Just found your channel, Jennifer from viewing this little guy on Pinterest. What a sweet little birdie. One of my favorite birds too. Thank you for showing us how doable this guy is with just a few colors. Something that I very much enjoyed about watching you paint this bird is your careful approach in building up the colors through the layers. I’m watching so many KZbin videos where artists are painting wet on wet, which is fine, but I feel like it forces me into a time constraint corner I’m not happy in, namely PAINT QUICK. I like to take my time and this video taught me that it is perfectly alright to do just that! So glad I found you. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you!

This is so lovely! I'm so glad I found this. I've been interested in watercolor for awhile (which is odd for me since I'm not very crafty, but I'm willing to try), and Xmas is the perfect time for me to experiment bc handmade gifts are my jam. My mother and grandmother collect bird knickknacks, and this would be the cutest gift for the both of them.

I hope you’ve painted them. That would be a wonderful present! I’ll be sketching more bird feeder birds next year...

@@JBranchStudio I will soon! I just yesterday played around with some landscapes to get familiar with how it works, and it didn't turn out too bad! I think watching so many vids before trying helped me be adequately prepared. I knew what to expect, and what to watch out for. It was exhilarating to do. Thank you so much for replying!

Jennifer, I really enjoyed your tutorial on the titmouse. I paint birds in watercolor and tufted titmouse is one of my favorites. I generally paint in more detail, but I love your loose sketch, and you have inspired me to try it. I also like the splatter background, so much easier than trying to paint foliage, etc. Love it! Thanks so much, and Happy New Year!
@JBranchStudio7 жыл бұрын
I love trying to integrate birds with their background, especially with dappled light and shadow. Here's one of my favorites I've done (I kept it!): jenniferbranch.com/j/Paintings/Great-Blue-Heron-painting.html However, splatter or a loose, barely there wash really shows off the birds. So many different choices in how to paint a subject! All part of the fun! Happy Painting!

i love the way you teach i was able to follow you easily my favorite bird IS the tufted titmouse. I mess up on the top of his head where the feathers stand up. But I will try again later. Do you paint parrots too?
@JBranchStudio6 жыл бұрын
Another tufted titmouse fan! The tuft is the trickiest place to paint. Just a few light dry brush strokes, but it's difficult to not get too heavy. I have not painted a parrot in a very long time, but I do have a parrot. You can probably hear her in most videos' audio. She's a Senegal and clearly wants to be painted.

Dear Jennifer, everytime I see your tutorials, I think I should buy that amazing Mr. Graham's watercolours. But poor my wallet!!!
@JBranchStudio7 жыл бұрын
M. Graham makes fantastic paints and they are very good prices for artist quality paints. However, you can do great paints with any kind of paint. It’s just harder to paint well with lower pigment paints. It requires more washes, so more chance to get muddy. I recommend the little Cotman palette($12) to start, then replace the student paints one by one with artist grade as you run out of a color. That way you don’t have to get them all at once. You’ll be surprised at how much further the higher pigment paints go too. You really can paint with anything you have. Better equipment just makes it easier, like anything else. I always recommend stepping up slowly, as you paint more.
@simosimo75607 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Branch The problem is that in Italy you can't find Mr. Graham's watercolours. I must buy them online, in UK. If you buy at least 6 colors, you can have a discount. In Italy it's easyer to find winsor and Newton professional watercolours
@simosimo75607 жыл бұрын
Can you suggest me another brush? I can't find your beautiful escoda squirrel round brush. Or the isabey that you use here
@JBranchStudio7 жыл бұрын
Simonetta Pettene , since I don't know what brands you have available and I also only test what I actually use, not all of them, I can tell you how to pick out a brush. For your basic workhorse brush, you want a sable or squirrel. Squirrel is looser and less precise than sable. Squirrel will also not last quite as long - but I get about 2 years out of a squirrel painting every day. You want a round brush around a size 12-14. The most important part is the tip. You want a full reservoir, where the water holding part bulges out a bit, then tapers to a very fine point. The finer the point, the better the brush. A fine point on a big reservoir brush means a lot more possibilities for varied brush strokes. I do not recommend Winsor and Newton brushes. They were fabulous 20 years ago, but aren't great now. I hope this helps!
@JBranchStudio7 жыл бұрын
Oh, I forgot. Most art stores will let you try brushes with clean water. Definitely do that if you can!
