I really like your voice, I think I could listen to it all day. I really enjoyed this series. I intend to use it to build several pol bridles since I need straight reins, draw reins, bridle, browband, cavesson, standing martingale, breastplate, and over girths for at least 3 horses. Thanks for some of the most useful videos online.

Hi, found you fascinating to watch and listen to. I fancy having a go at making a bridle, so can I be cheeky and ask what tools you use. I have a rugwash and repair business in Denmark and fancy having a play with leather. I have an account with Abbey England so will source everything from them. Many thanks.

Hi Angela glad you like the video 😁 I have another video on the tools I use that lists pretty much everything I use kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJuwopRrfsp7rNE you can get these tools from Abbey and your local hardware store for the less specialist tools. There is also Laederiet that I think is in Denmark who do tools, fittings and leather also. If you need anymore info let me know. Jo

It depends on what the strap width is, I have a set from 3/8" to 1 1/2" wide.

Could you offer any advice on oblong punches for the buckles. Ive tried some that are pretty poor at punching 3.5mm bridle leather. Could you offer any advice on brands/manufacturers or type of steel for the punch (forged etc.)?
@JHLeather
@JHLeather 2 жыл бұрын
It's likely that you need to sharpen the ones you have. Most tools don't arrive sharp as it is quite time consuming for the manufacturer to sharpen each tool. I have a video which shows how to do this.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3atfZ6oaZeWras

Great video! Can I ask how thick is this leather? I've been using about 3mm but doubling it up and stitching together as it's just too thin I think. Think the next roll of leather I get should be about 4mm? Thank you! :)
@JHLeather

Hello +Lisa Jayne Williams for bridles I use 3.5-4mm bridle butt so a 4mm hide will be fine as long as it's a butt.

What do you do with the back side of the leather? I have some leather for making a bridle but one side is quite rough, do you leave it like that?

Hey Emma, I use a finished bridle butt for all my leatherwork so that's got a nice tight flesh and is finished at the tannery. You could use some acrylic resolene from fieblings on the back if it's fluffy, I use it on the edges of my leather after I've done my finishing touches. Hope that helps. Jo
@emmac5442
@emmac5442 5 жыл бұрын
@@JHLeather Thank you very much, do you just use the resolene on the edges or do you also burnish the edges with an edge slicker? Also do you use any other finish on the leather to protect it and polish it?
@JHLeather
@JHLeather 5 жыл бұрын
I stain and polish the edges first then put the resolene on at the end, it waterproofs it a bit and makes the edges even shinier.

@@JHLeather could i use tatton bridle butt 3,5-4 mm for bridles and head collars? Im very new to the leather crafting and its not really for a buisiness i just think that i’d really enjoy making bridles and head collars etc!
@JHLeather
@JHLeather 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah they would be fine for bridles and head collars. The reason for using the bridle butt is that it is the strongest cut of hide which is a must for bridle work.
