Bird’s Eye Jasper Soft Solder Tree Of Life (TOL)

Join me, as I create a detailed tree of life “TOL”with a beautiful Birdseye!
Tools & Supplies
***Most items were purchased on Amazon
Tools:
- Xuron round nose pliers
- Xuron long nose pliers
- Xuron tweezer nose pliers
- Xuron flush cutters
- Beadalon nylon jaw pliers
Soft Soldering tools:
- Hakko FX601 soldering iron Amazon.com
- Burnishing tool (popsicle stick, smooth stone, bone or Agate burnisher, etc)
- Heat Resistant Mat
- Disposable brush (trim bristle head) Any hardware store
- Personal safety mask, eye ware & a fan
- Chain nose pliers dedicated to soldering!!!****IMPORTANT as flux will affect these tools
Materials used:
- Harris “Sterling” lead-free soft solder Amazon
- Old Master’s All Purpose Flux
- Copper foil tape (various sizes)
- Novacan Black Patina
- 24 gauge bare copper wire “Home Depot”
- Silver Metal “Owl” bead
- Stainless steel jump rings
- Stainless steel chains and/or cords
- 70% rubbing alcohol to pre-clean all items that will be soldered
- Paper towels for clean up
- Dawn dish soap for cleanup

I love everything about it!! Oh my goodness, it's fabulous! I like the techniques you used. It's wonderful when we do a piece and we end up surprising ourselves at how much better it turned out than we expected, and just loving it. Definitely going to have to try this out! I love the little owl in the tree too,..perfect size, and how the bail almost mimics a rising moon, and the textures are great.😍 It's a great piece, just beautiful. I'm a bit geeked out over giving your techniques a try. My heart goes out to you and to the rest of Sheila's family and friends. 💔🫂🪽 I'm sure she sees and loves this tribute to her. ✨💖✨

I think a patina will look great on this piece, it will go nicely with the twisted bail too. You mentionedin a comment on a previous video that there are tools you have bought that you didn't necessarily need. I would be interested to see what those things were, so maybe I can avoid the same mistakes. I'm still trying to accumulate supplies.

The twisting definately gives me a struggle due to Carpal Tunnel. I bought a hand held gadget and it works well but same problem. I found these tool bits for twisting wire and they work really well. I wonder if they would work with so many strands of wire though?

Definitely challenging when you’ve got physical challenges! You can do the tree/branch twisting & design before applying to the stone. Do you have carpal tunnel in both wrists? You could possibly start the main trunk by soldering all the wires together & then put the end in a vice so you would have the good hand to twist all the individual branches? Pliers can help too but ultimately you’re still performing a twisting motion! Thx for your interest & support! 🙏😊💖
