He didn't force himself to forget. Like with the original Booker, traveling to a universe where he doesn't belong forced Comstock's brain to manufacture memories in an effort to fit into the new reality. The nosebleeds happen whenever Booker/Comstock remembers anything from the other universe. The only people who can carry memories from other universes with them are those that can travel freely through the multiverse (i.e. Elizabeth and the Luteces).

@@shirororororr That was before the Luteces became scattered across the multiverse. Rosalind's audio diaries suggest that Robert nearly died as he was hemorrhaging for days. She only saved him by giving him a blood transfusion from her own veins (knowing they were identical she knew they'd be a match). It was after that she realized that music seemed to help with the "cognitive dissonance" issue. My guess is that Robert had such a strong reaction because he had stepped into a new universe in close proximity to his female counterpart. Once the two of them became timelords, neither Lutece would have that problem again. Elizabeth doesn't bleed because of her abilities. But anyone else who goes universe hopping will experience those problems to a certain degree.

@ccecereal8 жыл бұрын
+Dominik Polák you can still get his message in that soup of words.
@surnusan8 жыл бұрын
+Dominik Polák Alright alright, let me try this again. I was saying that the Elizabeth who yelled at Comstock could be the Elizabeth who guide booker to take the baby back, or the Elizabeth who grew up in the tower at Colombia and haven't met Booker yet. Since we know that there's two possible Elizabeth. Now, let's put the information we know to the scene. As we know from the game that Comstock tried to take baby Anna from Booker because Comstock didn't have a child, but from the scene we saw there was Elizabeth standing and yelling to Comstock, at this point there shouldn't be any Elizabeth yet, unless she's the Elizabeth who guide Booker to take his baby back. I already found the answer of my question. That Elizabeth was the one who guide Booker, and her act of yelling at Comstock made him surprised which caused him to let go baby Anna, which unfortunately cut off the baby's head. I know this is a long explanation, but I tried my best to make you understand my point.
@matheusribeiro85238 жыл бұрын
+Surya Nusantara But it stills make no sense since there would be no point in Comstock re-stoling a baby when he already "have" a Elizabeth at his side. I think this scene is happening when Elizabeth gained her all powers after torture in the main game. When it happent, she gained power to reach all universes and timelines. At that moment, she tried everything to change things. This scene that she is yelling at Comstock was one of this attempts but ended up with death of baby Anna. She saw all possibilities we didnt see at game too and she ended up deciding to kill Booker before he became Comstock. Because she tried other ways but they didnt work. And all these happent when the Syphon(that tower she was held)destroyed. Burial at Sea is just a result of one of these attempts of Elizabeth.

I agree with nearly everything you've said about this episode, but I think I have some ideas that may fill in the holes people have been finding: First of all, I'm content with there being one Elizabeth left at the end of Bioshock Infinite because, considering the infinite number of constants and variables noted in the original game, it would make sense for at least one universe to exist after the last scene for reasons we do not know. Exactly how is open to interpretation, of course. (I'm personally guessing that Booker/Comstock somehow survived the drowning in one universe, but that's me.) Anyway, I believe that the last Elizabeth is still intent upon destroying all chances for the continuation of these constants and variables and has attempted to stop the cycle in this last story (Burial at Sea) by first trying to stop Comstock from taking Anna and then by finding Comstock in Rapture. When we see Elizabeth on Comstock's side of the tear, she is there only to try to stop Comstock for the first time. If Comstock had her there by his doing, he wouldn't be trying to steal Anna away again because he'd already have a daughter. Elizabeth is there without Comstock realizing who she is. Her attempt to stop Comstock in the realm of Columbia is successful, but now she must stop him in Rapture. Side Note: This timeline would explain why Comstock has the AD on his hand in Burial at Sea. Much like Booker felt guilty for losing Anna and symbolically branded himself on his side of the tear, Comstock felt guilty after accidently decapitating -- and thereby losing -- Anna and symbolically branded himself (hello, constants and variables!). Only after wallowing in his guilt did he again turn to the Luteces to seek Rapture. As for the discoloration of the AD in Burial at Sea, Comstock's brand is older and has become more scar tissue than flesh wound. I'd say that Booker's AD in Bioshock Infinite was still red because it had been a fresher brand. Thus, Comstock's brand and doll's head serve as his last two reminders of the daughter he lost. This is when Elizabeth arrives in Rapture to successfully stop Comstock for the last time. I do not see her actions in Burial at Sea: Episode One as revenge because that would be out of character for her. She is extremely forgiving and benevolent throughout the Infinite story. I think she was simply acting the way Rapture people do (no one as selfless as Elizabeth lives in Rapture and it would be a red flag if she were herself) to gain Comstock's trust and ultimately end the cycle of Booker-Comstock for good.

