So much conflict going on here amongst us fans of Lego Bionicle and this project... I have to say some things... I think that someone who can think outside the box of what Lego offers, is a good way to be creative. Albeit, this creation reminds alot of us of steampunk modeling... just using Lego parts as the base. Honestly it's still something that takes decent creativity- and that I can appreciate. That said, most people have issues with taking Legos and utterly mutilating them, which is understandable... especially since some parts are no longer being produced and are becoming rare. I myself, being a Lego enthusiast for most of my life, have some serious revulsion seeing it... just because I've loved lego so much. On top of that, I have serious issues accepting some of these designed crafts simply because they model real life designs more than the original Bionicle designs that the theme calls for... Even then, however, I have nothing against the creativity and expression made though it. In fact, Lego themselves have taken many liberties when creating variations of Lego designs for the movies. For instance, I was never a fan of the movie adaptations of Bionicle creatures and characters because they became two lifelike... Eyebrows and teeth did not suit my taste at all lol... But still, I could appreciate the movies for what they were; good storytelling. Ultimately, things like this are what I'm looking for when they release their stop motion film. I'm looking for good storytelling, good characters, good relationships, and most importantly the glorification of God and His Spirit- something that I can't say I've seen done well using anything related to Lego Bionicle.

I wasn't a fan of the paint scheme at first; I, personally, wouldn't have referred to real-life animal exhibits. However, comparing this Muaka to the original, I'm actually intrigued to note how the yellow with brown spots isn't to far off from the original's yellow highlights and the brown spots on the infected masks. It's almost like the original could have been a very VERY rough draft for this magnificent design.

I think personally that there was still an opportunity to include the treads into the design and function in some way. Muaka being an original rahi means it would definitely have had some mechanical components to their biological ones, and the treads are like the perfect hybrid to an otherwise very animal-like creature.
@sethicusiii7878 Жыл бұрын
It looks amazing, really well done. You were right about it being controversial, I don't love it. I think it's just a little bit too much bio in your Bionicle. One of the things that makes it cool is that it's a mix of biological and mechanical, I think this one went just a tiny bit too far into biological. Perhaps a bit more silver/black in the paint can easily fix it. Good job, keep it up. You are doing great work :)
@crushedcan5378 Жыл бұрын
yeah it may be too mechanical but you cant deny that the head shape gives what it is away
@YayaFeiLong Жыл бұрын
I'm sure it's too late in production at this point to make any changes to this particular Rahi design, so this is just for future reference, but -- I think it would've been better from a readability standpoint to have given the Muaka a slightly less uniform paint job with more color variation between different parts of the creature's body. Sort of like what you previously did with the Hoto Beetle or Nui Rama. As it is now, the huge amount of mechanical detail combined with the uniform yellow-with-black-spots color scheme throughout makes the Muaka's body blend into an amorphous blob of yellow and black on camera. In a lot of the shots in this video (3:45, 5:43, 7:05) it's often hard to make out where the creature's limbs even are at a glance. Of course it's nothing that can't be mostly mitigated with good framing/blocking, but it's still something worth considering for future Rahi paint jobs

The base build is very cool. I can't help thinking though, that none of it pops out because of the paint scheme. The spotted pattern obscures a lot of detail, which should be expected, because it's camouflaged, but that doesn't always make for the best film. No question that this took a lot of effort and talent, but it isn't Muaka anymore. I think forcing it to be more inspired by a real creature is a bit misguided. If either the build was more boxy, like the original model, or if the color was more true to the original, you would be able to see that it is Muaka, but all that is left now is "big cat." The "Bionicle" identity of it has been as obscured as possible, and I think that is a shame.
