Look into to get a new car based on your income and family needs and spends. Getting a new car is far far better than buying an old car and spending on repairs. New Alto, Spresso, Kwid or Nissan Magnite is far far better than getting an old car. Use it for five years and then exchange it for newer car. That way you get to use a car in good condition and covered under warranty and gets good resale value in exchange for newer cars. Getting a loan is sometimes tactical. Also I put extra money for diesel engine into an FD and double the value of it in more or less 7.5 years, considering FD is the safest. I might not save money over a frequently run diesel in terms of fuel cost and resale value over 7.5 years, but it gets pretty close

Insurance price has been hiked for diesel cars. In future considering the price and govt rules, public will think twice before buying diesel cars even though it is used car. My suggestion when u buy a new alto car for 7 Lakhs instead we buy secondhand car for 3 Lakhs difference 7-3=4lakhs invest this 4 lakhs in fixed deposit in post office u get yearly Interest for 4lakhs=29760*5Year=148800(nearly1.50Lakhs) we use this amount for maintenance ,my opinion while we maintain proper we can also save from 1.5lakhs ,my this suggestion is for those who need a basic variant(alto) yearly 3000km after 5 years u have completely 4lakhs in your hand and also now new car quality also very poor

Thanks for focusing on this topic...I agree with your point of you on diesel..but my usages will be below 1000 kms per month ..And I would like to buy either Mahindra Scorpio N or XUV 700..as you know that petrol engine will be drinker (will get 8 kms on avg ) 😢.. spending 20L and get this much low mileage which is not acceptable ..so I have only option to go with diesel engine.. Option 1 : monthly use below 800km with 8kmpl mileage on average (petrol) + car cost (20L) Option 2 : monthly use below 800km with 16kmpl mileage on average (diesel )+ car cost (20L.8) Please let me know your thoughts which one to choose