My take is, this Elisabeth erased her own time lines by drowning her father before he could conceive her, thus she "died" along with her alternates selves; Or they just returned to their respective timelines and all she did was create a new reality where neither Booker nor she exists... wich is the hypothesis I like best. I believe the Lutece outside the lighthouses can see/know every alternate versions of themselves at the same time... if that means anything :D So, this version of her was able to somehow, like the Luteces, exist outside the Bioshock time stream in the lighthouses world, use her powers to cross over to other alternate realities, obtaining also a tear-related version of omniscience: knowledge of many different possible realities and how to get there. At some point, not satisfied with a universe where she doesn't exist, Elisabeth spent some time after Infinite storyline to hunt down any other surviving versions of Comstock she couldn't erase, hunting them in a number of alternate universes, kind of cleaning house in order to create a "happy" alternate reality for herself. At some point she finaly meets Rapture's "last Comstock". This Comstock in the "Buried at sea" reality can exist because in it, baby Elisabeth died (because of our grown Elisabeth earlier time walking and interfering with events in her attempt to create a version of her ideal reality), Columbia is still founded but "Tower Elisabeth" is not there to erase pre-baptism Dewitt via Infinite's walkthrough; wich is the reason why this Comstock can live to flee to Rapture and make himself forget his sinful past using the help of his version of the Lutece... Haunted by her baby self dying partly because of her own intervention - and with the ability to live it directly (talk about a trauma!) she then hunts down her Last Comstock in a revenge / atonement quest... and selfishly let young Sally get in harm's way, wich she later came to regret. (because there being an infinite number of constants among all the variables, she would never be able to erase all Comstocks in existence, qed). AAAAAAnd I will stop there before going crazy or getting a brain freeze :D
@mancamiatipoola4 жыл бұрын
I agree with almost everything you said, frend. Except the last paragraph. What we see in Burial at Sea is an Elizabeth that is much more cynical, snidy and dark. Much more cold than the innocent Elizabeth from Infinite. It is an Elizabeth that has been through a lot and her decisions from her extensive multiverse travels weigh heavily upon her. She is also much more secretive telling Booker only parts of the truth in order to goad him forward. I believe this is the Elizabeth that was traumatized by seeing her younger self from this (Burial at Sea) universe being decapitated and she realized it was partly because of her temporal interference. Thus, this death and probably many other events from her travels have weighed heavily upon her conscience and eventually it affected her sanity. She eventually decides to take revenge on Comstock in order to shift the blame from herself onto him entirely. I think that she tried many times to go back and alter that event (the kidnapping) and every time it ended in failure. In all those hundreds of attempts to fix her mistake her sanity must have started slipping. She did not realize the ultimate crushing truth: she was the variable in that event. She had to take herself out of that equation entirely in order to prevent it. She had to find out why she was still around and remove herself from existence as well. I think that would have closed her loop for good. There was a similar situation in the movie The Butterfly Effect and the way he resolves it in the end was the best way.

