OKay, so the doorknob thing actually happened to me about a year ago. I was about to leave the bathroom after using the toilet, and then soon as I grabbed the doorknob it exploded and fell to pieces. No way out and no way in, alone with and the door opening inward, so unable to even kick the door in. My room was also too far away and bedroom closed so nobody could hear me shouting for help. However, in that situation, you are not actually trapped, you just need to FULLY break the knob. Once one half goes you cannot get out or in. The ONLY way out or in, is to literally fidget out what is left of the other side of the knob, till it falls out. And you can do this easily by hand; once the other half falls out, you grab the now empty hole and yank the door open. Just some future advice for you all.

I had to replace my door knob once and I realized how fragile a door is. Just like you said you just break the rest of the knob and the part that latches onto the frame falls apart too. Most interior doors you can just break the latch, the hinges, and/or the door frame entirely by just front kicking it a few times. Her mistake was working on the wall when the door should have been the first thing. But then we weren't there, it could have been a really strong door I guess.

That story is so confusing. I don't blame the neighbor, because they neighbor just told him where to go to check. The manager: 1. Shouldn't have let him down there alone to begin with 2. After he did let him go down there alone, probably should have verified where he was a little bit sooner than several HOURS There were so many things that should have happened. Call the cell phone and verify that it's in the garbage to begin with. Determine if it's possible to safely retrieve it. If it somehow is possible, make sure that all of the garbage chutes are blocked off beforehand so that nobody is dropping anything down while it's being retrieved. Have someone ready to disabled the automatic compactor, etc. It's a bit much for retrieving a phone, obviously. Roger clearly didn't know that this was the situation he was walking into. But the Manager massively dropped the ball.

to be fair you really shouldn’t have automatic compactors without safety cut offs

@@mordecusthedestroyer3414 My guess would be that the safety cut off is on the outside because they expect two people to be there at all times. It mentioned that no one is ever supposed to go in there alone, and the safety shut-offs are probably why. Considering positioning, I wonder if it would be impossible to have one inside like that, because you'd have some sort of panel where trash it constantly being pushed against it. One inside would probably constantly being pressed and pushed. But it would be good if there was some sort of ladder or something. With a big sign "Emergency exit only" so people wouldn't think it was there for them to be able to climb in. I'm wondering if it was possible to get on top of the compactor part, or was it too difficult? Because there was an area with an opening up top, would it be possible to get on top of it where that opening was and then let it move underneath you?

And people always get mad like "mind your business" and "this is my house I can scream if I want to" but I'm gonna be nosy, if you're in your backyard screaming like someone is killing you, I might call 911, I'm not taking a chance. Sometimes you have to not care if people hate you and think you're nosy, call someone about the random banging in the vacation bungalow people pay for peace and quiet within, there's probably a reason for it and not just tomfoolery, come on now. Just callous negligence, it's okay to complain about things, you might actually save a life if you don't just put up with your neighbors when they're being uncharacteristically noisy. The one time I heard my neighbor's kid scream and knew it felt wrong but decided to ignore it, it turned out the dog bit the hell out of her, and I should have called out to someone and been nosy, seeming rude is nothing to letting someone get hurt or die or go without help because you're anxious to be yelled at, even EMTs get attacked and yelled at by people whose lives they're saving, sometimes you just have to do something because it's right and you're worried, even if it inconveniences someone for a few minutes.

ok, so I understand people were upset with the neighbor in the last story, but it really wasn't his fault that happened to the poor guy. What happened was awful, but it was the manager's fault for being too much of an ignorant asshat to go with Roger into the trash room. He knew what was in there, and even if he didn't know he was legally blind, he should've had the brain cells to say, "Let me take my phone with me while I go with you, just in case they call so I don't miss it but also so I can keep an eye on you." It really wasn't the neighbors fault. He probably thought that the manager would help him find it (because they knew he was supposed to accompany tenants to the room anyway). It's just a horrible situation that could've easily been avoided, and the neighbor probably DOES feel really bad for not helping him himself, but he had NO obligation to do so. He might've been really busy, and since he offered a solution to his problem, he probably thought he had done his part. So stop shaming the guy, honestly. Disabled people more often than not don’t show any signs outwardly of disability and a lot of people are not forthcoming about being disabled. It’s likely the neighbor and manager didn’t know he was blind or it slipped their minds.

Okay just saying to be considered legally blind you don't technically have to be actually blind you just have to have really bad eyesight to the point where it's considered somewhat of a disability

Don't do it for the gram, fam. Like hell, you'd probably have less risk with a literal gram of... i dunno, whatever cool kid drug people do. Nevermind, don't do drugs, and don't do it for the gram.
