Thanks for the great information! I was hoping you would cover sweet potato, I've seen mixed reviews on whether it needs to be cooked or can be fed raw?
@BirdNerdSophieАй бұрын
Raw sweet potato is perfectly safe! You can lightly steam it in the microwave for a few seconds which can make it a little more digestible but it doesn’t need to be done 😊

Processed food isn't going to instantly make a bird so fat it cant fly. Birds actually self regulate food intake quite well. That being said.... Processed foods should be given in an amount that only offers a taste, not an entire bowl for dinner.
@BirdNerdSophie27 күн бұрын
No of course it’s not going to happen instantly, but there’s equally no reason to offer processed foods to them either.

Please create a video on how to prevent pet birds from getting injured by ceiling fans. Recently, my friend’s cockatiel was hit by a ceiling fan and sadly passed away. 😢 So, I would appreciate your help in spreading awarenes

I live in an area where folks come to do pottery. It’s a red clay area. In my house I have these v old traditional red clay bricks frm out local area which were hand made in the 60s and 70s. Since getting my cockatiels (now a year old), I’ve noticed that they LOVE chewing on these bricks now that spring has sprung! I assumed it was their attempt at getting some iron…thoughts? Do teils require iron?
@BirdNerdSophie2 ай бұрын
I deffo wouldn’t let them chew on the clay bricks at home!

question 1: Bio or non bio products recommended? question 2: I see a lot of peanuts/peanutbutter treats. Should these be avoided (include cashews to this questions)

What about pellets? its seems very man made fast food to me, plus my bird never eats them (any brand, with or without the BRIGHT colourful ones ) I also find pellets get rancid very quickly. I don't eat that kind of boxed food so Im not offering her any more pellets. I tossed it all. Thank you for the info ! xoxo

We’ve spoken about pellets in our very first video today 🥰 we promote raw, real whole food nutrition!

There are vets that promote pellets over all other types of food because they are 100% nutritionally balanced and you disturb the balance if you mix in seeds and chop. Seeds can carry harmful molds and bacteria as well. I use chop and seeds as well as pellets (with occasional sprouts) because my parrotlets enjoy variety. Most mornings they dive into their chop and move into foraging for seeds; however, other days they go straight for pellets.
@BirdNerdSophie2 ай бұрын
Pellets aren’t necessary 100% nutritionally complete, and vets still see deficiencies with them - see my video with Dr Jamie Abete! There’s no way they can be for the approx 400 species of parrot with different dietary needs, and the original parameters were based on the needs of chickens! If people want to offer pellets then they can - but the diet should absolutely be more diverse than that! @@williamholmes8499
