Great video Espen. Love the images of the light hitting the birds with the dark background all around them completely separating the bird in the image. Can I ask also where you get your music for your videos? Cheers Keith

I am from Spain and I love your videos and bird photography. In case you need any help or want some information just tell me. Dont miss the opportunity to visit Tablas de Daimiel. Right now, in that place there is few water, that is a pitty but you could spot and photograph the european roller quite easy as well as many small birds such as the Panurus biarmicus or the Locustella luscinioides (i dont know the names in english) or the lesser spotted kestrel. Where are you staying? maybe i could recomend you some places. I hope you enjoy our country :)

Thank you very much for that Quique! Great country, love it here :) I'm staying near Torrox, any suggestions nearby appreciated. I've got plans to head to see flamingoes at Fuente de Piedra and a site near Malaga airport. Tablas de Daimiel looks great, but I think that will be a bit far this time around.

Espen, I just love your vlogs, but can't help thinking that you're missing out on a bit of reach. I just love small birds, and my go-to combo is the 7DII with the Tamron 150-600 G2. It certainly isn't a Canon L lens, but when used properly gives me exceptional results, even for long-lens macro. I'm just starting to experiment with an old EF 400 f5.6L with a 1.4 extender for crisper shots, but it's not that much better than the Tamron, and the Tamron has the zoom to make it much more flexible. I still need to test the 400L/1.4 on my EOS-R which I find a bit sluggish with the Tamron, but I guess the Tamron will also be good for a future 7DII mirrorless APS-C in whichever format -RF or M?
@EspenHelland5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alan! I got myself a 1.4 extender as well to get that extra reach, I find that I lose some sharpness at 560mm so I try to only use it when I need it. I used to have the previous Tamron 150-600mm, but weren't too happy with the results using it towards the 600mm end, though I hear that the G2 is a big improvement! I think if I get another lens at this point it would be a fast prime :)

How much money do I need for traveling Spain
@EspenHelland5 жыл бұрын
Tough question! Depends how you travel and how long you're staying I guess. I got a rental car for about £300 for 3 weeks and the food and drinks are a bit cheaper than the UK - if that helps?

Turtle doves used to be quite common in the U.K., unfortunately it’s still legal to shoot and eat them in certain countries on their migratory path. That, and more modern farming techniques makes it our fastest declining bird by percentage. That is obviously a very simplified overview. I remember seeing them on a regular basis with my grandfather in the 60s. There’s a lot of great things happening in Spain at the moment, not least of all their work with the Lynx. We actually had a flycatcher perched on our feeder about a week ago. It didn’t have the decency to stay there whilst I got my camera. The only place I know where they nest around here is about 10 miles away, in some river banking woodland. Collins App??? Mark goes straight to the App Store. As soon as you set off on your first recce I thought, "hmm, he has no water!" Tut tut! You sir should know better, especially if you are using bins. Dehydration and binoculars equals one heck of an headache. As always a great video, very enjoyable indeed. Such a pity you’re having to suffer such terrible digs!

It is extremely sad. Here in Spain there are many efforts to protect the european turtle dove. However it is not enough and they are still hunted in many other countries, In addition in Spain it is still legal to hunt lots of species and the hunters lobby its quite powerful, a really bad and sad situation against which we are trying to fight daily. I encourage all of you to come and visit Spain as we have tons of wildlife and hundreds of species of really nice birds and it is really important the the ornithologist tourism becomes more important than hunting so many birds will get valued and protected.

Yeah so ridiculous! Not looking at anyone in particular, (cough Malta)! Though unfortunately, the UK and Norway still have a long way to go when it comes to wildlife conservation - both prioritising farming first even in places it's unproductive and causing incredible pressure on the landscape. Yes, it's very promising with the re-wilding projects throughout Europe and the ambitions for Trees for Life in the UK, though I'm sure they'll get stopped reintroducing lynx to Scotland. Collins App is excellent! everything that's in the book, but with songs and calls, comparison features, and you can get Bird Atlas as an addon - Worth getting :) Thanks very much Mark, I'll be sure to bring water next time ;)

@@quiquealfaro5476 Seems to be a familiar story in most countries 🙁

Espen Helland So much has changed in the U.K. since my childhood, and that was only the 60s and 70s. It’s incredibly sad, but we Brits are world champion finger pointers without looking at ourselves. At one time several of our governments from both main parties almost blackmailed farmers to farm more intensively. Then we ended up with butter mountains and wheat mountains right across Europe. If they do introduce the Lynx into Scotland it will be horrendous, we need to get protection in for the Scottish wildcat's gene pool first. Then where do we reintroduce it? The same places the farmers already have issues with white tailed eagles? For any conservation to work it has to have the cooperation of the farmers. And we don’t want those horrendous feeding stations they have for kites in Wales. So many people have tried to set their own up in their garden with some pretty negative experiences for their neighbours. It’s very unnatural.

You have fantastic video's very informative and all around nice, but some constructive criticism. The music is awful and loud[atleast the vocals], way to much volume control... Cheers and thanks for the videos!
