T Kingfisher has become one of my favorite authors over the last couple of years, hope you enjoy her stories as much as I do. If you are in the mood for horror start with hollow places, pick up nettle and bone when you want a fairytale retelling that is a bit dark and subverts expectations.

Amazon is the worst for books. I ordered the The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings Boxed Set: Illustrated edition that I was willing to pay more for because I missed it when it came out. When I received my copy from Amazon it looked like it had been shredded up by a lawn mower. I have never seen a set of books so mangled in my life. To say I was shocked that they would even send me books in that condition is an understatement. In the past I have received books from Amazon with water damage, torn pages, and vowed after LOTR debacle never to purchase from them again. Happy Birthday Mike.

I've been having a lot of trouble with them. But fortunately my new edition of The Lord of the Rings illustrated edition arrived in good condition. But it's been impossible to get the Witcher hardcover books without them getting damaged or having other issues.

Hi Mike, not sure if you're still looking for a standalone Alistair Reynolds Sci fi book. The only book I've read of his is 'House of Suns' which is verges on space opera, for it's very far in space and very far in the future. It has a few surprises that caught me out, and there is a fantastically described space chase in one part. The premise is outlandish (outspashish?) There is also political maneuvers. You might enjoy it as also (in my opinion) has a very satisfying conclusion.

Why we read, story & prose like a ballet…This is historical fiction, after the Athenians are defeated by Syracuse, 412 B.C. The tone and prose are similar to the Blacktongue Thief, whimsical & crude, funny and moving…a must read!

However my favorite franchise is still Animal Crossing and New Leaf will forever be my favorite game ever! My recent discovery this month is a modern fantasy series called The Crone Wars.
