I love Augustus Sinclair's personality. He has a southern accent and mindset commonly associated with dim ,unintelligent, or sleazy American citizens that commonly use others or are useless by themselves, but Sinclair pretty much destroys that misconception through his ingenuity, intelligence, and wiliness in dealing with business, science, and people that maintains itself while he gleefully indulges in his Southern salesman persona. Plus he even has a reason for being the way he is because he didn't want to be another "altruistic sap" like his grandfather who died forgotten and pointlessly.

Diego Chamberlain No. No one is supposed to be anything really. That's a stereotype that is just present. The whole "Country Bumpkin" stereotype. SInclair negates the stereotype completely.

Tbh, I always pegged Sinclair's accent as an example of a trope entirely separate from the bumpkin: the southern gentleman. Still, as a conniving son-of-a-gun, he does break the mold there too. Often southern gents archetypes are tyrants themselves, either Texas mansion barons owning a couple of football teams, or old money heirs to old plantation land. AKA holdover archetypes of the kinds of people who either made their fortunes through oil or slavery. But Sinclair is the indepent. He owns companies, but unlike Atlas or Lamb, he doesn't have armies to do his dirty work for him. Unlike Ryan or Fontaine, he doesn't need to amass his own empire, because he gets by just fine by exploiting the empires of others. A real interesting character, that's for sure.

Sinclair was born in Panama. He then moved to Georgia to strike rich. That should explain where his accent comes from.

I beat the game for the first time last night and he was probably one of my favourite characters. I hated the bit where you had to kill him. What a horrible fate to be turned into a Big Daddy and gradually lose your free will.