+Connor “Dom” Mitchell Nope, she didn't. The siphon in the tower suppressed her powers, not allowing her to create tears at her will. She could open any visible tears, but couldn't use her powers to their maximum potential. 5:36 No, even though most of the main game (everything that happens in Columbia) is in 1912, when they go to Rapture at the end, they also traveled in time to after/during Bioshock 1. You know that, because the zone in Rapute that you're transported to is the same place where Jack got his first plasmid and if you go to Eden's Garden, where it was, it is not there anymore. "Booker" on episode 2 also mentions that they went to 1960. Also, but this one is just a theory, Song Bird's death can be heard during Bioshock 1. Booker doesn't bleed from his nose because he is a dead man, it is a secondary effect due to changing universe, and happens when he tries to recall memories. And on that that note, that's how he forgot about what happened, not because he forced himself to forget. Remember that the same happens in the main game, he forgets about is past as the travels to the other universe.
@ashtraydelicacy57738 жыл бұрын
+MrBX5 That scene in Rapture was always a bit weird. The plasmid is gone from the Eden's Garden, meaning that Jack would've taken it. @mrknockknock19 жыл бұрын
+Mitchiemo HD In Bioshock Infinite, the Booker Dewitt we play as is a man who sold his daughter to pay off his gambling debts. He uses a knife to brand a scar of 'AD' representing his daughter's name, "Anna Dewitt" on his hand. In Burial At Sea - Episode One, the Booker Dewitt we play as is formerly Comstock. In his flashback, we all clearly saw that he tried to buy and forcefully take baby Anna from an alternate version of himself, and unintentionally ended up decapitating her. He was guilty about killing an innocent little baby, not to mention, it was his own child in a different world. So, he was bound by guilt. So, after he accidentally killed the baby, and before he went to Rapture, he was at Columbia for a fairly long period of time. At some point of time between those events, he tattooed the initials because the guilt ate him up. So, Booker having the AD brand is a constant. But the events that make Booker do it, and the way in which he chooses to brand the symbols, are variables.
@MrBX58 жыл бұрын
+Mitchiemo HD I think that the color was just to diferenciate this Comstock from the Booker on the main game. The reason for the tattoo, is (kinda) the same, they both lost Anna/Elisabeth. BTW, on the main game, it wasn't a tattoo, but self-inflicted cuts that turned into scars.

Taking that into consideration there are probably variants of Booker and Comstock. You might even find a universe where Booker is the ultimate scum bag and Comstock was all about peace and love. Might as well snuff out baby Booker in his crib just to be on the safe side.

Azraelseraphim Comstock being the crazy scum bag was a constant. He no longer exists this far in the story. Booker was always the man who regretted selling anna.

One question, @ 18:00 WHY and HOW was Elizabeth beside Comstock? Was she the last surviving Elizabeth from the black screen where booker was drowned, trying to travel to all the other universes righting the wrongs? And is the Elizabeth in This DLC the same Elizabeth @ 18:03 the one in columbia? Other than this, everything was pretty clear.

+JV2017gameplay But she killed Booker before the baptism so that there are no Comstocks, so how could that last surviving Elizabeth be there next to Comstock at 19:07 - it just doesn't make any sense to me...
@letsbusk668 жыл бұрын
I was asking myself the same question as this guy (asking 'WHY and HOW'). As an earlier commenter pointed out, perhaps she (the single possible Elizabeth at the end of Infinite) opened up a tear to try and warn this universe (Burial At Sea 1)'s Comstock about the imminent beheading, which she then failed to stop. I think that both Infinite and B.a.S.' Elizabeths have to be the same Elizabeth, because she's the only possible Elizabeth following Booker/Comstock's drowning... But alas, I'm still confused, as that means that the baby Anna in Infinite's final scene has to therefore be the Elizabeth that a forgetful Booker saves in Infinite's gameplay, right? Which doesn't add up/just hurts my head...Or is history re-written through Elizabeth's/Booker's actions somehow, meaning the sold Anna ('repay the debt') rewrote history to allow herself NOT to be sold? ARGH!!

