I swear every true crime story involving a teen going missing, the cops are like "you know kids, always running away lol." And it'll be like "Sarah was diagnosed with agoraphobia and could only leave the house if someone was with her. She hated the rain and would never leave the house when it rained (meanwhile she went missing from her home on the day of a huge rain storm)."
@BoxOKittens2 жыл бұрын
I've never understood why runaway kids are treated as not a big deal. Children that run away are still in danger. They're kids out in the world somewhere alone. Predators will target a runaway kid just the same as any other child. Also, what caused them to run away? They could be in danger at home for many reasons. Kids who run away require attention and care, not to be shrugged off like cops so love to do.
@cartooncritique66252 жыл бұрын
Not that I disagree, but I think a large part of it has to do with resources and man-power. With how often kids tend to run away or blow off school and their parents the cops would constantly be searching for wayward children taking men and resources away from other more dire situations like robberies, s3xual assaults, murder, and the like; hence why they tend to wait at least 24 hours before investigating.
@BoxOKittens2 жыл бұрын
@@cartooncritique6625 I would give more respect to the whole 'resources' thing if there weren't so many videos out there of cops stopping everything to harass someone who flipped them the bird.

@@BoxOKittens this so much. I more so think it sadly has to do With not taking teenage mental health seriously. "Oh they're just kids, they're like that. They'll be back when they realize they can'ttake care of themselves" Or even just assuming that kids running away is normal because they did it in their day and turned out just fine.
@Sophia-vk5bq Жыл бұрын
Kids are in the most danger when this happens. The brain isn't fully developed until 25, someone under 18 has limited access to transportation and other resources, and they usually also don't have the life skills to know a bad situation and how to get out of one. Fuck the cops for not taking this seriously right away.

"A teenage girl has been gone for a few hours, she probably ran off, it's not an emergency yet." They never learn huh. ADULT women get targeted every day inside their own HOMES and you're telling me a teenage girl out alone at night after being missing for hours isn't an emergency? Totally. She could be held somewhere and this could be life and death, but sure, teenagers run off sometimes so she's probably fine...Morons.

Idk why they do this, I hear so many stories like this... there was one case in the 1920s where a boy went missing. The cops brought this random kid who claimed to be the missing kid. The mom was like that is not my son and the W law enforcement were like sure it is.

@@squirrelthegamer8483 that doesn't mean some of these things shouldn't be things taken more seriously, especially if it is out of character for them. One thing that people like Pig doesn’t understand is that the police gets loads of missing teenager reports all the time and most of the time, it turns out that either they went off on a bender with some friends or staying with another parent during some marital disputes. Yeah it sucks that they don’t act as fast as we’d want with things but you gotta weigh the options. Expend a lot of manpower and resources heeding to all missing teen reports on stuff that’ll most likely solve themselves by the next day or make a note of all of them but send officers on the more suspicious and concerning reports and wait to see if the more common stuff warrants field work. I know, it sucks but police aren’t in infinite supply and teens are dumb and rebellious. Just, if you’re a parent, try to keep healthy and honest relationship with you child so they don’t run off causing you panic. We all gotta pitch in to stay safe.
