In this tutorial I show you how to make a Bionic Arm or Mechanical Arm, Robot Arm, etc. Unlike the previous version of this build, this one is not made of metal, but is made EVA foam. It can also be made from lots of other materials as well.

One thing: make sure when you heat EVA foam that your room is well ventilated. Heated foam can give off bad fumes. (Spray painting gives off bad fumes, too.)

So I decided I was going to do the bionic arm for my first medal project while working on it, my son decided he needed a winter soldier arm too. Lol. The snaps are so much easier of an idea. I was going to just try and mount it to the cloth, like the metal arm. Just glue instead of rivets. Also. Thanks for the new addiction. Working with metal is so relaxing. Makes you slow down and dishing a shoulder can help relieve a lot of stress. Lol

Great video! I'm working on a costume that incorporates both foam and metal. I'll have foam weapons and a tight, stretchy glove that will be covered in small, aluminum parts to look like skin that was torn away and all that is left is the metal underneath. Can't wait until it's done.

I have no idea how I missed this over a year ago. I had been wanting to make this exact arm but despite buying the sheet metal and a few tools, I couldn't get everything needed together before I ended up finding out it would be banned at 80% of the conventions I go to. So I just gave up. So glad you made this.

The paint job really sells it and the use of not seaming it but instead forming it like you would metal gives it a much better look then conventional foam smithing. You can get wood burning tools at most craft stores. Not really sure if they run cooler then a normal iron but they give you a good choice of tip shapes for burning and working the foam details. Barge can be found at Leatherworking stores.

If you were to do more foam armor videos you would attract more people into cosplay and increase your sub count but honestly there's already soooo many cosplay youtube channels . I'd say go for it but just don't over do it . I'm subbed to you because you're an awesome metal smith and there's not that many here . If you were to start doing nothing but foam armor I would probably unsubscribe or remove you from my notifications since I'm all cosplayed out . So go for it but in moderation, also try incorporating different materials into the same project . IE: Metal , wood , leather , plastic , 3d printing , etc. Also try diving into different projects like sculptures , furniture , knife making , and leather goods .

Don't worry I won't be doing much of this (may not do any more at all). I just want to reach more viewers who can use my videos and my templates. I don't think a lot of people outside of metalworking realize that these templates will work for other materials as well. This is just an experiment to see if I can attract new fans, that's all. As far as other stuff....I did do a few hot rod videos which did pretty well. We'll see how receptive my audience is to this cosplay stuff, but don't expect me to stop with the metal
