Thankyou enjoyed. With the migrations getting harder with the Skyscrapers, Windmills and less habitat to feed, Ships are a lifesaver. A Freind & I rescue songbirds that hit the glass skyscrapers in Newark NJ, TRT made a video named 'Window Strikes in the Business District' of us picking up injured Warblers. In Newark most of the birds that hit the glass skyscrapers perish on impact, or when fall to the cement pavement. The injured get a 2nd chance when we bring then to TRT. TRT vid minute 4:01 shows a paralyzed Flicker crying, that Flicker made full recovery.
@OdiFroilan2 жыл бұрын
I saw your video. You are doing a very good job there. It's heartbreaking indeed just the thought of a small song bird flying for so many miles avoiding raptors etc only to suddenly collide on a man made structure that was selfishly designed. Unfortunately some birds face similar dangers on a ship as some still hit on windows or are distracted by the lights at night especially during storms. Birds were migrating for thousands of years before the shipping industry took over the oceans. Ships do help tired birds but attract also others that would have normally cross the sea right away without having to deal with the extra dangers of a ship.
@anitacoogan48222 жыл бұрын
@@OdiFroilan Wow I did not consider that perhaps some birds attracted to ship they may have flown to their original destination. The more I know the more I want to know, thank you for sharing. I agree selfish designed as they know the birds are harmed, but do not care . Newark is big city ( not save for animals or people) and two of us cannot cover every building as the gulls eat the injured & perished in seconds -- yet every year more glass skyscrapers go up in Newark ( cheap and fashionable looking).

Thanks. The footage was collected during the contracts i had in 5 years. Depending the route of the ship, the period of the year and the breaks i had from my duties, sometimes there were whole months without seeing any bird. Best times are the migratory "waves" when in a few hours, more than 10 different species can be found on deck. Other times lonely individuals appear or small groups of just 1 species.

This happens in every migration period and in every ship that happens to be passing through the migration paths at these moments. The vast majority of the birds will pass without stopping by. But most exhausted or confused birds will definitely use the ships as a temporary shelter.

Gracias.

Most of these clips have been filmed on the tank deck of crude oil and LNG carriers. In both cases, flammable gases are to be expected in the atmosphere and that's why there is a strict international policy that prohibits the use of any common camera, smartphone, flashlight, tool etc as they may cause sparks and ignite massive fires or explosions.
