungus doesn’t care since we see infected use their whole body to break down doors.

Bloaters should have a reason why they are huge as hell. Maybe only a large body with a lot of body mass can take the burden of so much fungal growth. They could also use this as an opportunity to to make a new enemy type. So more average body size would mean less fungus growth and more mobility. Maybe it would act like a more armored clicker and have some spore attacks.

This is not a 4th stage. Clickers can't grow up to be bloaters. Bloaters are bloaters because they were super fat before they became infected. How do I know? From the game we see the clicker become so overgrown with fungus, they fuse to the wall. This is when the fungus is ready to release the spores. Bloaters can release spores at will. It's a completely different variation due to the hosts body composition.

In the game It literally said on a poster that they were a evolutional stage of the Clicker, even Joel once said it to Ellie that „he‘s been infected for a long time“ instead of „that’s just an overweight clicker“. Also I’ve seen stalker overgrown with the fungus fused on the wall too & releasing spores, but does that mean that clickers weren’t stalkers before?

Okay look at it this way, the bloaters are football players, and bodybuilders that got infected and have reached level 3 of infection where the fungus needs to ecolocate by clicking. A normal size person is only going to become a clicker as the fungus is focusing on growing out of the body for spore dispersion, instead of making the host's mass bigger. In the case of the bloaters, the host was of already above average size.

It is not the final stage of infection necessarily. It’s was mutated between a few infected being mushed together by the fungus where spores & infected were piled on top &next to one another. You can even see the rat kings nest in game, It’s a mutation of multiple entities combined into one mass. It’s the only known case of infected being mushed together, ratking is an anomaly as we know it so far

Im not sure but my theory is that since the bloater has consumed most of the host's body, it needs more to keep going, so instead of focusing on infecting, they're focusing on killing- mycotoxins are probably made to kill rather than to infect
