I think more inflation will increase mileage as there is less contact patch and hence less friction. But we will lose on handling and will have uneven tire wear. Usually, in the olden days (tube tire days) we were recommended to keep 0.5 PSI higher than the recommended pressure while on the highway during summers so as to prevent tire bursting. The logic is relatively less friction, less heat, and hence less chance of bursting. Thus, low tire pressure is worse than high tire pressure. I am mentioning tube tire days don't know if this applies to this age too.
