Javier Cardenas Of all of Jeremy's reviews I've seen, the ones he's praised the most are given worth buying. Also, telling someone a movie's awesome and should go see it in the cinema a few times versus spending more times the money and having the movie available on blu ray at all times, which sounds like the higher praise?
@estivel15

Afolabi Bukola No. Awesometacular is the highest rating. It means the movie is 10/10, you must see it as well as owe it on BlueRay.

He's a lot like the Joker in Arkham Knight, except, he gives better advice. And he doesn't have as much fun with the world around Riggan, the than that one part in the hospital bathroom and the action scene that's not actually happening.
@davidevans3353
@davidevans3353 9 жыл бұрын
SPOILER I personally believe that he did die when he shot himself on stage, the movie is one continuous shot up until the moment where he shoots himself then it cuts to the hospital. When he wakes up he has everything he ever wanted. He has a happy daughter, a good review, his wife, the flowers he wanted and he is finally relevant and when Emma stone looks up and smiles he is imagining her seeing him the way he has always seen himself. So in conclusion I believe that the final scene of the movie is his dying fantasy.

This movie's overrated. The acting was awesome, and so was the camera work... but when I really just sat there watching it I felt like it was going nowhere. It's not a film that I would care to watch more than once. The movie revolves around interest in the characters to drive it. Maybe I just didn't like it because people don't interest me, events they're involved in do.
@grnarrow7695

so you didn't catch the messages the film was trying to convey? thats what makes the flim not "overrated" it's not jsut a film your supposed to watch. you have to THINK while your watching it. thats the point man. the whole scene where he is loosing his shit and birdman is following him baisically sums up what I am saying to you right now

@EzraSchwartz1
@EzraSchwartz1 10 жыл бұрын
Just because a movie doesn't have any major criticisms doesn't automatically make it an awesometacular. It's not like grades in school, where you start off at 100 and get points off for things you got wrong. It's more of how you generally feel about the movie after watching it. And also, he did say that it dragged on a bit.

This film confused the hell out of me. Firstly I wasn't sure if he had super powers or was just mental (the birdman voice in his head). After an hour into I was sure he had superpowers but then when he wakes up from the street and flies around New York lands back at the theatre a taxi driver comes into shot and says "hey you didn't pay for your cab fair" therefore me thinking its in his head, he's mental and that he didn't fly. Then at the end he starts flying again? Secondly the way its shot is kinda like a play. Its as if you're watching a play in a play. Yes its different and quirky but the camera work just confused me in regards to time of the day. Also I don't know how it was portraid around the world but in the UK it was bigged up as a quirky comedy. I don't remember laughing even once. After 90 minutes I just wanted it to hurry up and end. Sorry if you disagree, i'm just giving my opinion on the film.

Movie reviewers should have a wide taste, I'm not saying Jeremy doesn't, but if any professional reviewer prefers action movies over all other genera of film and this is evident with his scores, that seriously limits your demographic. P.S. Maybe I need to reiterate, BUT I'M NOT SAYING THIS APPLIES TO JEREMY!
@anubiisdoesthiis
@anubiisdoesthiis 10 жыл бұрын
After reading comments on this review and "Interstellar" it's clear what's terribly wrong with our perception of the scoring system. The score is clearly more important to us viewers than the actual words of the reviewer throughout the review. No matter how positive or negative a reviewer's remarks are it all falls down to the score. Here we are on Jeremy's channel complaining about "Birdman" and "Interstellar" not getting the precious "Awesometacular" score because so many of us loved these movies and seemingly lesser quality movies from this year did earn that score. Jeremy and other critics are burdened with a double-edged sword. If Jeremy threw out "Awesometaculars" left and right he would be criticized for being too lenient. Alternatively, if he withheld "Awesometaculars" to the point where he could count on one hand how many movies deserved it at the end of the year he would be criticized as too picky or a stuck-up snob. Chris Stuckmann faced this problem this year due to getting several complaints about not giving out enough "A+s." We are ALL guilty of doing this, including myself, and before we have a knee-jerk reaction and attack the reviewer, we need to examine the importance of everything leading up to the score rather than solely examining the score itself. "What is 'Awesometacular' to you, Jeremy?" "What is an 'A+' to you, Chris?" No, what is 'Awesometacular' or an 'A+' to YOU? All the factors that draw you to your conclusion (the score) mean more than you could possibly imagine to the point where the conclusion (the score) is futile.
@tomstonemale
@tomstonemale 10 жыл бұрын
Sad thing is that Jeremy's rating was supposed to avoid that. "Awesometacular" only means that he really liked the movie but people think it's a 10/10 rating thefore the movie should be near perfect.

