In 1960 ' s people in India never used to celebrate birthday but from 1970 people celebrated birthdays by cutting cakes, and making delicious food. For my birthday my mother used to prepare coconut tapioca and red fish curry and buying if new clothes , distributing toffees in school to students and teachers then cutting of cakes as usual

THANK YOU for these excellent and enjoyable materials. My students in Hungary have seen this video. This is what they have to say: Student 1: In my culture we don't always sing "Happy Birthday". I have only had one birthday party in my life. In my culture we too have to blow out the candles, but we are not so superstitious. We have to make a wish before we blow out the candles. Student 2: I've never had a birthday party. I don't like birthday parties. I like this video because I understand nearly every word. I think this video is useful to everybody who is learning English. O: We go to the birthday girl's home. We play games. Then we sing for the birthday girl and she blows out the candles. We give her presents and eat the cake. Then we eat the food, cakes, cookies and drink pop. Then we dance and sing. Student 4: I've never had a birthday party but I'd like a party. When I have a party then I'd like as lot of games and of course a lot of presents. because I'd like a birthday party. I understand every word and it is very good.

One more comment by a student: I like this video because I can learn with this. I have had one birthday party with my classmates. I have had many birthdays with my family and my friends. We had a cake and we gave presents to the birthday boy or girl.

in our culture, the birthday parties are the same as Western culture. Also, it means good when we open gifts immediately when we take it ;)

hi there what's up teacher...✋ In my crazy country the party is really crazy but depends of the party if is for kids is more relaxed and coloful, you know for the kids, but the party is for mature people, the party is the craziest hahaha because you know, the beers, music but don`t always is like that the party because some times you see games like cards, of dance or pin the tail on the donkey or karaokees or the game of bottle. When you come to the party the first you say is congratulation for you birthday and after you give the gift, but if you don´t bring gift it is not problem you says wow that pretty cool is the party in general don´t see many meal, you see many snacks 👅 after of time someone bring the cake with candles if don´t bring candles they put someone matches over the cake and sing the song happy birthday then all the guests all say at the same time, "bite the cake, bite the cake", when he bite the cake all pushed his or she's head over the cake I don´t know why they do this, and then all start to dance .🎂 bye bye amigo see you in the next episode 😅🙃

Everything remains same in our country. But as you know that in there are lot of different religions, caste, sub-caste, etc. so few religions don’t celebrate birthday when a child is born in their family because they fear that if they celebrate it then they may lose the child in few days. Some castes have a tradition to celebrate it believing that that their child would be blessed by many people. Most of them celebrate by visiting church or temple or mosque where they pray for good health and wealth. Some celebrate by giving charity to poor people and partying in the evening. Some prefer to spend a meaningful whole day in an NGO. That’s what I have seen around me.

In China birthday parties are very important for old people. I mean they will get anything they want but there is a little difference from western culture. Old people must have noodles on birthday and it means that their live may be as long as noodles. lol

I never heard of the funny significant if the person can't blow out all the candles 😂🤣. I like 😍. In my culture most of the time give to the kids a present 🎁 on depends on the of the heroes of the famous movies. Wine or gifts cards for the adults some time a hand made present that they like. I love birthday 🎉 🎁🎉 parties because I like to see how everybody enjoy the cake 🎂 😋. Thanks for your time, great classes
