Biostimulants Registration in India | For Manufacturers, Importers & Marketers

Bio-stimulant is one of the most important product category for agriculture in today’s time.
Ministry of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmer Welfare introduced an Amendment dated 23rd February 2021, in the Fertilizer (Control) Order, 1985 for inclusion of #Biostimulant products.
#Biostimulants are, “substance or microorganism or a combination of both whose primary function when applied to plants, seeds or rhizosphere is to stimulate physiological processes in plants and to enhance its nutrient uptake, growth, yield, nutrition efficiency, crop quality and tolerance to stress, regardless of its nutrient content, but does not include pesticides or plant growth regulators which are regulated under the Insecticide Act, 1968 (46 of 1968)”.
Biostimulants products specified in Schedule VI shall be classified under 8 categories namely:
1. Botanical Extracts, including seaweed extracts
2. Biochemicals
3. Protein Hydrolysates & Amino Acids
4. Vitamins
5. Cell-Free Microbial Products
6. Antioxidants
7. Antitranspirants
8. Humic & Fulvic Acid and it's derivatives
If the biostimulant product is already in the Indian market, the manufacturer / importer must first obtain Provisional Certificate. Any new Biostimulant product must be included in Schedule VI of the regulations by filing Form G. No person shall manufacture or import any Biostimulants unless it is included in it.