tomstonemale EXACTLY. This is why when he started he didn't use a rating system, but then people were complaining about not understanding if he liked a movie, or didn't like a movie, or not getting how much he liked a movie, so he tried to avoid that and ended up with the same problem. It's about as bad as the Man of Steel comments.

If you're really that narrow-minded to believe a caricature in a movie, you should start to research a little more. The critic in Birdman was so over-the-top and one-dimensional that you'd have to be a complete ignoramus to think that represents the standard critic.

***** not entirely what i meant, but yeah it was over the top, but in the same sense its true. just like in ratatouille, like some critics hate art because of the creators and not the work as itself. also a lot of them are over the top in defending themselves against people who disagree... see jeremyjahns interstellar spoiler talk. like why was he so pissed? im starting to believe that a lot of critics think that they hold the power of a movie being good or not which is a joke. which Birdman pointed out flawlessly and yeah a little over the top, but you cant seriously say that there arent critics like her out there

So many idiots in the comments section. Do people really think Jeremy factors in a movie's budget or whether it's a blockbuster before he gives it his score? Of course he doesn't. Jeremy gives awesometaculars to movies he really loves. That's up to his own personal taste. Buy it on Blu-Ray means he still really really liked the movie - it just didn't appeal to his taste quite enough for him to give it he top rating.

People stop focusing on the rating Jeremy is giving it. If you look at his video from 2010 when he created his ratings, he said that he really doesn't like the idea of ratings because people focus more on the rating than the content of the review (which is what everyone is doing now). His ratings are a way to sarcastically make fun of ratings. They have no merit to them, but what he says about the film does.

Felix Catora The fact that he didn't acknowledge "Rope" (one of the first films to make it seem like it was one long continuous shot) or "Russian Ark" (a film that was actually one long continuous shot) while gushing over "Birdman"'s one-shot cinematography proves that he doesn't know what he's actually talking about. I would excuse him if he was like 14 or something but he's 34, I believe (MY AGE) and he's working as a movie reviewer. He should know his shit by now.

SPOILERS: I think he actually died when he shot himself and he went into a purgatory like state that tried to show the audience what it would have been like if he was able to see the fruits of all of his hard work. There is a chit ton of symbolism when he was in the hospital room that leads towards this. And there was also a lot of foreshadowing to his death throughout.

Have you seen "Russian Ark" (2002). I think the movie itself is kind of meh at times, but it's 90minutes actually in one take. The German movie "Victoria" (2015) is over two hours in one take. Not trying to bring down Birdman here, I loved it, but just in case you're interested in actual one-shot movies.

Sure, the "cinematography" was cool, but hardly innovating. Hithcock did it 66 years ago. The acting, sure it's great. But the script, man. Why did they even bother with the hallucinating "powers"? For most of the movie, I though he really did have them. You can tell the same story without confusing people with gimmicky FX. A man losing his mind is the same whether you show him breaking everything on his room by hand or by telekinesis. The scene where he flies, come on, completely unnecessary. And the ending, really? Like he really ended up flying? Nope. Stupid "open" ending as it can get. But the worst part for me is not the whole imaginary powers. It's the supposed character story. I simply didn't get it. He was depressed and then tried to commit suicide. He failed. He still saw Birdman. No developement. What's so amazing for most of you??

You're lame dude. Birdman is the best film this year. Even if you don't agree with that, it very well deserves Awesometacular. The performances and directing are so powerful, that they vastly outweigh the small negatives. And especially you, someone who reviews movies and "appreciates" the art can see where the script is getting at, and you yourself said you understand from your perspective. This film is gonna be regarded as cinematic gold 20 years from now. You're falling off dude. Tsk tsk tsk.

