@@maddlarkinThe writing on ME3 for the dialogue and secondary story decisions was the peak of the series-if they bring that energy, plus actually have a satisfying overall plot that isn’t rushed or chopped, I could see them doing well. I don’t have much faith, but game developers are starting to show signs of learning some harsh lessons. Ubisoft retooling Shadows to put YassGay in the back seat is proof that they may start putting profits from customers above the now-disappearing ESG funding.

I heard the writing team was completely gutted. That's where the DEI crap really is. Maybe that and the art department and interstitial administration departments.
@maddlarkin7 сағат бұрын
@samaritan_sys The dialogue is a very debatable point, for example the entire conversation with the Catalyst alone is some of the most pretentious meaningless nonsense that's been committed to screen since the Architect in the 2nd Matrix movie. But the wider story writing is just weaker, the handling of the ME2 characters who are just sort of shoved to the side, most of the secondary interactions where you just randomly barge into conversations is contrived, the whole Jessica Chobot thing. The introduction of that stupid ninja assassin (the novel didn't make him any better, worse if anything). Bioware don't learn, they attacked the fanbase for the sake of Casey Hudsons ego, the arguably set that as acceptable buisness practice getting us where we are now. The real talent was gone before 3 and the few remaining from 3's time weren't that great to begin with
@samaritan_sys7 сағат бұрын
@@maddlarkin Honestly, having just played through Legendary Edition again, I still have to say that, aside from some of the objectively bad writing examples you gave (I personally liked the conversation interjection parts), a lot of the writing in the first two games was far weaker than I remember with nostalgia goggles. ME1 didn’t develop the squad mates enough (aside from Wrex, I felt), ME2 didn’t have them feel like they were ever parts of conversations during missions, while ME3 was strong in both those departments. There’s actually character moments in ME3 you can miss by not paying attention, and that’s a factor largely missing from the first two games, barring some things like Wrex’s possible fate on Virmire and the consequences of taking too long before rescuing your crew in 2. That’s just some of why I find 3’s writing superior in general, aside from the joke of an ending we were given in place of the Dark Matter plot.

@Cardulionax9 сағат бұрын
@@ItamarO93 I'd agree there somewhat. I liked the first 2/3rds of that game but then the last third or so I thought was pretty bad and worse Bioware lied about the ending. Before that game came out they claimed that you could get the best ending without playing the online mode which was just not true as in order to get the "best" ending without playing online you had to have killed off Wrex in the first game and given that Wrex is one of the best characters in the series I consider him being dead to automatically be not the best ending. Given all of that I don't think I would consider that game to have been a "truly great" game. Certainly it wasn't as bad as what came afterwards with Anthem and Andromeda but I wouldn't say it measured up to the likes of ME 1 or KOTOR or any of Biowares true classics. edit: Even then if we do count Mass Effect 3; that was what 13 years ago now? He said this: When EA bought them, they basically threw infinite money at them and told them to use that money for the then in-development Command&Conquer 2. Which threw them for a loop. They were used to creating games on a budget and now they had all the money. Which made them panic. They felt forced to live up to the implied expectations of suddenly being given literal millions of Dollars. So they increased the scope of the game. Which eventually caused Tiberian Sun to be a buggy mess, that had to be delayed several times. I always figured, that this was what killed many studios, that were acquired by EA.

I'm still amazed they survived Inquisition
@MikaelLV7 сағат бұрын
Why be amazed at that? Inquisition is one of their best selling games ever. 13 million copies. What amazes me is how they survived Anthem which was a complete disaster and their first certified flop.

Hell a small, behold our new engine and welcome to our setting game for a small preview of a larger Mass Effect at a 20ish dollar price would do wonders. Have it not be the main characters(perfect way to check if their art is on point), just a b-plot that can be summered at the beginning of the new Mass Effect(and maybe offer some minor resources for players that completed the little game).

@Arch if you see this have you been paying attention to Exodus by Archetype studios?

I'm one of those weird people who like 123 and Andromeda. I never ran into a lot of the issues others did with Andromeda. I was lucky.
@Biostasis5x75 сағат бұрын
I didn't like Andromeda because the story was flat and boring. Meeting entirely new alien races, politics and military movements, morality and ethical conundrums should be a highpoint of any franchise. It wasn't. It was boring. Lame villians. Reminds me of halo 4.

If i was in charge of things id do an open world mass effect - on a smaller scale call it "Mass effect: the new war" and it would be set in a time after everything happened and it plays on a "Strategically important moon" under siege by unnamed automatons have a convinient ruin from a civilization that faught the reapers for some new cool alien tech toys 2 male and 2 female companions for the romance (2 Humans 2 quarians - as the moon the game takes place in is in a quarian ship crashed on and they decided to settle here) have a Hub thats on the crashed ship from which you can accept "operations" which are missions in the open world doing certain operations will unlock "Large Scale operations" which are essentially story quests where dialogue happens and lore happens and the romance speech options happen and round it out with a monster hunter esque endgame as at the end of the story they open up the ruin only to discover the ruin was actually a holding cell for huge biological horrors and also the automatons were just dormant defence systems of the moon wrap it up and put a bow on it - done

Apparently they fired Trick Weakes, who was one of the most progressive fixtures for the last 20 years. That was a surprise, so who knows what they may do next.

Prequels always suck. We know how it ends. Having predetermined endings for open world rpg's is garbage.
@tymoteuszbryx2495 сағат бұрын
@ I’m not disagreeing. It doesn’t have to be the same model of a game. Rogue One was fun even we all knew where it will end. But HOW it got there was interesting. Plus it doesn’t have to be the story that ends with the end of it. It could be set earlier. If it’s done by people who care, who did ME 1&2, it could be done.

What this tells me is that EA is just about ready to close up BioWare... Though honestly it should have happened quite some time ago, most prominently with Anthem where they famously kept procrastinating and planning for so long that when they were forced to show SOMETHING, they reverse built a game from the trailer..

honestly I didn't mind SOME aspects of andromeda. The multiplayer horde shooter was fun and the character classes there felt fun and better managed than the single player mess that felt like a bunch of options that just DID NOT WORK *TOGETHER* man that single player experience was... a let down. I hated trying to make Ryder something I *wanted* to play. I wanted to try and stack some abilities and effects and just found that most really wouldn't affect things or were too limited to allow for such. Effects sharing cooldown... like EVERYTHING seemed to use the same cooldown and squad members were reduced to random banter and side guns with no control and limited build options... I really would have just preferred they made your squad like the MP mode classes and let US also se those classes and their effects instead of that pathfinder stuff.
