Birmingham City 2-1 Rangers | Match Reaction

Kyle is joined by John to react to Rangers' 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City in their penultimate game of pre-season. Rangers were two goals down at half-time after a James Tavernier own goal and a close range effort from Alfie May. Scott Wright reduced the deficit in the second half but unfortunately Rangers were unable to find an equaliser.

Unfortunately Clement appears to be a slightly old school manager playing in a modern game. We need organization on and off the ball, but our tactical approach is absolutely non existent. Muscat would have actually been the shout at the time, I never in a million years would have thought that.

That was the highest quality tactical analysis I've ever seen in Scottish football. Brilliant stuff John, and the first time I've heard a good case that the problem is coaching as much as player quality/application. Worrying stuff.

Clement is not the manager the fanbase thinks he is. The fans actually want a 4-3-3 narrow which is exactly the type of football Gerrard and Beale tried to implament.

Average we smashed rangers off the park it should have been 5-1 Rangers could only get back into it when we made 10 changes bringing on 7 U18s and 3 U21s players. Think about it U18s to call that average is an insult. Birmingham was by far the better Team. Although we are in League 1, we have built this squad with Top championship in mind.

Seems to me hes working with what hes got and what hes got needs to be as fit as possible if the quality isnt going to be there any time soon. Wasnt encouraged by the constant long balls from Kelly and what the future of Rangers youth is looking like but it for me its not 😊their fault, they have nothing to look up to and the standards are far too low with the experienced players for them to kick on and improve. The pressure soon could be heaped on a lot of them if established quality are not brought in soon. Sad times.

All this pish about us needing Player, yes we need 2 forwards and a right winger, but where's the formation changes? Pressing off the ball, man marking, when the defence has the ball on the box the midfield is on the halfway line. Nobody looks for space. Clement isn't the man.

Clement is a reactive coach not a proactive. I wouldn't call him a manager as he isn't building his own team. Managers build their team and then adapt tactics & make the decisions for on the pitch. Coaches only do the tactics and in pitch stuff. And directors of football build the team. Managers do BOTH like Souness, Walter, Advocaat or Brenda at celtic. But anyway he's a reactive not proactive coach. Meanwhile Koppen is also a reactive rather than proactive DOF. Which is a very bad 👎 combination. Bad enough if just one of them wasn't proactive but both of them... plus the board itself is extremely reactice too never ever proactive. The clubs totaly leaderLESS. the best its been but still wasn't perfect by any means, was when Gerrard was there. Because he WAS a leader! They might not have given him the means to continue on & build upon what he'd avhieved so far. But he was a real leader but ever since he left theres no leaders at all! On and off the pitch. The so called "leaders" the captain is NOT a natual leader. You can hand somebody a piece if material they strap around theur arm & call them a leader.... but it doesn't make them one! We badly need some legit leaders at the club off the pitch aswell as on it. Trouble is to actually GET THAT, we need a leader a decision maker in the first place and there isn't any. Clement is a faux leader. A big beta male. A big dope who rabbits on TALKS A LOT without SAYING anything!

Hate to say this we have all been down this road many times but I don’t think clement is the man to take us forward yes board haven’t backed him but the players he does have look so unhappy and not giving the manager the best out them.

And hows it gonna look if Cantwell goes away and tares it up for Norwich or wherever he goes and is scoring goals for fun in the next 3 months. Then Clement gets sacked or quits in the next 3 months. That WOULD happen to us.....🙄😮🫨