I really hated this move. It was so boring. And I will give the reasons why. You know how it sucks when comedians say, "for my next joke", well that's how this movie feels. It breaks the illusion of a story, and talks about the hardships of Hollywood to be "artistic" and "real artists", blah blah blah. Most of us are not in the movie business, or not not professional movie critics. We don't care about your problems in Broadway. All I hear is "super thumbs up" from the KZbin movie critics. Well, that's because the movie is FOR THEM, not for the general public. I do get that the movie was "one complete shot", or it tried to be, and all the other bull-crap about the "psychology" in each of the characters. and the ART OF FILM MAKING. Yes, that was all good, but the context in which they all happened was WRONG. I would love to see a movie like this that can relate to the general public, not just people in the movie business. Obviously, the writer of the film was too in touch with his/her own problems, to think of something original. Hated the movie. The HOW was great, the WHAT was totally off.

So - In reading the comments... I'm pretty sure your feed is packed full of trolls, bots, and butthurt banana-wielding monkeys! That being said... "Birdman" was a wonderful film. It would be hard not to go into a kind of minor rant about the inner workings of the movie; the well placed some dialog-to-action scenes and the crazy cool one-shot flow it was having throughout the film. It’s a great film, outstanding performances from the cast, wonderful through-line, and radiant score - which is primarily percussion - magic! This film did a few things for me; mad me sad, glad, and excited for all of the same reasons - This is one of the best of the year, but it’ll be thrown to the wayside with regards to the general public... because of that - I’m sad. I’m glad because for the general public will most likely hate it ( like: Rubber ) and I’m excited because this was made - it exists! However all of that aside... the one thing that I took away from this was... Emma Stone killed it! The monologue she belts out directed towards her characters father: solid. I honestly could on and on about it, but I’m not. Because that would be a very TM;DR issue. Nonetheless: I give this a definitely recommend, a blu-ray purchase, and a nearly 10/10.

The movie is always trying to over-smart the viewer. It is one if those movies that drowns in its own ego. I think the acting was okay, and the one-shot gimmick thing is nothing revolutionary but it is a cool achievement indeed. And birdman costume was pretty cool but other than there is nothing i like about the movie. The plot is weak, again, it is trying too hard to be cool and smart, and the ending was actually bad. Alright, we get it, people are selling theirselves for money thus ruining "true art". But so what? That should't mean that the movie has the right to humiliate people who dont enjoy unconventional art movies. The message of the movie is: if you are not smart enough to understand the plot, than it is art. The directors "i know everything look how smart am i" attitude is irritating and it starts to take over the movie after sometime. I kinda get why people like this. It is diffrent, it is unusual. But to me, i should not have to think so so hard in order to get a little particle of message out of the god damn thing. It is trying to make you leave the movie in hopes of actually understanding the point so that you can tell how smart, artsy and cool of a humanbeing you are. "Because starring in non-lowbudget (indie) movies with visual effects is not art and you have to shoot yourself in the head to get appreciation from the "high class" critiques" Maybe that is the point of the movie. Maybe it is trying to show how horrible these movies can get in the name of "art" by actually reflecting this idea from itself. But i highly doubt so... I dont want to hate this movie but to me it is pointless and a waste of time. It is humiliating / offensive / rude to many, attempts to tell us nothing but the things we already know but fails at it. I think people who think they get what this movie is trying to say are wrong, because there is no message. It is ironic.

GameNationRDF I didn't feel it was a pretentious film at all, actually it was so emotionally powerful, and as an artist myself, I can say that is the main point of any piece of art. Yes, it tries to be a lot of things at the same time, but it works, nothing felt unnecesary or out of place or put there just to ''make a point''; everything was connected. The message (at least what I felt was the main message) wasn't insignificant at all, it was about ego, how everyone needs it to feel superior/more important in order to feel validated (some more than others); when in the end we all are pretty much insignificant. I can't understand why you think it was insulting, because it wasn't difficult to understand at all (no, i'm not trying to appear smart) , and personally I loved how it fools you towards the end with those apparent endings. And i'm not trying to impose you my opinion, but I really loved this film, so I want to discuss about it.

