Podcast is Called : ASN Humans Are Space Orcs , HFY and other stories
--------------
This Story is Classified as HFY or Humanity Feck, Yea , but what does the Mean?
-------------
HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.
-------------
Taken from the FAQ of the r/HFY subreddit.
Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

You definitely go nose blind after a time. Those of us from the Submarine fleet can come off the boat after a month and smell awful but we hardly notice if at all. Those of us that pay attention are attuned to the small vent blowing air into our racks. When that quiet noise stops, we wake up instantly. We are out of the rack and into uniform before the call for Engineering department to report Aft. There is a slight rotational torque on the boat as the propeller pushes the boat and you can feel it most of the time. When you don't feel it or you REALLY feel it... "awe crap, do I get to roll over or am I about to run to a different location."
@jgkitarel
@jgkitarel 6 ай бұрын
The main thing is, this all comes from experience and spending time on the boat, as each one has its own character to it. This also applies to surface ships, any land vehicle, and machinery you work with regularly. With time, you know when something is going wrong just by the sounds it makes or how it handles/feels, and can actually identify many of them. People think sight is their primarily used sense, but someone experienced relies far more on touch, hearing, or smell than on simple sight to identify if a problem is happening. And with time and experience, you can even tell what many of those problems are. And I find it an interesting comparison that the POV character makes, that the bioships have their own drawbacks that aren't apparent when one is used to them when compared to human "dead" ships. I wouldn't be surprised if they have advantages over human ships as well, but the fact that the POV character noted things that most would consider... unimportant at first glance as having improved things for him. Heh, hard to imagine that spending time on a "dead" ship would improve his mating prospects because the lack of humidity made his fur be that much more attractive to the ladies, isn't it my good fellow?
@padalan2504
@padalan2504 6 ай бұрын
I think plantoid ships would be alright as well, no shifting beds, no worries about footwear, no problems with fleshy sweaty smells, perhaps a little humidity. But I can imagine this huge flying forest to be far less disturbing and a lot quieter than the fleshy ships.

@@therewillbefire1833 If the ship is more biomechanical, like the xenomorph design or the bioship from Farscape, then it could perhaps also be agreeable. Yeah, for all they're a staple of sci-fi ( and supposedly a sign of being really advanced ) this really puts into perspective what being in a bioship would likely be like.
@Redmeer411
@Redmeer411 5 ай бұрын
I am not so sure this sounds way more fundamentalist and purist for pure biological entities like the aliens are basically symbiotes or parasites to another organism. Most Sci-fi blend the concept of Organic and in organic materials when speaking of bioships. My favorite depiction of a true biological ship would be the Leviathans from Farscape. Where they are biological entities and both sentient and sapient life forms that have the ability to ingest metals and other inorganic material and then use it to direct the growth of a metallic carapace, so they have flesh but protect it from the vacuum and conditions of space with this carapace. During their captivity and enslavement at the hands of the peacekeepers, technology was then discovered that could purposefully direct the growth of this carapace anywhere and by using this they could essentially have the ships grow an interior section with this carapace to act as the crews living area. To me that is a far better depiction of what most advanced species would do to make it a livable environment for themselves, blend both technology and biological entity, creating a sort of space based cyborg.

But our ships of steel and ceramic are living things. Everyone who ever travels aboard leaves an imprint, a tiny sliver of soul, that turns cold steel into something alive. If you don't believe me, ask the engineers, those technopriests who can hear the ship whispering in their ears.

It would look dead, almost as dead as the "passengers and crew" of this stories bioship looks like but in reverse. Natural fur would be infused with stiff metal and inorganically controlled for safety, and regulation modules would be both visual and auditory. Also, sensors would be companions to the passengers and more plentiful than eyes, and a good bit more.

@Josh-iv2bw I think the reason most people don't use si is because it could stand for multiple things, for instance instead of simulated intelligence I would say virtual intelligence or vi, but vi also gets confused with ai all the time. For instance what most people keep calling ai that we have now, it's actually more like vi. Part of the problem is that there aren't really any set names or terms. And some people use some terms wrongly as well, kind of like when people say sentient instead of sapient, almost every animal on the planet as well as some plants are sentient, but very few are sapient.

This is why you go with a cyborg ship. Or a worldship. Combine the best of both or all worlds. Dehumidify the air to a balance between not drying out the ship's membranes and the needs of the crew, and definitely clean the air. But if you have to choose, yeah, I'd go with metal, plastic and ceramic. And, I've used that kind of bed in long-term care facilities. I understand and appreciate the necessity of it in that situation, but in a personal bed/bunk? NO THANK YOU.

We have always felt our ships had a life of their own, a soul. We name our ships and call them her or him. Perhaps one day we may make ships as big as planets with life on the inside rather then on the outside. Forests, wildlife habitats, oceans, lakes, rivers, farm land, towns and cities but on the inside as we navigate the huge planetoid through space, mining what we need from particles, and asteroids we encounter. LOL, alien ambassador finds that being on a human ship is like having a beauty treatment.

Despite the microphone possibly being at the level of a potato, it did it's job well. I'm no audophile, but had you not said anything I don't think I'd known you were using a backups backup replacements microphone.

been here for quite a long while, can't believe it's only 100k, keep it up and you'll grow consistently and it'll be stable growth. You're an excellent narrator and I love the genre

I don’t think I would mind a plant based bioship, but an animal based one, no thanks. Wood, metal, and stone, no exceptions.

No worries about the microphone. It worked fine. The occasional side to side effect just added to the story.!

As someone who loves this time of video, I would just like to tell you hearing a real voice that is a little off is way better than an AI voice. Just keep doing your thing.
