For me, it is the first time to know about gift registry, I think it's really helpful for young couples. In China, wedding gifts will be more direct. It usually will be gold or money. Young couples can use them to buy what they want.

gift registry was a new thing to know and its really amazing. thats y i always say you are a wonderful teacher we have on you tube. in our culture in pakistan mainly gifts are taken and given the same way as it happens in canada but with a little variations. in pakistan mostly people give gifts on weddings and birthdays. people try to give expensive gifts to each other like cloths jewellary and other stuff but in canada i have seen if a flower or bouquet is given to the wedding couple is considered very valuable thats s good thing and should be adopted by everyone.

In my country Mexico City we give gifts we things they would like or would need; we do not need a list ; we are not obligated to give a gift if someone give a gift to us, but we hug deeply with the heart. The gift is a sign that the other person has a kind feelings for us :)

Hi how are you? Thanks a lot. I really like your way of teaching. I am from India and we normally give gifts or money in a wedding. We don't have a gift registry system in India, but I like this western culture.

Hey Mark! Morocco belongs to the oriental culture but it does not mean that we deny all gifts, it depends on the context and the occasion, here are some examples: - Wedding: plates, blender, microwave ... etc. - Birthday: card - End of Ramadan (aïd al fitr): cakes, pies, cookies .... etc, and we visit our family. - feast of sacrifice (Eid al Adha): we visit our family. Take care!

Ur totally right Mark i belong to eastern culture, but i wanna just to clarify the purpose why to deny gifts first of all that doesn't excist unless if there is no casual or too close relationship ex betwen family members no way to reject any present And we deny it sometimes just as way of showing that we arn't greedy or materialist it's ok to come even without gift and i will be hospitable too as if i got ur gift but not as impolitness Hoping u get me!!

Gift registry is a good idea as it saves people the hard question of what to buy. In China we just give money as present. We put a few hundred or a few thousand worth of banknotes in a red envelope and give it to the newlyweds (or their parents). It's tricky because if you give too little, they may not be happy. In my country most people are not excited about being invited to friends' or colleagues' weddings, because normally you can't refuse to go even if you don't know that person very well, and when you attend the wedding, you have to give the money, it's somewhat like extortion. Some people receive 5 wedding invitations in a month, they'll just go broke. I don't know if you can understand the situation here.

Yeah ,I think the idea of gift registry is cool. In China you must bring something with you for any occasion say a birthday party or something like that. For weddings or funerals, people usually give a red envelope with several hundred Chinese RMB inside. You register your gift at the gift table and you will be given the same gift on the same occassion. But nowadays people don't need to attend the ceremony, and they can send money through Wechat----a payment tool popular in China.

OK! We usually give gifts in Iraq in special time like wedding, birthday, born the new baby, make treatment in hospital, mother's day, Eid fitr, Eid adha, birthday , etc . The gift different from person to another and depend on the relationship between that person to me , either depend on what this person give me in my special day like the lend and l should usually give the best and sometimes the equal with a card and thanks.

Thank you for this video. I am from India, and could not agree with you that you have to buy a return gift when someone gifts you something. It is your wish if you want to buy a return gift, but no one is offended if you don't give! Also, sometimes people mention on their marriage or birthday invitation cards that they don't want any gift. This is to show others that gift is not relevant, but their presence is more important. There is no hard and fast rules for gifting in our culture like you mentioned. We are far more flexible in this regard I guess.

Wow! Gift registry! If I had influence in my society, I would implement this tradition. You know my wife got a lot gift at our wedding but the gifts aren't still useful today. It is a waste of friends and relatives money and we have to keep maintaining them. We have to clean them every Diwali.