Medhaav Mahesh I was trying to say that movie is not clever as people think it is. And the fact is, I can find a movie dumb and pointless, what is the big deal about that? I did find the meaning: "yeah bla bla, art movies are dying OMG so many unexpected things wow I am so smart, so many plot twists, superhero movies suck, happiness != success". Really. This is what I get out of that movie. It was trying to dis superhero and high budget CGI driven movies but you cannot validate your argument by completely bashing another. The movie was so desperate for a feel of a story/plot that they made the characters talk about their history and explain things blatantly in very plain language. Again, these are my points, I don't get the fact that these make me a "bad" person as in someone who actually harms others and commits immoral actions.

I found this film unoriginal, boring and the characters detestable. The camera work only help make the space feel real which I kinda admired. Problem was the story! I've seen my fair share of theatre and even worked a bit behind the curtain. This story has been done to DEATH at lease on stage. It reminded me of a French farce I once saw which had the same story, similar characters, who where WAAAAY more entertaining than anyone in this film and it was FUN to watch. In the end I just didn't see what the message was in this film. I enjoyed this film as much as I did Prometheus, which was NOT AT ALL.

I really wish this had received an Awesometacular: / I would like to see more movies like this produced and the only way that happens is for a whole buttload of people to watch it in theaters and for it to make a buttload of money on a small budget which means the people who produced the movie make a buttload of money and all the other producers are like, "Hey.. those producers made a whole buttload of money with a tiny budget. I wanna make a buttload of money on a tiny budget. Let's invest in more films with great characters and good story structure instead of just buttloads of explosions..." Obviously followed by world peace... I demand a recount! Like this comment if you feel #JeremyJahns should change his review from Buy Birdman on Blu-ray to Awesometacular because Jeremy is awesome and would totally do it if a buttload of his fans felt really strongly about it. And support more movies like Birdmand by watching them in the theaters because it's worth every dollar/popcorn kernel: )

Mushrambo Supersayan People like you are so scared of not getting a movie you'll label anything that requires any interpretation as "pretentious", as some kind of way to justify to yourself and other eggheads like you why you think only movies that spell everything out for you are good. You even admit it right there, the movie is too deep for you and your dumb little mind is intimidated by it. There are some reasons to dislike this movie, sure, but that's not one of them.

Jeez, some of these comments... So apparently, Jeremy has to give every movie you think is sophisticated and amazing an Awesometacular, and if he gives it anything below (even if it still means the movie is great) then he's obtuse and narrow minded... Yet, if he actually DID give the Awesometacular rating to all of these movies, then the whole value of the rating is pointless, and you'd be yelling at him for going too easy on the movies... I guess you just can't satisfy everyone, although at the end of the day, why does his rating matter? The rating is just the icing on top of the review, but it shouldn't be the only thing you take away from the review, instead of skipping to the end, LISTEN to his opinions on the film. Bit ironic the people calling him narrow minded and obtuse appear to be the same people that only care about a simple score, instead of the meat of the review and his opinion.

