Elvis mother was happiest here instead of Graceland. She liked neighbors and a country life she lead a simple life and she missed it.

As a longtime Tupelo native, I trust you were treated well by the city. We lived a few doors down from Janelle McComb, a true Southern lady and a longtime Presley family friend. Sometimes openly, sometimes covertly, he would pop down from Memphis and visit her. He was always ready with a quick smile and wave, but we never hounded him, never felt like we needed to, he was one of us, so it seemed like he was visiting all of us, and I guess we simply & selfishly thought he would live forever. After all I’ve learned since his death, I’m glad we didn’t gawk & crowd & chase. When we’d see him with Mrs. McComb, I’m glad we treated him like a local boy who did good; called out his name, saw him turn & look, threw up a wave and a smile, & received one in return.

Yes, many times. Now, I have read where some state his local visits stopped by 1972 (he had sold his MS ranch, the birthplace opened as a tourists site, his increasing reclusiveness, etc.). However, I do know he did visit after 1972, he was just a bit more careful. I am not sure of the year he last visited Tupelo. @@levinolan636