I havent played Episode 2 yet, so please do not spoil it for me. I do have one question about Episode 1: In the end when we are seeing Comstock stealing Anna from Booker (from Comstocks perspective), and Elizabeth is standing right next to him.. Why is she there? If Anna = Elizabeth and she is there with Comstock, why was he stealing her again?
@deathkuramoto9 жыл бұрын
She is trying to stop Comstock from successfully pulling Anna through so as to ensure that Booker will be able to keep his daughter and neither of them will have to undergo the suffering that she did with her Booker.
@AnthonyBrinias9 жыл бұрын
H[lambda]LF That's a really good question. I always assumed Bioshock Infinite took place several years after the baby was stolen, and so she grew up to become Elizabeth.
@mrknockknock19 жыл бұрын
+H[lambda]LF If you're thinking that Comstock stole Anna, raised her, and is trying to steal her again, you're misunderstanding the entire thing completely. At the end of Infinite, there is one Elizabeth that is not wiped out of existence. That same Elizabeth opens up a door to that timeline moments after drowning Booker. She opens up a door to that timeline where Comstock and Booker are fighting over baby Anna. She does hate Comstock, but thinks that if she can reason Comstock into not kidnapping her, she won't have to spill more blood. So, she requests Comstock to let go of baby Anna while Booker and Comstock are fighting over her. At that point, the situation was so tense that Comstock was unable to think much. He didn't know who Elizabeth was. All he knew was that he was fighting over baby Anna, the Booker on the other side of the tear is trying hard to get her back, the Luteces are trying to keep the tear open, and this weird woman opened up a tear and came outta nowhere, requesting him to let go. And he doesn't get to think much, so he does let go of Anna, only to see her get decapitated due to the early closing of tear. In other words, we can say that Elizabeth caused that. She pretty much made the situation more tense, and sort of distracted Comstock, leading to this horrible accident. But, Comstock is the one who bears the guilt as he attempted to kidnap the innocent baby in the first place. So I guess it pretty much answers your questions. The Elizabeth that is there is a different Elizabeth. Comstock is still pretty young, and is NOT stealing baby Anna for the second time. There are no instances where Comstock steals baby Anna twice. Also, we see it from Comstock's perspective because in Episode 1, we are Comstock. Although he loses all memories related to his Comstock persona, Columbia and this horrible event, he's not exactly a pure Booker DeWitt. He is a Comstock, who's brain uses his old memories to create new ones, thus making him think that he is Booker DeWitt. So, Elizabeth recreates a similar event in order to set his erased memories into motion. Then, Booker realizes that he is actually Comstock, and he had accidentally decapitated Anna. I hope that answers your questions.

+mrknockknock1 why isn't it the same Elizabeth ?
@mrknockknock19 жыл бұрын
Jeff James Isn't who the same Elizabeth? To be honest, none of them are same. 1. Elizabeth that we played with as Booker in Columbia dies at the end of Episode 1. The same bouncer that kills Booker/Comstock kills Elizabeth. 2. Baby Anna is different from this Elizabeth, although they're the same person, but speaking in terms of the multiverse, they are two different version of the same person in two different worlds. Get the idea?

I really like your explanations:) The only thing I think you may have misinterpreted (as we all did probably) is that this Elizabeth is the last one or that the Booker drowned by those Elizabeths is the last one. Elizabeth at the baptism is not the one we know from Columbia, u can proove it by watching your Infinite ending explanation video, at 13:10. In that video Elizabeth at the lighthouse (our E from Columbia) is wearing that necklace with a bird broche Booker picked for her, but when Booker goes through the door and enters the baptism scene THAT El doesn't have the necklace, and NONE of those other Els that appear have that necklace. Our El was never at the baptism! If she were she would think Comstock doesn't exist anymore and would never go to find him in Rapture (like she did in this dlc). Also in this dlc we see another Comstock AND another Booker whose doughter Comstock killed when trying to steal her through the Tear. Which means there is another Booker that survived the baptism, that didn't get drowned. Elizabeths dissapearing at the end of Infinite are only those Elizabeths that were effected by that Bookers drowning.
@danielkong676710 жыл бұрын
Pretty solid explaination, but however then you would also have to aknowledge that the hole point of the first game (kill every comstock) was for nothig and if one comstock got through the risk is more of them did, making the events in Bio-infinite even more pointless from a story perspective. Theres just got to be another explaination for the comstock in burial at sea ...

I wondered the same thing here. I went through the comments and didn't seem to find any answers. Its I think something only JV2017gameplay can explain. My guess is that he meant to say after the syphon is destroyed and she sees everything she was leading him on about what she knew? I don't think she knew since day one that Booker needed to be drowned at the baptism. Again, I have no idea really, just a shot in the dark.

