Thank you very much. That brought back a few memories. The old days weren't necessarily better but the pace of life was slower and there was a way of life that we'll never see again.

A lot of people in these photos would be turning in their graves to see how our city has been ruined today

What utter rubbish, as a Brummie who was a kid in those days Birmingham was a dump with as you can see bomb sites, slums and a bleak out look, some of these people will be alive now either middle aged or pensioners but like me I find the new Birmingham a better brighter place to live.

What ruined today, did you actually watch the Video, it showed Birmingham as an absolute ruin of run down slums which have been taken awy and replaced with modern housing. I remember as a child Birmingham then, it was the pits nothing to be nastalgic about unless you like bombed out ruins and slums with no bathroom and outside toilet.

I know poverty was widespread, housing was poor and most of us now live healthier and longer lives. However, there is an unmistakeable appeal to these bygone times.

The pictures moved along too fast made it difficult to recognize where some of the pictures were taken, however thanks for uploading.

Great set of images. If I have one (minor) criticism, it's that the images aren't on screen long enough befor transitioning to the next

Unwatchable. The duration of the images is too short. If you try and pause you get a ghost image. Shame.

Slums, crumbling and unmaintained housing stock, poor plumbing, outside toilets, pollution from cars and smoking blackening the frontages of busier areas and yellowing the inside of houses and cafes. Gorgeous.

Interesting video but it's a pity each image was not up for a few seconds. Just as you wanted to look at something, it was gone.

What, Birmingham was a dump then, I lived through it, dirty terraced Houses, slums, bomb sites , smoke, fumes and dirt, this is why Brum got it's bad name, I am now proud of Birmingham now with its modern City Centre, Green Parks every where and modern housing. I lived through tose times and hated it, but now living in modern Birmingham is fantastic.

Yes, as others have said, great pictures but appalling presentation. The dissolves are far too long and the pictures on screen for less than a second. Disappointing.

The fade transitions were downright annoying. No sooner had an image appeared than it’s being faded into another. Pausing at the right spot is almost impossible due to the speed of the fade. I feel almost travel sick after watching it.

We were on the number 55 Shard End route. Not everyone had cars in thought days and there weren’t so many cars on the road like today . The old ones were cold because there wasn’t a door at the back’ they were a lot better and warmer when the new ones with the doors at the front came out. The other thing I can remember was when the original bullring shopping centre opened going down the long pathed ramp to the market with my mother

@@MrGranfield Yes yellow and dark blue or was it "blue and cream" as my teacher who was from up North used to say, she loved our buses. My friend Kevin jumped off the number 90 before it had completely stopped at the bus stop in Heathfield road , Handsworth in 1971 I still have vivid memories of him cartwheeling down the pavement. He was ok though Lol

After just 15 years, just look at the pre-dominance of black and muslim people in the first part of the film. Why were they directed to Handsworth and Smethwick in particular? And how did the local, indigenous white people react and respond to such profound racial changes in the locality..and at such speed?
@desmondrobinson169
@desmondrobinson169 5 ай бұрын
No Blacks no Irish no dogs, that's why. That is how the indigenous people reacted.
@gospelman7222

I was born & bred in Smethwick. The indigenous people were not allowed to protest, otherwise they were accused of racism. My response was to move south to Portsmouth, where I have lived very happily for the last 54 years.

@@gospelman7222 On YT, you can see Birmingham streets - city centre 1965/6, very few black faces to be seen. Complete opposite if you go up to town today at 1pm, hardly a white face to be seen. A very profound racial revolution thanks to the utterly disastrous Tony Blair. UK has been destroyed by third world immigration.
