As kids, we used to get excited about our going to Birkenhead for Christmas shopping. But that was a few years ago. 😞

I'm from the Wirral and birkenhead has gone downhill since the 70 s. The 80s explosion of drugs and heroin from Liverpool spread like wildfire.the old market burnt down and the new market opened it wasn't that bad at first .but now it is depressing to what it once was

So sad to see i worked in Birkenhead all my life for 45 years used to bustling the Market the Precinct. ALL the major stores have gone now they wont return its over for them! Car parking charges going UP! excellent idea Wirral Borough Council! lets drive more people away! They even want to get shut or SELL! off Our Town Hall! unbelievable it belongs to the people of Birkenhead!! - They have so much to answer for the Town ending up like this! Once people have left it takes a hell of a lot to get them to come back! Still we have our memories when Birkenhead used to be a thriving Town back in the 60s,70s,80s! they cant take that away from us ever! Happy Days! - GONE but not forgotten!

I used to go to the old Birkenhead Market with my Mum when I was a youngster, it was such a hive of activity, every stall was busy and it was a great day out. I'm 65 now. I live in South Liverpool, in the Aigburth area and it's like Paradise compared to this and I really don't mean to cause offence. The Local council should be ashamed of themselves. They should be doing something to encourage people to want to open up shops and serve the local community, they deserve better.

Thanks. I watched this because, although I live only a few miles away on the other side of the Wirral, I haven't been to Birkenhead to shop in years. I get everything (except groceries) online - and that's the main reason for the town centre decline, imo. Also, I go where the parking is free, on principle (motorists pay enough for increasingly less in return). So, it's Bromborough (Croft Retail), or even further afield to Cheshire Oaks for me. Compared to when I was a lad (I'm 64) when it was a bustling area of commerce and entertainment just a short bus ride from the council estate I grew up on, Birkenhead is in a very sorry state these days.

Successive governments have ruined Northern towns, all towns gave there all for the good of the empire..... what have we done to deserve this lack of respect. Pay good wages and people will prosper. Birkenhead was cheshires biggest town a well respected town full of life and soul and genuine hard working people. Create employment with good wages and watch the nice times return for all.

All the smackheads have moved in when the shops closed especially in the central hotel.

To be fair looks like you're there early or a sunday as there's quite a few shops that are usually open are shut in this video. I live here and they keep building pointless buildings and not adding great shops that will make town thrive just letting shops leave and loads of cheap bargain shops and charity shops. It's sad to see.

I don't live in Birkenhead and haven't for over 40 years but have been to the Pyramids and the market on trips back and it was quite bustling. To be fair, I don't think you were there on the right day.