The main problem with all these stories is the multi universe theory. The ending of Infinite doesn't make much sense because you die in only that universe, it would not effect any of the other universes in the slightest. Same with the DLC. Comstock and Eliz can do what they want, but how could it possibly carry over to other universes? Also why would the other universes follow a very similar or same timeline with similar characters? Why would Eliz be the same person with slightly different hair and dresses? Kinda cheesy. The problem is you can't mix the 2 kinds of time travel, you can't mix multiverse with single timeline it just doesn't work. This game does this to force an ending. Great game though.

Randy Parsons Think of it like this, from bookers birth there was two things that could happen and then two things for those two things and so on and so forth until you have a big tree with branches going on for the millions and millions and millions of possibilities now the creation of Comstock was from a particular branch and in order to stop him permanently they just cut off that branch ''booker drowning there during that baptism'' because all comstocks originate from that choice so to stop him there is to stop him everywhere
@maxijonson9 жыл бұрын
Randy Parsons Constants and variables. Killing DeWitt or Comstock just like that in other universes would just be a variable, as they are not the constants of the story, and therefore, they would just be dead and other universes would keep on going and creating more universes because of the other variables that they make, but Eliz's goal was to stop Comstock from existing in EVERY universes, and destroying variables wouldn't do nothing, you have to destroy the constant and the constant in infinite is the baptism, because that is where comes out either DeWitt or Comstock. So Eliz had to lie to him all the time because he probably wouldn't have had agreed to let himself get killed, until he sees it for himself at the end and understands he is both, no matter what. Killing him at the baptism puts an end to the constant as nothing comes out of it if he is dead.

i think that at the end of infinite where anna's in her crib with booker is the EXACT SAME universe where anna got her head cut off. then, the mainstream elizabeth (the one we go all throughout infinite AND the one that constantly told Comstock to let go of the baby) traveled to the universe that the Lutece twins sent Comstock and thus leading to the events of Burial at Sea

But if there's an infinite amount of universes, there cannot be a specific number of something. There's an infinite number of everything. For every choice someone makes, for every step some one takes, they create another infinite amount of universes. Creating a new infinite amount of Elizabeths, Bookers, Comstocks, and so on. If you take a step forward you create a new universe for every possible location you can put your foot down. Even bit less than an atom in difference. There's an infinite amount of universes where Booker lost his pinky. As that is a possibility. There's an infinite amount of universes where Booker never went to Wounded Knee. There's an infinite amount of universes where Booker never sold Anna in the first place. *****

Ok so let's start a small discussion here. This is what I got from this video. Booker Dewitt cannot exist in Burial at Sea because Elizabeth killed all instances of booker that chose to be reborn as comstock. But what strikes me as odd is... If she killed all Comstocks shouldn't it be that a Comstock can never exist in Burial at Sea?

My take is, this Elisabeth erased her own time lines by drowning her father before he could conceive her, thus she "died" along with her alternates selves; Or they just returned to their respective timelines and all she did was create a new reality where neither Booker nor she exists... wich is the hypothesis I like best. I believe the Lutece outside the lighthouses can see/know every alternate versions of themselves at the same time... if that means anything :D So, this version of Elisabeth was able to somehow, like the Luteces, exist outside the Bioshock time stream in the lighthouses world, use her powers to cross over to other alternate realities, obtaining also a tear-related version of omniscience: knowledge of many different possible realities and how to get there. This Comstock in the "Buried at sea" reality can exist because in it, baby Elisabeth died (because of our grown Elisabeth earlier time walking and interfering with events in her attempt to stop the kidnapping), so Columbia is still founded but "Tower Elisabeth" is not there to erase pre-baptism Dewitt via Infinite's walkthrough; wich is the reason why this Comstock can live and flee to future Rapture and make himself forget his sinful past using the help of his version of the Lutece... Haunted by her baby self dying partly because of her own intervention - and with the ability to experience/remember it directly (talk about a trauma!) she then hunts down her Last Comstock in a revenge/atonement quest... and selfishly let young Sally get in harm's way, wich she later came to regret. Because there being an infinite number of constants among infinite variables, she would never be able to erase all Comstocks in existence, so "Last Comstock" was more likely refering to her last attempt at making things right, not the real "Last" Comstock in existence... AAAAAAnd I will stop there before going crazy or getting a brain freeze :D

