As a teen with social anxiety -- even among my own family members -- I drank some psilocybin tea. Afterward, during a conversation with my mother, I felt a calm come over me and that a veil had been lifted. At that moment there was no anxiety. My normally buzzing mind was silent and it seemed that I could see and think clearly. Normally feeling unsure of myself, I experience a period of feeling confident that everything was going to be alright.

Psychedelics in general have done what hundreds of hours of PTSD therapy couldn't. I went from being on 31 pill daily for mental states to 0 over the course of 13 weeks. Like everything in the world. It's not for everyone and experiences will certainly vary. Me and my friends approached it from a lens of healing and learning and it's exactly what we got out of it.

The one time I had a bad trip, ended up being a great learning experience. I took some shrooms, called ALL of my friends. They sounded excited when I told them I was on shrooms. Inevitably they would ask if they came over they could have some. I didn't have any extra, then they would say, "Oh I can't trip sit with you I'm busy". This hit me deep in the feels, causing a bad trip. So I asked myself why I had sooooo many shitty "friends". The answer? "You're a druggy and so are they. You're pretty shitty too. You're a loser. Move away from your toxic home town and stop doing drugs". Felt excited and happy after getting this answer. I moved that same week. Best decision of my life.

People with depression proceed with caution. I suffered from extreme depression and ptsd from a accident that left me burned and disfigured. I struggled with depression for years but never suicidal. I tried a mushroom trip as a last resort to cure my depression and what happened scared me! The trip made me comfortable with the thought of death. Almost made me think that suicide wouldn’t be so bad, it’s ok to die. These thoughts scared me to no end! I didn’t have these thoughts before the trip. Luckily I spoke with my wife throughout this process and together we worked it out. Later on a tried micro dosing which ultimately I believed truly helped me. The micro dosing made me more open and I was able to lay it all out and work thru things with my wife to help guide me. So just a word of caution. And please let your loved ones know what you are doing so they can offer help if needed.

I was once worried that I might be a psychopath. I told this to my counselor and she said, "I definitely know you're not a psychopath." I asked her how she knew. "A psychopath wouldn't be worried about it. A psychopath wouldn't care." I dont know if that conveys what I'm trying to say, but what I'm getting at is perhaps being scared of being ok with suicide is a good thing... depression is like a living death and a lot of our thoughts while depressed are like being ok with dying like that. So perhaps that is the lesson. Well...I think I really shit the bed on that one and i dont think what I said makes any sense, but I hope you know what I mean. Being scared of beingnok with death is like being afraid of death which, for a person with a wonderful wife etc is a good thing. Kicks your ass into appreciating life.

In the same house, I did a small experiment: I was not drinking any alcohol then, but my boss had given me a bottle of sherry and 2 glasses for a job well done. So i sat, meditated, and asked a question: what is alcohol? Then i drank 2 small glasses of sherry and lay down. About 10 minutes later a carpet of all black inscts, spider like, entered the room and crawled towards me. Terrifying. I knew it was a hallucination but could do nothing to stop it. I could not utter any sound.Paralised with fear. That was 45 years ago. Mind is a strange and tricky place. Nowadays, i just shift focus and enter the Transcendent anytime. No need for any drugs.

@@sandrastreifel6452 "those natural substances do aid and improve your meditations".This may be true for some, and not so much for others. In the end, even Terence McKenna did not make a lot of improvement compared to Ram Das. With all his knowledge and experience, he still was trapped in the mind. I see Psycheldelic users who have blown up ego´s and think they are so great, but actually horrible people. Psyechedelics, if used correctly, may give some insight using it once or twice, and stimulate to start meditation, but i also see, that it becomes a hindrance once the level of psycvhedelics is reached "naturally", via meditation. The ego strikes back at such a point, and all advance disappears because the "body-memory" triggers the ego back into action. And then it is much harder to get rid of. Psychedelics do nothing to evaporate the ego.

After this I cried with happiness for a while, as if my body needed to release built up tension through crying which then put me at massive ease. I was stripped of my ego and saw the beauty of life and interconnectivity and even though i still battle anxiety and depression, l'm doing better everyday and will never think in such a self destructive way again.

