Birth of Technical Education and Research Institute (TERI) in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh

In this video, I am narrating the story of Establishment of Technical Education and Research Institute (TERI) in 1994, in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, my birth place. I received my early education in DAV Inter College and City Inter College Ghazipur. I graduated from Degree College, Ghazipur in 1965 in science stream. Shri R. P. Singh, a visionary and a noble soul established the Degree College in Ghazipur in 1957. It was a great boon for the students from eastern UP that enabled the young aspirants in receiving higher education. I joined the College in 1963, the second batch, and completed my B.Sc.in 1965.
During my early education, I had a few excellent teachers who had profound impact on my later life. I remember Dr. Raja Ram Tiwari, Principal City Inter college, who was my Hindi teacher in 12th class in City Inter College. His teaching of verses from Medieval and modern era totally transformed the philosophy of my life. While teaching मैथिलीशरण गुप्त poem

he imbibed that the life has no meaning unless we do some good for our country, state, district and our fellow citizens.
After my Master in Electronics, from Gorakhpur University, I joined Ministry of I & B after competing in Engineering Services exam of UPSC, 1972 batch. I established the IT division at AIR H/Q in 1982 and headed the Division. One fine day in 1992, Shri R. P. Singh visited Delhi and shared with me, his desire to start advanced IT and management courses which would help the young bright students from the eastern Uttar Pradesh to pursue advanced education in IT and management. This would also improve the financial position of the college which was, till then having regular arts and science streams. He requested me to help the college as a former student as Guru Dakshina (pay back).
It was a tall task with multiple challenges. I thought to start Master in Computer Application course followed by MBA. The college was affiliated to Poorvanchal University. The University also did not have these courses, curriculum or fee structure. It also needed approval from various authorities, academic council of the University, AICTE etc. The infrastructure in terms of building, lab, teachers needed to be created.
A SWOT analysis was done analysis strengths, weakness, opportunity and threat. The positive approach of the Vice Chancellor was most encouraging and the great opportunity was to design a new curriculum which could be industry oriented an provide opportunity for placement in India and abroad.
A new Institute by the name of Technical Education and Research Education (TERI) with a new building was planned. The work was taken on war footing. The Lay Out Plan and drawings were prepared in Delhi. The construction of building, Labs, course design and approvals were quickly obtained. The first entrance test for admission to MCA course was conducted in Delhi. The visiting faculty went from Delhi to start the course till the recruitment of regular teaching staff. The effort paid dividend. The first batch of MCA started in 1994 and the students got excellent placements. A few of them could get selected by US companies.
In 2003, I visited the College for starting a Community Radio Station.
The College celebrated SWARNA JAYANTI in 2009, after completing 50 years and honoured FIVE BEST STUDENTS, selected from all the students graduating from the college during last 50 years, who made significant contribution towards development of nation. I was privileged to be one among them.
I visited the Institute in 2021 and I was delighted to see the progress of the institute.
