Birthplace of Country Music Museum - Bristol TN-VA

#countrymusicmuseum #bristoltn #countrymusictours The Birthplace of Country Music Museum located in Bristol TN-VA was simply an amazing stop on our recent RV adventure. Stopping for just a few days, I visited the museum after hearing so much that this was simply a jewel of American music history.
Beyond the Appalachian mountains and hills, little was know about this "hill music" prior to 1927. In that year and for what will forever been known as the Bristol Sessions, Ralph Peer, a producer for the Victor Talking Machine Company, recorded local talent for 10 days. A new popular music was born and forever, Country Music would be a part of our culture.
The museum offers both displays and well produced videos about the sessions and how this music has continued to impact artists through today. Interactive venues exist to listen to original recordings to modern versions of these country classics.
A great value and amazing experience you should consider if you are traveling through the Bristol area.

My family was associated with the Carter family and actually traveled with them a few times from Hiltons, VA to Bristol to do some recordings with them.

My parents were born and raised in Bristol. My Mom is from the Virginia side and my Dad is from the Tennessee side.

I too was born on the VA side. Mom was from Bristol and Dad from Abingdon. Hope you've had a chance to go back. The country side is so pretty.

Beautiful area... We live in Asheville, Bristol is a little more real than Asheville and more rolling hills than mountains... Very similar to the rolling hills of the upstate.

Shadrack is basic and caters more to the racing crowd. Lower cost off season with passport America. There's a nice KOA on I85 just a few between Bristol and Kingsport. There was a mention of Ashville. If you have plans to go there, check out Mama Gertie's, our favorite.

What a great place. My wife and I stayed in apalachia on a week long motorcycle trip and we visited TBPCM (my wife is a closet country girl) anyway, the place was fantastic. We followed that up with the Apalachia County Fair. If you go about an HR north you can visit The Carter Family Fold for some live music and some of the best country hospitality anywhere by the friends and relatives of June Carter Cash (Jonny Cash's wife). Can't wait to go back. For you guys who ride, the area caters to bike people with a bunch of mapped rides through some of the most beautiful roads in the country.