I just experienced my first “bad trip”, i induced an anxiety attack about specific things troubling me in life, i came to the realization that my anxiety was about hypothetical situations that may not even happen, my overwhelming visuals were halted and all i could feel in myself was pure light and love. I had solved the biggest thing troubling me in life with the help of LSD. I can honestly say that this drug has cured my anxiety and depression about my future, my life seems so bright ahead of me. I wish all of you luck in finding your own way❤️

Come back to this comment within a year, to see if it still applies. I don't believe a trip can clinically 'cure' anything to be honest. When you have scientific evidence besides some random fMRI scan of the same single brain on acid. BTW feeling sad isn't the same as depression, if you didn't know that already. If you go to a psychiatrist or doctor and he gives you a diagnosis, you can call tell me you suffered from a major depressive disorder. Depression is a lifelong illness, if you've had 3 depressive episodes, the chance of having a next one in the near or further future is almost certain.

LSD and mushrooms completely changed my whole outlook on life..I became a better version of myself. This experience gave me a lot of confidence about myself and a bunch of bad thought/behaviour pattern were broken. One of these was pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands alot..it gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip. The main reason for the trip was my severe Depression and it definitely helped me. I tried psychedelics in the form of shrooms also with some really strong weed and alcohol together. And needless to say the trip itself did not go well. However I think it was the catalyst to coming out a changed man. Afterwards i realized I was a very unhappy individual and there was a lot of dark shit buried deep within my sub-conscience. Things ive always thought if i said or expressed out loud people would hate me. My one friend who was with me while i was tripping out stood by me and to this day is probably my closest friend. Needless to say, ive come out a changed man. In 3 months I’ve eliminated all of my people-pleasing tendencies, ive sought professional help for something that happened to me in my childhood, started a new career, I even started dating. I probably won’t go out of my way to try it again but that experience has made a lot of things that i thought were impossible, VERY easy today.

Just from microdosing .5 gram, this oddly enough seems to be the case. It helped me work out conflict with others, see the perspective from basically a bird looking in. It was about uniting vs revenge and excluding others. I thought, wow if everyone saw it this way….we’d be a highly advanced species. Right now we are just semi average in my book ( some cool things for sure) but lacking potential. AND this meant ME as well, I am not excluded. So I decided to quit my vices and become a productive member in society. If shrooms can do that experience to everyone then we are in for one amazing ride!

During the trip I somehow "remembered" how to perform Yoga. The first time in my life I performed Yoga for over an hour in a park while under the effect of psilocybin. This miracle happened 5 months ago but also I had so hard time comprehending what's going on really. I have a homie who did suffer psychosis after trying acid. We had taken shrooms together multiple times before and he was always fine, but the first time he dropped acid he went bat shit crazy, showing up to parties wearing 9 hats, making all these crazy homemade weapons, like a bunch of batteries in a bandana, he stopped sleeping and just worked out all night. Shit was bad and we all thought we lost the friend we knew forever. He went to a voluntary program in Chinatown and he got better. That was years ago and he wasn’t quite the same even after the program. It wasn’t until within the last year that he finally seems back to his old self before the acid. Thank God for that. I’m a big proponent for mushrooms and weed, but I’ve never really trusted acid, never tried it myself. I feel like anything made with mans hands has too much potential for things going wrong. I should also say the guy he did acid with was completely fine, just something about his body chemistry I guess, but still, mushrooms never did that to him. He stays away from alcohol now too, I think it has the potential for his psychosis to relapse. I’m not telling anyone what to do and or take, just thought that info should be out there, be careful with what you take people

Simple summary: you are a spirit having human experience. Your conscious core self is hidden under the shell of ego(unconscious self). You always thought and identified yourself as your ego, with its illusions. Lsd or shrooms makes your ego dissolve. Spirit self will emerge. You don't have a soul. You are a soul. This is what emerges. You won't understand it. You will experience it. Human thinking mind can't compherend the awareness (spirt) But you can be it. You can be yourself.

