Hi Sharon, we do not have templates for this... it is a great idea and I will pass it along for a future video idea. Thank you!

Could you sew these by hand if you use something like an awl to make holes before sewing? (like you do with thick hand sewn leather) I'd like to make my own tack but I don't have a heavy duty sewing machine and I suspect there will be a long time before I have the money nor space for one 😅

That is a great question! We have not seen an example of a sewn-by-hand bridle, but it could be possible with the right tools and technique. I think an awl might not be the best way to make the holes for the stitches however. I would try to use something that could put a tiny slit instead of a roundish hole. Also, I recommend using the thinner STANDARD Beta instead of the SUPERHEAVY which has much more coating to sew through. I hope some of this helps and please let us know if you had success or if anyone else had tips:)

+BioThane Coated Webbing Thanks for such a quick reply. Yes this helps tremendously! Is the thinner beta still strong enough for the wear and their of horsetack? Also, what kind of thread would you recommend?
@BioThaneCoatedWebbing6 жыл бұрын
The thinner Beta is fine for tack. It is really a preference thing for most folks. Some prefer the thicker Superheavy and others use Standard. I will say they usually sew a two-ply many times with the Standard. Also, have you checked out the FAQ sewing page? www.biothane.us/faqs/sewing-tips/ This may give you some more answers!! Thanks for your support!

you can use a tool to make holes then sew with a needle and thread.

How do you skive the Biothane?
@BioThaneCoatedWebbing4 жыл бұрын
You can skive it with an electric skiver or some folks have even used a hand skiver like one used for leather. You want to just skive it on the end about half to 3/4' down to a fine pointed edge. Skivers will shave right through the webbing and coating! Thanks for asking and perhaps we will do a demonstration video on this topic!

This looks very gorgeous and leather like and soft but the collar i own is so plastic looking and feeling. Are there different types and different ways of making it is that why this is. I've never seen any other biothane to know other than online.

Hi and thanks for the comment. The products that look like leather and are the softest are the Beta products. You can see them on our website here www.biothane.us/applications/animal/materials/beta-520-tack/ Let me know if this help or if you have other questions. Thanks! Aaron

Do the ends and punch holes need to be heat sealed??
@BioThaneCoatedWebbing4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question which we will soon be addressing this in a video! No, you do not need to seal the ends or the holes. Some folks like to heat seal them as that is part of their style and design. Make sure you have very sharp clean punches and this will eliminate fibers and frays. Hope this helps and thanks again!

@@BioThaneCoatedWebbing Good to know. I bought a horse harness, and the traces have slots in them that are reinforced with some kind of thick stiff plastic material. I wondered if those were necessary, òr if biothane is strong enough by itself ?? I'd like to remove those plastic looking things, since they make it difficult to attach the traces to the singletree.
@BioThaneCoatedWebbing4 жыл бұрын
@@spartaeus I am pretty sure those stiffeners on the traces are functional as well as the makers design preference. They do add some reinforcement but I have seen traces made with BIO that do not have the stiff material.