I like your explanations JV! In terms of the ideas in the gameplay of all 3 games, it all makes sense. However, I do have 1 burning question (that I am sure many people have) that I am confused about. I wonder if anyone could help me sort this out: Why does Comstock still exist? If we assume the causality tree, Booker dies at the baptism, Comstock cannot be "born", and therefore the Booker that is still alive (before the baptism) is the only Booker left and cannot have a gambling problem because he hasn't met his future self yet. So my conclusion is (and I may be WAY off).... (This makes the most sense to me) This whole game is like a blooper real, or one of those multiple ending books. Murder of Booker still exists, and Comstock does not anymore. However, in Burial, what we are seeing is one of the multiple endings that could have occurred if Booker took the baptism. In other words, in the timeline of Bioshock Infinite, this scenario is just one of the "lighthouses" so to speak. It is parallel to all of the scenarios that could have occurred in Infinite. However, unlike Infinite, instead of coming to revelation of your wrongdoing then killing yourself at the baptism (the good ending), you're a jerk who killed his daughter and now Elizabeth has come with vengeance to murder you (the really bad ending). Then it's game over, off to another universe. Which, to me, is like DLC Infinite, because 2K studios could make a million of these...
@Azraelseraphim9 жыл бұрын
Why are we assuming Booker only had the one opportunity to have the one baptism. Why not a second opportunity to have one at a later date? That also creates infinite Bookers and Comstocks. He has been; is; and will be. Billions of people in billions of dimensions making billions of choices. That's the secret to the multiverse.

@mrknockknock19 жыл бұрын
+MaxiJonson Here's a clear explanation. After Comstock accidentally ended up decapitating Anna, he spent a long time in Columbia with guilt, before asking the Luteces to do something about it. So while he was still there in Columbia, buried with guilt, he tattooed the symbols AD on his hand before going to Rapture. So as Booker DeWiit in Rapture, he has no idea about the AD tattoo, and no memory of why he got it tattooed on his hand in the first place. His guilt about losing Sally while gambling was not as big as the guilt he had while losing Anna as Booker or while decapitating Anna as Comstock. He did have guilt, and he was sad, but he was pretty much over her once Sullivan told him that she's dead. So, long story shot, AD stands for Anna DeWitt, and the tattoo has got nothing to do with Sally.

3:43 but hold up now, we don't know if the crib inside is Anna, we all know that the screen fades to black once Booker opens the door to her room.

Thank you so much. Everything u explained in both episodes make so much sense now. The fact that the last Elizabeth died in episode 2 means theres no more alternate universes since theres nobody to open rifts now. You are the man!!!

The part that I can't figure out is why Comstock has the AD tattoo in this universe?

I think the explanation for Elizabeth being in the flashback is that she is just a stand-in for the flashback. She's yelling at Comstock in rapture, while Comstock is flashbacking to grabbing Anna and seeing current Elizabeth arguing with him as if she's there. Like someone yelling in a dream to wake up. She still knew about the decapitation because I think she said in episode 2 she felt all the pain of every version of herself, so she knew she was decapitated in one universe and so traveled there to get revenge.

I have a series of questions: In burial at sea part 1 why is the child called sally instead of anna? after comstock traveled to rapture to erase his mistakes how did he became booker?he instantly became booker just becouse he changed the universe?or was he both booker and comstock in the same person at the same time?and at first he was booker but he became comstock after elizabeth remembered him of his past?or he was comstock from the start and pretended to be booker?

Because it's not Anna. It's a different child. And after Comstock caused Anna to be decapitated in this timeline, he shaved his beard and went back to using his birth name. He then asked the Luteces to send him to Rapture, and going through the tear erased his memories.

So does Burial at Sea part 1 show that killing Booker prior to the baptism at the end of infinite makes no difference to Comstock being created, as it shows that Comstock still comes about in Burial at Sea

I love the film noir feel of the beginning of this DLC.

I really enjoy the fact that the hair of the "Little Sister Teacher" will be either Blonde or Dark depending on the playthrough. Just another constant and variable.