From my experience as a veteran PSychonaut of over 40+ years there is a marked difference between organic and synthetic forms of psychedelics. Organic forms like Mushrooms, Ayahuasca, Peyote, and san Pedro have a connection to an "other" that is a guiding or interactive presence. Synthetics like LSD do not have this association. There is no "Mother LSD" like there is a "Mother Aya". I would like to see Psilocybin trials using natural Mushrooms instead of synthetics or extractions. I believe that isolating a specific chemical from a Plant Teacher alters the connection and experience. I know that the scientific mind has a delusion about dosage and control, but those with experience know that just a little at times can be a lot. There is a "next step" though to integration and processing; after wringing out the Jungian type associations to the journey-ask yourself "of all the journeys to have/co-create, WHY this one?". This question and the quest if so chosen will really open the Rabbit Holes of your psyche. Also, you need quite a few more journeys than one to really get an appreciation for this! I love Michael and have read his books, but I think he should do more than just dip his toes in.

You don't need any psychedelics just sit in a dark room for 1 week The key mechanism starts with melatonin, which is created in the brain by converting tryptophan into serotonin, which is then converted into serotonin. There needs to be enough tryptophan in the body through diet. Then, the melatonin builds up over the course of the next few days. It builds up at the rate of 2-5mg per day which then tapers off at 15-20mg. The body then recognizes that melatonin is no longer needed and begins producing pinoline, 5-MeO-DMT, and DMT. THis part of the process takes about 3 days. Pinolene is released within the pineal gland (as all these compounds are) and produce “the light show” that is commonly seen in many psychedelics. The DMT and 5-MeO-DMT is a key part of the therapy. During this point, “ego death” can be experienced with an increase in “beingness”. During days 6-8, 5-MeO-DMT (which is normally only found in the womb and in the first few months) is now reactivated. Around day 9-12, there is enough mono amine oxidase inhibition from the pinoline secretion to allow the melatonin cycle to be intercepted by adrenaline and ephedrine activity to be converted into a DMT serotonin pathway. The DMT levels reach above 25mg which allows the body to transcend into “hyperspace” or the DMT realm. So you can have the same Tripp without the drug itself.

Making great progress on defeating tribalism and then makes a Trump joke… was almost a great talk. I’m all for finding our similarities, which are far greater than our differences, but neither side can take jabs while simultaneously attempting to come together to eliminate “sides” and instead focus on love and compassion. We are so close to tipping either way in the extreme. My prayer is that we tip towards love and compassion, and not further divide with hatred. There is real truth in this world and it seems like psychedelics help a lot of people in their walk towards the spiritual. For me, that is Jesus, for you it might be something else, but as a culture it would seem we need to embolden people to find truth and avoid nihilism. God bless you 🙏

Wow, I’m only 43 and nowhere near the same intellectual plane as Michael Pollen. How encouraging to hear he struggled with the link between spirituality and physical reality.

Psychedelic’s definitely have potential to deal with mental health symptoms like anxiety and depression, I would like to try them again but it’s just so hard to source here

I've been microdosing on the batch of mushrooms I got from one guy online for the last few months for depression and the results have been immeasurable. The world has beauty again whereas before it was grey and painful.

A couple of years ago I was in a big black hole with drugs . I tried once LSD and from that day I stopped everything I literally traveled inside myself and what I saw was terrible and beautiful.

Yeah, I don’t know why, but you don’t want to look in the mirror, for some reason, when our ego doesn’t know what to do with itself, it finds the image of itself to be the most offensive thing. Before I tried psychedelics, when I was but a child, and I played my viola in the orchestra, I could feel the music, I could see the music around us, much like the energy that is constantly in the air, it’s there and we can always feel it, you just have to learn how. I lost that ability through growing up, we all do. And the only way we can relearn how to do it as adults, is through the psychedelic experience, or at least I believe so. What I find through psychedelics others might find through meditation. I just know my mind isn’t patient enough for the satisfaction that long down the road.

I took LSD many times in the 70's. I never experienced a 'bad trip'. Everytime was expansive; it always included loads of hilarity and bouts of laughter. Extremely fun and exhilarating. At the time, it was complimented by reading 'Be Here Now' and 'Monday Night Class', Meher Baba and Ramana Maharsi. So Psychedelics were part of my entry into spiritual growth, expansion of consciousness and enlightenment. Beautiful, eternal, blissful. 🕉

I had mushrooms once many years ago, but all I can remember is that I couldn't walk up the stairs, I had to crawl up them. It felt similar to couch lock after having cannabis. After hearing these talks I'd like to try them again, but I really don't like the feeling of couch lock, and I didn't have any insights or anything. Maybe micro dosing would be better?