This review is from: Birdman (Amazon Instant Video) I'd like to explain what the movie "Birdman" is actually about so that people can understand this great film better. Observe the poster for the film: You'll notice that 'Birdman' is perched upon Michael Keaton's head. This has a specific Occult meaning: The Reptilian alien that possesses humans is called 'Number 6'. Number 6 is often depicted as a head upon a head just as we see in this image. Birdman is actually Number 6 who possesses Michael Keaton in the film. Many humans in our world are possessed in this way. They all function as a global conspiracy called '666'. The reason they are called '666' is because they ALL host Number 6 - who uses them to govern the planet Earth on behalf of The All Seeing Eye. These people are called 'BioDigitals' because they are biological humans with a digital Reptilian alien intelligence inside their minds. The BioDigitals are the actors of our world and the planet is the stage - which is what the film's allegory is about. For example, in one scene, we see the actress Naomi Watts in her dressing room...There is a hand on her dressing table which is making the '666' hand gesture. And in the scene where Michael Keaton is outside in his underwear, we see the All Seeing Eye looming over him to indicate that he is controlled by this god-like entity. We also see the 'Phantom Of The Opera' poster with a mask displayed often in the movie...This refers to the Occult theme of 'The Masquerade' because the BioDigitals consider themselves to be an alien in disguise wearing the mask of a human face. The very word 'Occult' refers to 'The Secret Order Of The Eye' because 'Oc' means 'Occular' and Cult means 'secret order'. When we hear the gravelly voice of Birdman talking in Keaton's head, that's actually the voice of Number 6 - the indwelling Reptilian alien. Number 6 has governed the Earth for a long time - and is the sixth digitized alien Reptilian who has done so. There were five previous ages of human civilization. All were controlled by a 'BioDigital Conspiracy'. The film's allegory is about the final days of the '666' conspiracy - for the All Seeing Eye will eventually replace Number 6 with 'Number 7' - the seventh digital Reptilian to govern the Earth in a new age. To accomplish this, The 'Eye' must first condemn the current human civilization - which is why Number 6 is corrupting Mankind at this time. (As Mankind is corrupted, this provides The 'Eye' with the necessary excuse to bring about 'The End Of Days' apocalypse.) Number 6 (speaking as Birdman) explains his philosophy that life is about mayhem and disaster. "People want blood," claims Number 6. Other movies that contain a subliminal allegory about Number 6 are: "Donnie Darko" and "The Beaver" starring Mel Gibson. In "Darko", for example, 'Frank The Bunny' is Number 6 - and when Donnie asks him: "Why do they call you Frank?" he replies: "It's the name of my father and his father before me." This identifies Frank as '666' because he's the THIRD Frank (F is the sixth letter of the alphabet - so Frank Frank Frank = 666). In "The Beaver" Mel Gibson retrieves a puppet from a dumpster with the number '6' spray painted on it. This beaver puppet takes over his life and directs him to "Blow it up!". (In "Darko", Frank instructs Donnie to "Burn it to the ground". And in "Birdman", Number 6 incites Keaton to go out in a blaze of glory.) The world stage will eventually be cleared for the '777' age of Mankind, and Number 6 will become a 'has been'. The next age will feature humans with forehead implants (sort of like 'The Borg' of Star Trek). These humans will be guided by The All Seeing Eye and will achieve perfect obedience under this mysterious 'god'. (The purpose of Hollywood's relentless barrage of 'One Eye' symbolism to prepare Mankind for this 'god'.) BioDigitals reveal their existence through subliminal shapeshifting of their EYES. All Hollywood actors display these moments of disclosure in every movie they appear in. For a brief instant (and only at a distance from the camera) they make a slit appear in their EYE that extends ABOVE their human eyelid. (This is known as 'The Clown Slit' because it is depicted in many clown make-up designs.) Humans see this at a subconscious level of our minds and (according to the aliens) AGREE to participate in the BioDigital system by consciously ignoring these displays. Interestingly, humans must also AGREE to accept the forehead implants. Many humans will accept the implant as a device that allows the Internet to stream directly into the mind (like telepathic WiFi). All humans who accept the forehead 'Seal' will become 'perfected' servants of The All Seeing Eye.

Doing a movie in one take isn't really all that hard! Anyone with a camera and editing software can do that, just because a movie finally does it, does not make it revolutionary, i'm not saying it was a bad choice, but don't overhype this movie for being one continuous shot because it's really not all that impressive.

I agree that over praising a movie like this for it's one-take aspect, is pretty redundant. But in all fairness, that didn't make the actual film bad, people just need to tone down on the one-shot crap. The dialogue, and great acting (people were working really hard on this) are what immersed me - what made this movie work, not just the "continuous shot". Eh, I'm probably gonna get hate for this anyway...

Cole Samoth it's not done in one take tho, which made it all that harder to film, to make it seem like it was done in one shot is incredably hard. everything has to be on point. the character positioning, the hair and makeup, the props and backgrounds, the audio tracking. all that stuff.

Well this is defiantly not the first continuous shot movie. It is rare though because it is frankly a pain in the ass, ha. I have seen a few movies that were continuous shot movies, one of them was actually no cuts at all, REAL continuous shot. I can not spell the name off hand...foreign film. It was Cyrillic, so I would guess Russian. Any transitions was the main character walking into a new room, but the camera never cut, or even gave a spot where it could cut. They just had the next scene ready and waiting for him to walk in. Must had been a nightmare to film.

Wow the people in the comment section saying this movie is horrible are so patheticly mainstream i can't even believe it. I think it's hilarious but yet so sad that all of you can't appreciate the movie the way that you should. Oh well, the movie recieved Oscars. That's more than you'll ever accomplish in your life.
